Why I'm voting Conservative

Firstly, let me say, it pains me to admit this because I’m not a Tory. I’ve always looked upon myself as a slightly left of centre, live and let live, community based, floating voter. But the more I look at this election campaign, the more I’ve realised that, to me, this is a one issue election. Women’s rights.
Starmer has been asked countless times about women’s private spaces, on radio and on TV. Each time he’s done everything he can to avoid answering the question. In any one of these interviews, he could have made his position clear, particularly on that phone in last week where the caller Jane said she was sick of the twaddle that comes out of his mouth.
Now he’s being quoted in the Telegraph as having said that biological males should not use women’s public toilets. This is a typical move by a politician. Leave it until the last minute, so he can’t be quizzed on what he actually means and then twist and deny it afterwards. I don’t trust him.
I don’t want to vote Conservative. After Partygate and the chaos caused by that idiot Liz Truss, they need a good kicking. But they’re the only party that have consistently come down on the side of women. If Labour get in and shift the gender landscape, the changes they make could be irreparable.
In the Victorian era, they didn’t build public toilets for women. It was a way of keeping women chained to the home. This is the direction we’re heading in if we don’t stand up and put a stop to it. And I don’t want to look back on this in years to come and realise I could have voted against this shift, but I let my political views get in the way.

Well that's total waste of time.

Yes it is. But voting Tory is worse than a waste of time.

Oh ffs.

I'm voting Green.

My candidate, in all the election materials dealings I've had with her, has never once mentioned gender. Not once. It is ALL about fair pay, the environment, decent housing, promoting local interests, the not insignificant matter of IMMEDIATE ceasefire in the Middle East, and getting rid of the Labour-led corruption and stagnation that has blighted my community for decades.

Not a single word has been spent on inter-gender feuding. Nor from the LibDems come to think of it. The greens and yellows are not suddenly going to grab power and start forcing all women to embrace crazy unwanted ideologies.

And even if they did, can you not tell them to STFU consistently and repeatedly? I certainly will.

This election is about breaking down the established corrupted power systems so they never again can return.

The reason they arent mentioning it is because they know how deeply unpopular the issue is. The GP is being sued in four different cases on this very issue by GP members who have been hounded out for supporting womens rights. Their silence is the frightening bit. As to Lib Dem they are even more committed and took £1.4 million from Puberty blocker developers.
As to telling them to STFU, its clear you have no understanding of whats going on on this subject, but as an ex Green I can assure you that they are up to their neck in internal problems on this issue.
As to a ceasefire and 'This election is about breaking down the established corrupted power systems so they never again can return.' that is just painfully naive.

Government is about many issues not just one. the conservative party partied and vomited up the wall while people were dying of COVid so wouldn't be my choice. This one issue can be campaigned on after the election

No, the right of women & children to safety, dignity and privacy should not and will not wait until after the election. We are not prepared to be an afterthought. Not now, not ever. Labour will continue to lose women’s like me, my family & my friends who do care about safeguarding & fairness.

For me the two most startling things I have learnt about all the left leaning parties (I include the SNP, greens and LibDems as well as Labour in that category) are:

  1. the level of intolerance and groupthink in all of them. No dissenting voices are tolerated.
  2. the inability to hear women’s voices, how little our opinions are considered, how little we seem to matter and how much we are actually despised by so many men.

I’m generally a left of centre floating voter, not very tribal, have voted for all the parties mentioned above depending on candidate and policies at one time or another. In this election I will vote Tory because I feel they have genuinely listened to women and thought about what we have been saying.

I’m in a similar position in a Tory seat the LibDems are targeting. I’m voting Tory tactically in an attempt to reduce the chance of a LibDem MP. Plus my local Tory candidate is female who understands this is an important issue to women and is broadly GC* and LibDem candidate is a smug male who is impossible to contact directly to ask the question but his canvassers keep avoiding answering the question when it’s put to them on the doorstep.

*I get the impression the Tory candidate had not been that aware of the strength of feeling before canvassing and has had to get up to speed on the concerns fairly quickly.

Last election I spoilt my vote, one before I voted Labour.

I refuse to vote for a party that has said they don’t want my vote

Omlettes · 02/07/2024 20:35

Of the parties that are antithetical to women, and lets face it, its all of them,
the worst ironically, seems to be the Lib Dems.
They are utterly sank in tra, more even than the GP if possible.
And the responses from Party HQ on this issue are the most patronising, offensive and intentionally obtuse.
But then they did take large sums from PB manufacturers.

orchardgirl4 · 02/07/2024 20:33

Keep in mind there will be plenty of interference on this platform and other social media platforms. Suggestions to spoil your vote is harmful and achieves nothing. The older generations know the value of their votes and will not be spoiling their votes. Read the manifestos, look at the past 14 years, and history beyond that. Vote with heart or tactically, but do vote, do your part.

Great idea. At least when you are homeless with no healthcare, the rubbish is piling up in the streets and your children are in classes of 50 being looked after by someone with no training you can proudly say you don’t have to sit in a cubicle next to someone you don’t like. Fantastic.

Why belittle people who disagree with you in this way?

Corinthiana · 02/07/2024 20:30

Still a waste of time. imo.

Omlettes · 02/07/2024 20:30

Corinthiana · 02/07/2024 19:46

They're not "counted as a protest vote", they're examined in case they actually count as a vote.
They achieve nothing.

To quote, because I cant be bothered to rewrite again.

"They count them and report the total at the and, alongside the totals for each candidate. The results will be read out in the form
“Candidate A, X votes. Candidate B, Y votes. etc… W spoiled ballots and Z blank ballots”.
Spoiling your ballot therefore makes an effective protest vote in the UK–– arguably much more effective than simply not voting at all.

It is however important to note that a ballot is only considered ‘spoiled’ if it has been marked deliberately but in such a way that poll workers can not discern the voter’s preferred candidate,
the voter has attempted to vote for more than one candidate, or
the voter has used a mark which allows them to be identified."
See the link I supplied in my previous post.

Under the conservatives violence against women has increased
Maternity care has gone to sh*t
Research into women's illnesses remains dramatically underfunded
House prices have risen that much that women no longer gave a choice about working full time or taking time off to bring up their children.
I don't think the torys have done that much for women during their time in power 🤔.

And given the actual global economic reality would Labour have done any better.

They never reversed the right to buy which created the housing problem when they had the chance.

Blair created the nightmare of endless debt for university students, and as said up thread, the debt crisis for the NHS and Education.

And they are keeping the 2 child limit.

Out of interest is there any actual statement in their manifesto that says how they will benefit women.

Violence against women isn't created by Governments but by society that is now addicted to porn, an incel dominated social media, and the fact that families are still producing boys who grow up to be violent men.

Just think if families stopped doing that we wouldn't need as many police, we wouldn't need as many refuges, we wouldn't need as many court dates.

Maybe we could revive the only sensible thing Golda Meir ever said: we need a curfew for men.

And please not NAM.

The violence we experience is the problem created by the sex class men.

I will be voting for Conservative too. I live in Wales and the only party who could have any influence over this issue here is Conservative.
David TC Davies has been absolutely fantastic on this issue since 2017.

The Tories pushed for the Cass review and consulted on women’s health not so long ago.

I have other reasons to vote for them too - mainly that Labour have been an absolute shower of shyte in Wales. I used to be a Labour voter, but I don’t recognise them anymore.

@WishIMite because labour will make everything worse. Conservatives will be on the right track if they focus on spending & funding better.

Really???? They have had 14 years and done what???? Absolutely everything is in decline!!

It's going to take Labour a long time to fix all the shit the Tories have left behind!

And its taking us all a long time, with terrible damage to the NHS and Education because through PPP Labour has left these services paying off more in interest on loans than they can afford. Not unlike many developing countries who can never get the growth they need because they are paying the interest on loans from so called "first" world countries.

Iseeyoupekingduck · 02/07/2024 20:05

SolitaryBee · 02/07/2024 20:00

But why do you think labour can make it all better? Why do you think the Tories don’t equally care about those things? We have all those problems and more in Scotland with a worse performing education system and NHS under the left wing Sturgeon who had arguably a bigger budget to play with per person under the Barnett formula.

LifeofBrienne · 02/07/2024 20:03

The Tory Party is no friend to any woman who is disabled. Or has children with SEN. Or gets attacked and would like the case to go to trial within a reasonable period, rather than waiting for two years because of court backlogs. Or needs timely medical treatment. Or is working but has to rely on food banks. Or is a young woman who’s grown up in care and ends up homeless because of lack of support.
Austerity has disproportionately fucked women over and the Tories should own it.

No one thinks Labour will 'make it all better'. It's taken 14 years of asset stripping to get to where we are. While the economy is now dead (in part due to Brexit).

But why on earth would you want the asset stripping to continue?

So event though the whole country has been screwed, people are having to sit on the floor in a&e, mental health is in crisis and there's no staff or beds, teaching is in crisis because they don't have the funding or teachers, people can't get a dentist, the price of utility bills is daft, the price of food is stupid, and so much more but yet you will vote for that shower of shit to ruin the country even more because you have a bee in your bloody bonnet, country has gone mad!!!

Well that's total waste of time.

For all Kemi Badenoch has done in recent times, she's not the Tory party, she's just one woman. She's only being listened to now because they've realised this issue is a vote winner.

I don't blame people for not trusting Starmer but I do blame people for trusting anything that comes out of Sunak's mouth. Or most of the Tories tbh.

I personally think the only option is to spoil your vote. If you've clearly intentionally spoiled it they have to count it and if enough of us did so they may take notice.

It's 100% not a waste of time
