Its only a short part at the start of this section - but as so many threads have now shown, Labour clearly doesn't not have an agreed position on supporting women's sex based rights.

Angela Rayner says she won’t be cowed by JK Rowling when it comes to her views on gender reforms

Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner has told this programme she won't be cowed by JK Rowling when it comes to her views on gender reforms. The Harry Potter author - who lives in Edinburgh - has accused Labour of abandoning women who want single-sex sp...

^"It really is impossible for Labour to say they will protect women's sex based rights.

I suppose at least you can say is that Angela Raynot isn't prepared to lie. Just side step and hope we wont notice."^

Their LGBT advisor is Iain Anderson. Labour HQ have several MPs who've privately said they're GC to other Labour women, one notable is the Shadow Minister for Education who as we know as said that a man with a GRC can use female spaces.

The side-stepping is genius Stonewall training.

Floisme · 30/06/2024 22:19

I have to admit, at the time, I genuinely was grateful, or at least relieved. Imagine if either Rebecca Long Bailey or Lisa Nandy had won....

IwantToRetire · 30/06/2024 20:59

Starmer was the only candidate from the 3 'finalists' who didn't sign it - he signed an alternative one, stating that 'TWAW' but that didn't call gc women's groups 'hate groups' or call for their expulsion.

I suppose he thinks we women should be grateful for the fact he is able to sit boths sides of the fence.

Lets hope he doesn't get a splinter.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that pledge dates from the Labour leadership election. If I remember correctly, Starmer was the only candidate from the 3 'finalists' who didn't sign it - he signed an alternative one, stating that 'TWAW' but that didn't call gc women's groups 'hate groups' or call for their expulsion.

(This is from memory but there were threads about it at the time so it should still be on record.)

IwantToRetire · 30/06/2024 20:34

I've managed to work this our for myself.

It is from 13 February 2020.

So if:

Rebecca Long-Bailey, Salford and Eccles
Angela Rayner, Ashton-under-Lyne
Lisa Nandy, Wigan
Karl Turner, East Hull
Nadia Whittome, Nottingham East
Dawn Butler, Brent Central
Emily Thornberry, Islington South and Finsbury
Alex Sobel, Leeds North West
Zarah Sultana, Coventry South
Clive Lewis, Norwich South
Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, Tooting

all still stand by this, it really is impossible for Labour to say they will protect women's sex based rights.

I suppose at least you can say is that Angela Raynot isn't prepared to lie. Just side step and hope we wont notice.

I think the last consultation was very heavily in favour of changes, but were mostly cut and pasted Stonewall responses. The government had to acknowledge the inpact of self id on the general population.

As you say, the only thing thats changed since the last consultation is more people vocal about the need of single sex spaces. And more press awareness.

The last consultant was with very little news coverage, but i dont think this will be the case now.

If he doesn't want to say if a man with gender should use the women's loo now, whats he going to do once hes elected? Refuse to speak about it?

Maybe he knows the numbers of the last consultation and is still confident the numbers are in his favour? But if it is established that men can use womens facilities, i cant see anyone being happy to make the process easier, and if its established that they can't, i cant see TRA being happy with Starmer for establishing that fact.

I cant see a scenario whete it ends well for him.

Calling WPUK and the LGB Alliance hate groups was just one of 12 pledges in Labour's trans manifesto (which is interestingly not being mentioned in MSM).
A couple of the other pledges are worse, one being that Labour will expel gender critical women.
Angela Rayner signed this along with all the usual traitors such as Dawn Butler, Lisa Nandy. She is refusing to back down on this.

Any woman who thinks she's got a chance in hell of voting Labour and then changing things from within is bewildering stupid. Rayner will expel you.

Here's the manifesto which also lists the signatories.

Is this recent of from a while ago.

Not that it makes it better either way, but if this is recent and has been signed by former Labour MPs while Starmer is mouthing platitudes, it is outright two faced hypocrasy.

Ive not seen anything directly from labour to indicate that they will be a consultation.

Im assuming that they have to demonstrate that they have thought about all stakeholders, but i dont know if that has to take to take the form of a consultation.

Stamer said in an interview very recently, I can't remember which one.

He was asked about changing the GRA and said we're going to.... and then inserted we will start a consultation on changing the GRA and his usual.. what did Jane call it? Usual twaddle.

I remember it because it was at the same time as the latest polling was published saying support had plummeted and I posted here saying he's going to get a surprise as he's going in the opposite direction to public opinion.

They will create another massive shit show with that. He will flounder around because everyone Labour leadership listen to has told him it's just toxic bigots.

He's just going to enrage the activists even further by over promising and under delivering.

Kringe. They will be awful. They are going to be arguing with everyone on every news programme over it for the next year. He's made himself a left on left culture war!

UltraLineHolder · 30/06/2024 18:05

@illinivich if any law or Bill is changed doesn't a consultation have to happen?
Although with a huge majority of Labour in the house they could veto that, maybe? I don't know how these things work in practice.

@MidCleg That pledge reads like a complete takeover of the Labour Party so that no other view is possible. Why anyone would sign it is beyond me. (I saw it on the other thread; thanks for raising it.)

I wish I'd attended a local hustings and had asked a question about it.

I would love to see this raised with a candidate over the next few days. Are there any women here who may be interested in writing to the usual suspects? GB news? LBC? Talk Radio?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/06/2024 14:36

Will there be a consultation?

Hepwo · 30/06/2024 14:32

All the trans organisations must be laughing their heads off.

Keir and Ange, which I might shorten to Kringe, are their useful puppets. Neither have the mental bandwidth to figure out how they are being played.

Kringe have no access to any information about this other than from trans rights organisations and just don't know that they don't have public support on this.

Once they start another public consultation they will be tested constantly by the media and will be a pair of flailing goldfish, their mouths opening and closing like the clueless idiots they are.

Looking forward to it actually.

LunaNorth · 30/06/2024 14:25

I’m getting so fucking sick of this. Rayner clearly thinks that she’s on the side of the cool kids. That’s pretty much what all this bullshit boils down to.

Even if it were true that trans women who have transitioned are women, what about trans women who haven't? What about trans women who are fully intact unaltered men who call themselves women? Angela knows these people exist; she knows most trans women are this type of person. She's a disingenuous liar.

They will be selling them lady tickets for a fiver.

WinterTrees · 28/06/2024 23:12

Angela Rayner says that 'vulnerable women are very scared by some of the language that is being used.'

Bollocks to that. I'm scared by the reality of men being able to access spaces provided for women for reasons of safety and dignity, and not being able to challenge that.

Very revealing isn't it. She won't acknowledge the fear caused by the actual incidents of men using every women's space in the country now. Only language.

She can't acknowledge the actual incidents, and policies that enable them, that are taking place daily.

She is simply telling us that it's the wrong language being used.

She is bloody awful, hypocritical and deceptive. She thinks we are all liars, which of course the trans rights groups have told her exactly that.

Angela, you are all about the men. You repeat their gaslighting and make a fool of yourself.

'Labour Campaign for Trans Rights: Pledges

  1. Accept the material reality that trans people are oppressed and discriminated against in British society, facing a rising risk of hate crime, and difficulty accessing public services, healthcare, housing and employment.
  1. Believe that trans liberation must be an objective of the Labour Party, and that transphobia is antithetical to our collective aims.
  1. Commit to respecting trans people as their self-declared gender, and to ensure that the Labour Party is an inclusive environment for trans people.
  1. Accept that trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary people are non-binary.
  1. Accept that there is no material conflict between trans rights and women’s rights, and that all trans women are subject to misogyny and patriarchal oppression.
  1. Listen to trans comrades on issues of transphobia and transmisogyny, allowing trans people to lead the way on our own liberation.
  1. Support the work of trans members and organisers within the Labour movement, including supporting motions on a local, regional and national level which are presented for the furthering of trans liberation.
  1. Oppose transphobic motions which run contrary to our own party equalities policy, and support the NEC striking down such motions on this basis.
  1. Organise and fight against transphobic organisations such as Woman’s Place UK, LGB Alliance and other trans-exclusionist hate groups.
  1. Support the expulsion from the Labour Party of those who express bigoted, transphobic views.

11.Support reform of the Gender Recognition Act to improve transgender rights, as well as supporting policies which would improve trans people’s access to necessary healthcare, housing, and employment.

  1. Organise against and oppose any further transphobic policy from our own party or any other.'

The labour lack of support for women is why I won’t vote labour. And I’m left wing. But this has become a single issue on which I can’t budge.

That, but also the fucking lying.

It's clear they've done deals with Stonewall etc.

They made some grand promises to women 'we'll halve VAWG!' (Great, fucking how?!)

... and meanwhile, all the policy promises have been clear changes to the GRA etc, to suit Stonewall and serve the gender orthodoxy.

Yet they try to present it as even handedness. It's not. It's bollocks. I was almost taken in for a short while, before people started asking questions and they all started malfunctioning and running away.

They don't care about women, they don't give a fuck. I'm so angry with them. As OP says upthread, what is worse is we can fully expect laws that will favour the chosen few who mouth the correct words ,while women who object will be criminalised as 'hate groups'.

A political party where members are allowed to disagree. It will never catch on.

UtopiaPlanitia · 30/06/2024 00:34

I think Rayner's personality is of the type that would rather never apologise for anything - she seems, by nature, unable to back down from any position she holds unless it suits her to do so.

Starmer seems to be of that type too; I get the strong impression he'd rather chop his own leg off than publicly apologise to Rosie Duffield.

In Ireland, the word for people like this is 'thran'.

Streeting, on the other hand, seems to have the knack for saying he's changed his mind on issues or apologising for past behaviour. I'm not sure I 100% trust him not to be a smooth operator in doing so but he's more gracious than the other two.
