Oh no,people were untoward about a rapist.

ArabellaScott · 13/08/2024 15:05

Fuck him, he can fuck off forever.

Catsmere · 06/08/2024 22:37

What's all this "knowing the whole story" thing Tip's on about? Given Van de Velde is a convicted child rapist, it makes Tip sound like a nonce defending another nonce.

Each country can have two teams, and the Netherlands team left in the competition is not the one with this chap in it.

Good to know, thanks - very glad he's out, would have been horrendous for his victim had he won a medal.

They lost in the round of 16.

I thought they were still in and playing Germany this afternoon?

I wonder if the team is always the same two players though, or if they swap them in and out like they can do in some of the team swimming events?? Much as I'd like to think the b***d is gone (and never should have been there to start with). 😡

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 06/08/2024 11:34

Too bad he's not buggering off to jail.

fedupandstuck · 06/08/2024 11:27

Thank goodness for that. Hope he's buggered off back to the Netherlands by now.

Probably decided it is not fair on him after the publicity about the boxes. It is unlikely to be about the child he raped.

They lost in the round of 16.

Well, the nonce appears to be out of the Olympics. There is a Dutch team through to the men's quarterfinals, but it does not include him.

At least his Wikipedia page is this
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/StevenvandeVelde

He was moved to serve his sentence in the Netherlands where the laws are different so he was out after a year. Fucking hell, Netherlands. You arses.
The Olympics can fuck off as far as I’m concerned.

'I know 12-year-olds who are sassy and act like they're 16-year-old girls.'

She then added: 'It [the rape] actually sounds like an inappropriate, very inappropriate, romance thing.'

She also claimed the Olympian had 'turned his life around' since the conviction and believed calling him a child rapist was 'a bit strong' and not language she would use to describe him.

Ms Woolf added: 'If I was judged for everything I did between the age of 12 and 19, I'd probably be in prison or something serious.'

What on earth is wrong with that woman?

And why was she asked to comment? What qualifies her to do so?

Exactly. The boos are well deserved. Incredible anyone is defending this. We may as well have Huw Edwards back on the evening news. 😡

Good christ.

re “Ms Woolf added: 'If I was judged for everything I did between the age of 12 and 19, I'd probably be in prison or something serious.'”

Idiotic

“12 - 19” - being a 12 year old groomed child is the opposite of being a 19 year old child rapist. So why would she be in ‘prison
or something serious’ for something she’d done age 12?

Of all the mistakes most young people make, fairly rarely is it rape of a child. It does happens though. Watch out for leaving a child alone among teenage boys - but is she condoning it?

This was premeditated rape by a man 7 years older than the 12 year old child they raped.

Dear God. I hope she doesn’t have a daughter. The extent to which Emma doesn’t understand the issue here is quite staggering.

I hope she doesn't have a son! We have no hope if boys are being raised by parents with such appalling attitudes.

Its also incredibly (deliberately) misleading. The wording almost implies he was sentenced "regardless of the fact she consented", thats not what it says but it is the impression it gives if you read it quickly.... It misses out the key detail that he got her drunk first in order to lower her boundaries. I mean, its sort of irrelevant anyway because she was twelve.
Under Dutch law by the way I think the age of consent is 16, but its only considered automatic rape is the child is under 12. But 12 is still minor. (It is... interesting that he talked to her online for two years right up to the point that it became a less serious crime under Dutch law to have sex...)

So yeah, it implies she gave consent and then talks about Van De Velde's age right after. It is sort of like "ahhh, a quirky technicality of English law." It is the sort of minimisation you see people do when its older children that are groomed (e.g. 15) but to see them try it with a 12 year old. Urgh.

@biscuitandcake
I was just reading a 2016 report about the court case and it said that he corresponded with her for several months before flying over to see her.

Where did you see it easy two years?
