While Rachel reeves says "we will protect women only spaces based on biological sex”

https://twitter.com/fairplaywomen/status/1805609865873604808

Labour haven't a clue what their own policy is.

And protecting spaces based on biology can just mean any service can decide for themselves whether to admit men.

There has to be more than just leaving it up to the discretion of the provider.

I didn't realise that Tennent once played a TW (Davina in Rab C Nesbitt). Do wonder how that would go down today?

Apparently he's since said that he wouldn't do it nowadays.

You are absolutely right. He gives me the creeps. Always has. He always seemed to be performing 'what a nice guy I am'.

This is judgemental but when I saw his wife in that lockdown show they did, I thought, I've got the measure of you: child-faced little blonde, 13 years his junior, way less successful but from good acting aristocracy. He's off filming all over the place while she wrangles their five kids. I've met a few men like him before, and they all play nice but underneath they are utterly self-serving, so they require women to be biddable and pliant.

She does also have a career as a producer. I'm only aware of that because her film played at an arts festival in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Local high school kids were given free tickets to it.

Later, DT did a paid Q&E session. (I attended that - could not do the film as well: I was my husband's carer at the time. I think they both did a Q&A after the film.)

He was certainly lovely to the local kids. Allowed them to take selfies, etc. in between the film and his solo Q&A.

At one point, he answered "Oh, I don't know!" to a question. A wifie from Cowdenbeath called out: "You don't know very much, do you!"

Embarrassed silence in the auditorium.

I'm very disappointed in his recent comments. He seems to think that his non-gender conforming wee boy is somehow in danger.

His comments about Badenoch were disgraceful.

CantDealwithChristmas · 26/06/2024 13:19

Crazy to me that a right wing incompetant like Rishi Sunak will still stand up for an MP of his who's under attack for being a woman, whereas Kier Starmer the supposed humanist champion wouldn't stand up for Rosie Duffield for the same

Topsy turvy world we live in

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 26/06/2024 13:15

He's a misogynist and tries to cloak that under a "liberal", "woke" agenda.

WearyAuldWumman · 26/06/2024 13:12

Beenthereagainandagain · 25/06/2024 14:55

does anyone else think there could be quite a sinister underlying message read into this by some… DT says people need to “wake up and” (do something so that) “kemi badenoch doesn’t exist anymore”
he’s linking the necessity of “waking up” which enables KB’s demise in a disturbing way.

on another note, has he really got a 9 yo child that is trans/itioning? That’s so young and so sad. Can the kid not just go and play outside on roller skates for a couple of years like we did back in the day? Sounds like a lot more fun than trying to make yourself literally into a round peg which will never fit into the square hole of your biological reality.

I believe his little boy identifies as non-binary.

Brainworm · 26/06/2024 13:12

Shelagh Fogarty is going to be discussing this on LBC at 3pm

https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/06/25/david-tennants-rant-about-kemi-badenoch-was-deeply-revealing/

'There was a gathering in London last Friday at which one of the speakers openly wished for the disappearance of Britain’s most prominent black female politician. I just want her to ‘shut up’, he said. And the audience whooped and cheered. Like a baying mob, only more crisply dressed, they rattled their champagne glasses in pompous approval of this dream that a pesky woman in public life would fuck off into oblivion. What sort of hellish meeting was this? A gathering of Seventies-style dinosaurs who learnt their sexual politics from Benny Hill, perhaps? A mob of iffy blokes who have a problem with strong black women, maybe? Actually, it was the British LGBT Awards.'

David Tennant’s rant about Kemi Badenoch was deeply revealing

A strong black woman who defends women’s sex-based rights? She’s every wokeist’s worst nightmare.

Butler is an imbecile.

Careful now, she'll go running to the police to report Mumsnet again😂

Tears and tantrums from Dawn when a forum discussed a ridiculous statement she put out, but she's fine with a man hoping a woman stops existing...

Pathetic hypocrites.

LizzieSiddal · 26/06/2024 12:58

There’s a BBC debate tonight isn’t there. I’m praying someone asks Starmer about this.

He will just use his usual tactic of deflection and not giving a straight answer because he’s too afraid to voice his true opinion this close to an election.

Hedgeoffressian · 26/06/2024 13:03

People like David Tenant are one of the reasons I would never ever vote for Labour

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 26/06/2024 13:02

I think now that Rishi Sunak has become involved this is going to become a much bigger story. Serves DT right. I used to like him in DW and GO but started thinking he was a bit of a prick after Staged (and I can't stand Georgia Moffat). Why he actually thought getting involved in all this was a good plan, I have no idea, I guess he isn't as clever as he thinks he is.

ExpressCheckout · 26/06/2024 13:01

Never thought I'd agree with Kemi B about anything, but there you go 😂

I don't understand what makes actors so bloody well qualified to comment

Same thing that makes authors qualified to comment, I suppose. Everyone is entitled to form an opinion.

UpThePankhurst · 26/06/2024 12:58

I'm wondering how respectful Rishi Sunak plans to be to women on the MN Webchat, and if it's going to dawn on him from the questions put forward on the thread how angry, disillusioned and fed up women voters are with all parties. When you look at the quality and depth of political discussion all over the site, and then look at the questions put forward? There's a major mismatch.

However you'd have to know MN and MNetters to realise why.

Apologies if this has already been posted but Rishi has tweeted-
“Freedom of speech is the most powerful feature of our democracy.
If you’re calling for women to shut up and wishing they didn’t exist, you are the problem.”

Rishi Sunak standing up for Kemi B's right to speak. Note how Starmer is with Rosie Duffield. Labour and radical lefties are not respectful to women.

WickedSerious · 26/06/2024 12:50

Butler is an imbecile.

Slothtoes · 26/06/2024 12:49

Good on Rishi sticking up for her. Horrible to see Dawn Butler condemn other women MPs. I have less than no time for Kemi Badenoch but David Tennant can fuck off with his aggressive language. Who does he think he is? Why do so many posh actors think they have anything important to say to the public about politics?

Reported in the Telegraph

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/26/rishi-sunak-kemi-badenoch-david-tennant-trans-row/

https://archive.ph/IeLTh a blow against people building stonewalls to stop women speaking

Thelnebriati · 26/06/2024 12:44

So many people defending him; it is impossible to tell if hurty words are harmful or not. You can only go by whether or not the person speaking them are on your side.

I’m glad to hear Liz Kendall has said on Times Radio that she would never tell anyone to shut up and we need to have these conversations without all the
shouting. https://x.com/TimesRadio/status/1805880496301228433

I’m glad DT has said what he has said, the timing is perfect for maximum media attention and sunlight as to the misogyny of TRAS.

Labour haven't a clue what their own policy is.

There does seem to be confusion,

She may mean the concession of rape crisis centres and women’s refuges, though some have been infiltrated by men in the form of transwomen so far, and they have said hospitals ( they do not know about Annex B).
