David Tennant wants Kemi to shut up about the findings of the Cass Review which stated there were concerns in the Tavistock about the motivations and influence of parents on children and the lack of proper safeguarding by HCPs which was potentially causing them to transition unnecessarily due to trauma, family breakup, sexual abuse, homophobic parents, sexist parents or autism.

David Tennant just happens to be a parent to a child who is currently identifying as trans. This may or may not be relevant to why he wants Kemi to shut up.

I've started to wonder, given that we know the impact of early childhood trauma on a sense of self, how many parents just don't want to look too hard in the mirror when their children express distress.

No, I'm not blaming all parents.

Let's remind ourselves what it is that Tennant, Butler, and many others, want Kemi Badenoch to " shut up" about:

This was in the Australian senate yesterday

It’s madness isn’t it

SPEECH: Dangerous testosterone drugs being prescribed to thousands of Australian girls

How will history look back on young girls suffering irreversible damage because they were prescribed testosterone by a doctor who claimed they had a testicul...

Whereas he gave a spine-chillingly convincing performance as the unbeliever whose self-interest draws him deeper and deeper into Nazism and the betrayal of his greatest friend.

He did! Ironic, isn't it?

CorruptedCauldron · 27/06/2024 11:29

He thinks he’s a white knight, galloping in to defend the honour of queer people, an edgy, anti-establishment hero who is the voice for the oppressed and marginalised. However, there’s nothing heroic about what he’s doing. He’s not taking any personal risks or putting his neck on the line. He’s a privileged luvvie, a male, who will never be negatively affected by having to share male single-sex spaces. He’ll never see a transman take a Best Actor gong off him, or deny male athletes their place on the podium. He’ll never feel vulnerable if a transman is in a changing room or toilet with him. He will happily share his single-sex spaces because he has absolutely nothing to lose. And he’s so selfish and blinkered that he thinks women who object to sharing their single-sex spaces - for very good and valid reasons - are horrible bigots who should shut up and not exist.

I hope his child is okay. I can imagine it might be hard to change your mind about being non-binary or trans if your famous dad has been shouting it from the rooftops.

He’s very good at the creepy roles.

The mini series where he plays a family annihilator, murdering his wife and children and setting the house on fire as a cover up is particularly awful.

In the play he wasn't creepy. He was ordinary, vulnerable. Just a bit selfish and cowardly, no more than most of us. That was the point of the play and he did it very well.

What a contrast David Tennant's "allyship" makes with J K Rowling's. David Tennant wears a badge at events. J K Rowling deliberately put herself (and her team of legal experts) between gender critical women and the worst bits of the new "Hate Crime amd Public Order" Act in Scotland. Most people don't realise she took a real personal risk to protect Scottish women.

I do think Tennant's at least as good an actor as J.K.Rowling is a writer - she aces plot and character but her prose can be clunky and she's so successful nowadays her editors seem to be afraid to fix it. Whereas he gave a spine-chillingly convincing performance as the unbeliever whose self-interest draws him deeper and deeper into Nazism and the betrayal of his greatest friend.

Anwyay, I know who'd I rather have as my ally.

Yes - the one who was also whooping and screaming in the audience when Starmer spoke?

Yes that was something. It goes some way to understanding why we are where we are. A whooper will cut through to Starmer whereas he can ignore all the women speaking up.

I think maybe Tennant has misjudged the public reaction on this somewhat.

Though I suspect it won't make him rethink.

Those comments from the Guardian readers are wild. I think they've really driven away any of their more intelligent readers.

I think his mask slipped.

As a lefty at heart, what trans rights activism has revealed to me is just how misogynistic the left are, I didn't see it before, maybe a result of my own bias.

I don't understand the relevance that Tennant is 14 years older than his wife. This is fine, and not that rare either.

Bit of a tangent but I’ve noticed that current day older teens/young adults are a lot less tolerant of age gap relationships than previous generations.

Youtubers have had near-cancellations for 2 year age gaps (19-17) let alone 14.

37-23, whilst obvs both adults is deffo considered a bit off to a significant proportion of people (and doesn’t meet the traditional ‘no younger than half your age+ 7 sniff test!)

Tennant, who is 14 years older than his wife who he met on set whilst she was playing his daughter, thinks this act of virtue signalling makes him look inclusive and accepting

Yeuch.

I mean, he was supposed to be a Time Lord and 1000 years old or so, he certainly didn't look old enough for her to be his daughter.

I'm half regretting that eddie izzard didn't succeed in his bid to be a candidate. It would have given us all a real life example of the kind of man we are expected to accommodate.

Its easy for politicans to talk about the vulnerabilities of men with gender when the men they want to be in public toilets and changing rooms arent present. The realty isnt men who would be easily mistaken for women or who are particularly sympathetic to women.

One of the biggest shocks to me STILL is that I used to be an ardent Labour supporter. I could see misogyny of course - unions etc - but it is so blatant now and something to be seemingly proud of.

What the fuck happened to them?

The GRA. Once you have that you need to spend a lot of time shoring up a house of cards with threats and insult

Because it’s really poor legislation with bad outcomes for women and children

It’s easy to see, but invested groups get very angry / aggressive when people don’t believe in that falsehood

I don't think Butler is a deep thinker. She is entitled to her views on gender, of course, but if she'd been capable of even thinking a little bit about what she's saying, she'd have realised she's endorsing the idea that it's fine for a white man to tell a Black woman to shut up, and fine for him to publicly wish she'd stopped existing. This obviously makes it much harder for her in future to complain about sexism and racist comments directed towards her.

Agreed, she's not very bright.
