"So there we have it. Labour confirming a man with a GRC should use the women’s toilets. If elected they say they will make it even easier for men to get these ‘access all areas’ certificates. So much for their promise to protect single-sex spaces."
Fair Play For Women comment on Bridget Phillipson interview

Phillipson says men with a GRC should be in the women's toilets.

Safe Schools Alliance have commented on the Times Radio post:

"This is deeply disturbing from Phillipson of Labour.
The options here are that either she doesn’t understand the Equality Act (a Labour initiative) in which case she’s unfit to govern or she is correct that the Equality Act allows men into women’s single sex spaces (thus making them mixed sex & therefore not ‘safe’ for women & children) in which case it prevents effective #safeguarding & needs reviewing. Which is it? It is simply unacceptable for the shadow education secretary to have such an abysmal understanding of #safeguarding. We accept that there is widespread lack of understanding about what safeguarding actually is. Safeguarding is not about being kind, it is not about equality, it is not about inclusion, it is not about ensuring everyone is happy. It is about protecting the vulnerable & closing loopholes so that those who wish them harm do not have opportunities to so. Groups & individuals properly upholding safeguarding will never be popular - they will always be under attack by those that safeguards are aimed at thwarting & the many useful idiots believing their lies about why safeguarding should be abandoned. #RestoreSafeguarding "

So any man can walk into a doctor's surgery, talk about feeling like a woman for a bit, get a signature on a sheet of paper and then 'be' legally a woman — beard, male genitalia and all — and legally go into women's loos and changing rooms and call himself a lesbian in a Labour-run world.

I'm canvassing for Labour and this subject is coming up more frequently on the doorstep. There have been more people every day mentioning it. I had an HCP talk to me about the nurses who're launching a discrimination case yesterday and talking in a very frank way about how trans-mania (her words) has seized her health board and colleagues.

You should tell your candidate and the party leaders that.

I wonder whether they'll take any notice of you.

Shortshriftandlethal · 25/06/2024 09:53

It has always been clear that when Labour talk about "safe spaces" and about protecting women's single sex spaces they are thinking only of exceptional circumstances, such as refuges and prisons, not everyday facilities such as toilets or changing rooms.

Datun · 25/06/2024 09:49

And if a male teacher has a GRC??

is she really advocating that we teach a generation of children not to be able to identify men as men? And if they do, they're wrong, punished???

I'm getting the impression that these people are less ideologically driven, and more completely ignorant.

If they really don't think this is going to bite them on the arse, they're not thinking straight.

They are going to be inundated with the likes of Isla Bryson, everywhere.

Who the bloody hell do they think is going to be attracted to accessing vulnerable women and children, vulnerable and unconsenting.

Seriously. Have they not taken a look at the people who are advocating for this??

Underthinker · 25/06/2024 09:45

Yep this is what I thought Labour's position was, although it has been hard to drag out of them that by "single sex spaces" they never meant toilets or changing rooms.

Villagetoraiseachild · 25/06/2024 09:43

Not forgetting a whole generation of kids and their worried parents.

Smoog · 25/06/2024 09:42

As we always suspected, their pledges on single sex spaces are meaningless because they have redefined men with a GRC as women in all respects.

Villagetoraiseachild · 25/06/2024 09:42

She's very invested in her appearance, bless.
All well and good Bridget, don't begrudge you that, but please outsource that job and invest your Oxford degree into some actual critical thinking so that real women and girls not in the Westminster bubble don't have to suffer.

Datun · 25/06/2024 09:41

Infuriating.

Yet another misogynist who is only thinking about the men. These special men get to do this, that and at the other. We will focus on them, what they want, and what risk we think they represent, what they say, and the processes they need to go through to get what they want.

What about the fucking women??

She can't drag her eyes off the men and their problems long enough look at the women.

The women who are being used.

The women who are the resource, the tools, the validation method.

As we've said till we're blue in the fucking face, it's not about the space, luv. It's about the women in the space.

It's their presence that is critical.

A room is a room, there's nothing to it. It's only attractive if there's a bloody woman in it.

It's only the focus if the pretence 'it's for women' is kept up.

We are the goal.. Stop pretending otherwise.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 25/06/2024 09:37

How do you identify which men have a grc and which don't so its just open access to all men

When Men say they Have - you have to Believe Them.

WarriorN · 25/06/2024 09:39

It's not just toilets Bridget.

What about intimate care in send schools and settings?

Also she's implying that men with mental health issues should be castrated. Which is essentially what the whole "process" is.

AlisonDonut · 25/06/2024 09:34

No school child will have a GRC.

That will be the teachers.

So all good then Bridget. And this is all down to Debbie Hayton who wrote the guidelines allowing himself access to the female toilets.

Debbie Hayton Stans are everywhere these days.

Safeguarding nightmare

PronounssheRa · 25/06/2024 09:22

Chersfrozenface · 25/06/2024 09:16

So all men, then.

Because how is anyone going to check who has a GRC.

Yep.

And they are making the process to get a GRC easier.

What a mess Labour are making. You can not protect single sex spaces with their approach, it's entirely incompatible

InThePottingShed · 25/06/2024 09:18

WarriorN · 25/06/2024 09:16

Fucking hell Bridget; third spaces are not rocket science.

And jfc, you're living in cloud cuckoo land of you think the ‘processes’are going to be water tight.

There simply are no watertight 'processes'. Men in prison for rape have obtained a GRC. It's simply paperwork and a diagnosis of 'gender dysphoria' which is remarkably easy to get.

Going was hoping; I can't edit

Deeply disturbing given she's going to be education minister
