Feminists at Brighton Pride

Some good news for a Monday morning.

Feminists in Brighton have secured a place in the Brighton Pride parade to march for lesbian and bisexual visibility.

Excellent that same-sex attracted women can be proud and visible at Pride.

Allies are welcome to join too www.tickettailor.com/events/sisterssalon/1281981?

It's very ironic that the feminists in Brighton are the ones supporting trans identified females. The trans orgs completely wash their hands of anyone vulnerable or any trans man who still values single sex spaces (lots do). We are trans inclusive, just not male inclusive.

Anyone who looks at our organisation properly will see that we are the ones picking up the pieces when vulnerable, female sexual abuse survivors are turned away from women's services because they don't identify as women.

Pride felt the need to release a public statement on instagram claiming we don't support LGBTQ people. The hypocrisy is outrageous.

A lawyers letter seems appropriate, as thats slander.

Personally I think young females who have been sexually abused and subsequently identify as men are some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in society but nobody in the LGBTQ orgs seems to care about them.

Well, everyone still knows they’re women. Trans rights isn’t about them, it’s about enabling men

The technical expression is 'collateral damage'.

There have been some shocking statements. It’s clearly hard to see clearly when you’ve sold your souls and your head is up your own- or someone else’s- arse. Very vulgar I know, but some of the statements are ludicrous. People who genuinely seem to think trans people are the most marginalised, most victimised, most vulnerable people ever, dropping dead every time someone uses a pronoun in an upsetting manner.

Oh Sappho, I'm so sorry!

However perhaps this outrageous decision will shine a better light on what's going on. It may reinforce the doubts of some fence sitters.

💐 to you and your sisters.

UtilitarianNameChange · 05/07/2024 15:40

Aw, Sappho - I’m not a huggy person but that birthday analogy makes me wish I could give you an awkward arm pat.

Maybe the T Pride event will be overwhelmed by pro Palestine marchers and the birthday usurpers will be sidelined at their own celebration? 🥳

INeedAPensieve · 05/07/2024 14:08

That's a very good analogy OP and I'm so sorry this happened. It's the same attitude they have as well to the entirely reasonable suggestion to provide third spaces for public use. Stamping their feet and saying nope my way or high way. 💐

SapphosRock · 05/07/2024 13:58

Thanks.

Imagine it's your birthday. Then imagine someone decides to celebrate their birthday on your birthday, even though they have their own special birthday party planned another time that you're not invited to. And you say 'that's fine, we can share my birthday'. And you welcome them to your birthday party and share your gifts with them.

Then imagine that person who centres themselves on your birthday says that you can't come to your own birthday party. They say you are not allowed to celebrate your birthday at all. That you should only celebrate their birthday on your birthday and if you mention it's your birthday they feel unloved and unsafe and you are a hateful person.

That's what this feels like.

Such wretched people. They could focus on their own area in the march to celebrate but instead decide to censor you. They think every oppressed group is allowed to self organise with the exception of women.

It is pure spite. All the energy focused on silencing people they don’t like could be spent on helping vulnerable trans-identified people, of whom there are many in Brighton. There is effectively no sexual violence service that is safe and appropriate for transmen and other trans-identified females in the region. Of course they are completely silent on that matter and instead focus on attacking a group who support all females.

Keep up the good fight, I so hope this awful misogyny will become consigned to the past.

Omlettes · 03/07/2024 21:42

The meanspiritedness and obvious bad faith is so marked in stopping Sister Salon marching. All they do is steal or break other peoples things.

JanesLittleGirl · 03/07/2024 20:55

This is the only thread that you need to read to understand the loss of women being able to call themselves women.

lcakethereforeIam · 03/07/2024 20:44

Show them this when anyone claims it's 'both sides'.

ArabellaScott · 03/07/2024 18:29

Fucksake. The only glimmer of a silver lining is that they're getting a lot of grief on Instagram.

Wistfullythinking · 03/07/2024 18:23

So sorry to read this @SapphosRock

lcakethereforeIam · 03/07/2024 15:58

I'm so sorry. It could have been an opportunity for healing if only they'd stop thinking about themselves through the lens of their own self absorption.
Spicy straights are accepted. Actual lesbians and tm can do one, with a bigotry chaser.

sadly only too believable
and I see they seem to be linking Keir Starmer with section 28
I would hazard a guess that if he had any involvement at all he would have been on the marches protesting about section 28 along with myself and many other hateful TERFs

UtilitarianNameChange · 03/07/2024 15:23

Arseholes.

SapphosRock · 03/07/2024 15:20

Unfortunately, after complaints from anti-woman extremists, Pride has now rejected Sisters Salon. They have also published a defamatory statement linking Sisters Salon with hostility to trans people.

Response from Sisters Salon here:

Please support them if you're on social media.

Hi @TooBigForMyBoots and thank you!

@DexaVooveQhodu yes the banners will be pro-woman and pro-lesbian. We will be celebrating same-sex attraction and marching as a community group proud to support women (and trans identified females) in a single sex space.

There is nothing inflammatory or anti-trans about that and Price have rightfully accepted our booking.

Wonderful to hear you have trans-identified female members. They need feminism more than anyone and I’m sure a female only feminist space will be very beneficial regarding their distress. It is very brave for them to reach out and there just aren’t enough organisations who include them. So many ‘woman-only’ services include trans-identified males whilst excluding transmen and other trans-identified females. It’s a disgrace. Keep up the good work 💐

TicklishLemur · 29/06/2024 18:29

This is brilliant, though I am amazed you managed to get the pride team to agree to it!

LonginesPrime · 25/06/2024 13:34

This is really heartening, OP - well done and I hope it all goes well. Please do update us!

If this goes off without incident, I hope it might signal a way forward for other LGB groups too - obviously running alternative Pride events completely separately is a common (and sensible) solution, but standing up to Pride organisers like this and calling for recognition and legitimacy of GC lesbians is a really important step in showing the world that same-sex attraction is as valid as any other sexual orientation.
