The same JKR who puts her hand in her pocket to support women's charities.

And pays her taxes.

Yes. What a monster she is. 🙄

It's fascinating to see the blame deflected onto people who 'voted or campaigned wrongly' rather than even a smidge of self examination over why a party which was known to be further to the left of the general population as a whole, didn't connect with the electorate and why they didn't like the attitude of Momentum supporters.

Yes. It was all the fault of the Right Wing Press and no member of the general public came across one of these activists directly and was totally switched off by them...

Strangely, I'd argue it was the first 'twitter' election, so a lot of campaigning was done through social media rather than the mass media. That did cause a lot more of this direct exposure...

Yes it's madness. LOJ is the king of this behaviour. It's a feature not a bug.

I have planned to vote Labour, while holding my nose. But I am really hoping that at labour hq right now they are running around screaming, "fuck!!! We thought we could just brush this under the carpet but we can't now". Because like a pp, I don't think.Starmer believes this shit. He's just not bothered to properly spend the time thinking about what he does believe and how to articulate it. But maybe, now it's literally on the front page of The Times, spelled out in very simple.language.... he might be forced to come out firmly.

MPs like.Stella Creasy are, I believe, completely unable to actually change their minds or their statements. They are so busy being "allies" they have lost all rational thought. But I really really hope the rest of the party wakes up now. I think they thought the risk of being "anti trans" [sic] was greater than the risk of supporting women and this might be a big dose of cold water.

Or they will continue to pretend its not happening and I might actually have to vote for someone else and I just don't see how that is helpful to the country as a whole.

back to the fabulous JKR who is helping to ensure that when Labour get in their feet will be held to the fire on this because the opposition parties certainly won’t (lib dems /greens/snp - captured and tories in their own self inflicted melt down )

Lots of people called for Corbyn to be removed.

Not because they were centrist but because they didn't like the aggressive antisocial and anti-Semitism from the left of the party.

Are you saying there wasn't an antisemitism problem?

Tilts head

No, but it was weaponized by the right of the party, particularly by Luke Akehurst, and it still is. Look up Luke Akehurst and his creepy misogynist mate Luke Stanger.

Anyone who wants labour to win would give over on the Corbyn chat.

On the other hand, the best way to lose labour votes is to talk up the guy, who is actually standing against labour!

The Telegraph have reported on JKR's statement

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/21/keir-starmer-accused-misogyny-change-gender-views/

https://archive.ph/88VL2 see you through the red haze wall

There's lots of comments....that I can't read 😢

Also, this quote from JKR's article did make me laugh

“So you’ve changed your position?” asked the moderator. “On the biology,” emphasised Starmer, leaving the impression that until Tony Blair sat him down for a chat, he’d never understood how he and his wife had come to produce children.

JK Rowling accuses Sir Keir Starmer of ‘abandoning women’

Women’s rights groups also criticise Labour leader for comments on gender ideology

Plus being a 'centrist'.....oh the horror!.....is perfectly acceptable, no? Most people are.

The only times Labour has actually won a general election since the 1970s were when it was essentially a centrist party.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 22/06/2024 09:04

Hatfullofwillow · 21/06/2024 21:57

She's one of people that contributed to the Tories winning in 2017, she abandoned Labour.

JKR didn't abandon Labour. She is not Labour's mummy.
She just stopped supporting a political party that she didn't agree with.

RedToothBrush · 22/06/2024 09:02

Are we saying that JKR was the single most important voice, making this concern known?

I mean there were actual Jewish Labour members and MPs saying it.

Were they unimportant?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 22/06/2024 09:01

Hatfullofwillow · 22/06/2024 08:29

Blimey. I know JKR inspires Trumpian like loyalty, but the responses I've received for simply pointing out her actual politics; against independence for Scotland, was fine with Labour until Corbyn became leader (her dissatisfaction had nothing to do with women's rights) broke the cultural boycott of Israel etc.

Labour lost in 2017 by a few thousand votes, given her cultist followers it's not inconceivable that her influence contributed to that loss.

She's not Dumbledore.

Do you understand that she is allowed to have, and express, whatever political views she likes? She doesn't owe Labour anything. She's allowed to not like Corbyn. Lots of people don't like Corbyn.

RedToothBrush · 22/06/2024 09:00

Hatfullofwillow · 22/06/2024 08:57

Rowling was calling for Corbyn to be removed from the ballot in 2016. She's a centrist. I never claimed her campaigning for women's rights was what caused her to withdraw support for Labour, that's what she seems to be claiming now.

Do you think she believed women's rights were best served by a centrist Labour party?

I have to say that sometimes the rampant nutty ideological Labour Loons and their Cross Party TRA ideological nutters really do amuse me by revealing that they think that everyone else is totally ideological driven and obsessed to the point making up shit.

This is the heart of the problem.

Meanwhile in the real world.

RedToothBrush · 22/06/2024 08:50

No she's not Dumbledore.

She can't travel back in time.

Note the date on this.
6 June 2020.

This was the earliest JKR got actively involved in this debate.

And yet apparently we are supposed to believe that JKR campaigning about women's rights was the thing that stopped Jeremy Corbyn from being PM three years earlier.

And to argue differently is apparently 'cultist'.

Nope. I actually have a clue what I'm talking about and am aware that a TARDIS is a fictional thing not a real one and that fantasy isn't reality no matter how much you want it to be.

HTH.

Their policies were popular, it was the mobilising of the entire establishment against Corbyn, including those in the Labour party that lost if for them.

If their policies were popular people would have voted for them.

She was one of the celebs that joined in the smearing of Corybn. I've got not time for her centrism.

You don't think Labour would have won without the antisemitism scam and with⁷ Corbyn getting the free ride from the establishment and the media Starmer's had since he became leader?

Go and derail something else. Like Magic Grandpa derailed the Labour Party

Hatfullofwillow · 22/06/2024 08:45

Hahahahahaha. No.
But sheer bullshit points for trying to pin Corbyn losing an election on JK Rowling.
Someone remind me which rule of misogyny blames women for men's failures?

Give over

Best ignored, tedious and obvious attempts to insult.

How would you describe the venom I've received for making a point about JK's politics? They're not normal responses.

Actually I disagree.

Why?

Cos I lived in a swing marginal seat and I was talking to people. Back in 2017 it wasn't a subject. No one knew anything about it. I did because it was a big deal to me, but at that point even I wasn't fully appreciating how bad this all was. I was still doing a lot of talking to random people about Brexit at that point (remember the 2nd Ref stuff which ultimately I felt was unwise) and in doing so talking to a lot of Labour, LD and Conservative people about politics. I didn't start being angry about Labour and the Lib Dems until 2018.

The issue that triggered problems with 'Lily Madigan and the Secret Facebook Group' not Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The Lily Madigan incident - with the full support of Wes Streeting - sort to remove women from democratic processes and to silence them with no debate. And it went downhill from there.

Concerns about Corbyn which I spoke to people about were about defence, anti semi-semitism and taxes.

You can go be a revisionist if you want, but in 2017 JKR wasn't even going public on the subject if I recall correctly.

So quite how she is responsible for the 2017 election result retrospectively, is anyone's guess.
