She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

On a second look, I’m not impressed by the BBC article title. It doesn’t represent the story properly. It should say something like Rosie Duffield “not safe” at hustings. I think I’ll complain.

It's totally about her views, a loose grouping of current and ex labour members, greens and general nutters hate her position both on sex and gender and her stance on anti semitism. They feel that because they helped her win in 2017 that she needs to agree with them on everything. They think she should represent them not the people of Whitstable and Canterbury. I'm not saying that all those operating under the #duffieldout are threatening violence of course but they are definitely making it hard or impossible for her to do her job

I couldn't remember reading about what her stance on antisemitism was. A quick search found this from January about how she'd been accused of antisemitism:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3gye5337k7o

But in this article, she's accused of undermining "support for the Palestinian quest for justice, supporting the Zionist so-called ‘Jewish Labour Movement’ and Labour Friends of Israel".

So are they complaining that she's antisemitic or that she's pro Israel?

Keir Starmer you fucking cowardAngry

He is only planning on getting rid of 50% of the violence against woman and girls. It's just Rosie isn't on the list, so he can't do anything about it.

Iamnotalemming · 15/06/2024 08:32

Bloody hell poor Rosie. It's one thing to be subjected to the batshit lies and threats, but for your party to not support you is outrageous, and undermines our democracy. Makes me furious.

I'm not exactly sure why Rosie Duffield is still in the Labour Party if I'm honest.

They are deranged! Here she is blamed because they think she is part of change UK (even though she wasn't)

How can we vote labour ?

I despair

I'm not, and their unwillingness to address these issues is why. Will only get worse.

lanadelgrey · 15/06/2024 07:50

Ffs. Can she hire the wonderful Lianne of get the L out and her crew who run security for FiLiA? Dammit I’d travel down to Canterbury and help out.

borntobequiet · 15/06/2024 07:35

I came to post the BBC report. It’s remarkably candid and straightforward, making it very clear for which of her views she is being trolled and abused.

Againname · 15/06/2024 01:17

CassieMaddox · 14/06/2024 20:16

Do you know who she's referring to and why? I wouldn't necessarily leap to this being about her GC views given how women in politics are generally treated. It sounds more like a stalker tbh.
Poor Rosie.

Regardless of who and why, the question is why isn't her party supporting her? Surely if one of your MPs or candidates is being threatened and abused, they should be supported by their colleagues and the party leader?

I don't know much about this (saw it in Active) but from what I've seen on this thread she should have the same protection as Nigel Farage. But also support from her party.

I don't want to sound harsh. I'm tired and perhaps being a bit mean but I feel like I'd respect her more if at this stage she left and stood as an Independent. I assume though it's too late to do that before the GE? Maybe she can do that afterwards if she wins. She's been treated appallingly by her party. Whatever people's views on any issues, a candidate or MP shouldn't be unable to attend hustings or other campaign events due to risk to their safety.

IwantToRetire · 15/06/2024 01:03

Ms Duffield has been a longstanding advocate of gender-critical ideology, which emphasises the importance of biological sex and single-sex spaces for women.

The Labour candidate, who has represented Canterbury since 2017, has regularly complained about her experiences in the party, and last year likened it to being in an abusive relationship.

She has previously been heckled by male colleagues on her benches while speaking about trans issues in the Commons, prompting her to accuse Labour of having a “woman problem”.

Not like you Cassie. You're usually more than ready to leap right in.

Violetparis · 14/06/2024 23:06

Harriet Harman has replied to Jess's tweet with sympathy but nothing on Rosie's. Sarah Champion has tweeted in support of Rosie but not seen anything from other Labour MPs.

If you search Rosie Duffield on twitter tonight then number of comments who are clearly from Labour members who are abusing her and telling her this is her fault is outrageous.

There is a substantial faction within our local Labour club who are openly trying to get Rosie ousted. Absolutely disgusting treatment by her own party. Plenty of local loudmouths mouthing off lies and misrepresentation on social media about her too. I'm just hoping the GC contingent keeping quiet publicly but are more numerous than it appears, and ready to vote for her.

To add - I imagine it's the same people who made her feel too unsafe to attend Labour Party Conferences also.

I think Rosie makes it quite clear who she's talking about.

A stalker is singular. She talks about 'certain people' who have been trolling and misrepresenting her for years. We all know who those people are or at least what faction of politics they represent.
