Oh dear it seems that the general public has started to wake up to the dangers of allowing men to falsify their birth certificate

Support for people's ability to change sex on birth certificate falls https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13519601/public-support-transgender-change-sex-birth-certificate.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

Support for people's ability to change sex on birth certificate falls

Just 24 per cent of people now agree that trans people should be allowed to change their sex 'if they want' - compared to support levels of 58 per cent in 2016.

I do love looking back at the interview of the Dutch man who really wanted to lower his age and his side conversation with J Fae. It was good watching.

I remember that!

There was a thread about it at the time https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3421396-Transage-bloke-on-Victoria-Derbyshire

And for those who didn't see it - here it is on youtube:

Transage bloke on Victoria Derbyshire | Mumsnet

Looks like Jane Fae is on to explain why it's not the same as transgender...

Behind each birth certificate there is the original entry in the birth register. Even in Germany, with the far reaching new self ID law, the register remains unchanged, as far as I know. New birth certificates have been issued for a long time here, too (1998?). Makes sense, because in some cases relatives of the trans person might need to prove their relation/descendancy and that only works with an unchanged register.

Good for her. I would keep a photocopy somewhere separately too.

It's an actual copy, as in an identical document, not a photocopy and yes, she has it tucked away safely. He doesn't live with her now as he has since graduated and moved out so he's unlikely to ever even know about it. Unless he unearths it after she dies. Maybe he will find it sweet that she kept it with her other little treasures. Her precious memory of him as a newborn.

A very frightening line is crossed when a state passes laws to allow official records to be falsified. That’s getting into Kafka territory. It removes one of the central supports of democracy, the expectation of honesty. Even while recognising that individuals may lie, actually building a lie into the structure weakens the whole thing.

Slight digression but here is a tweet thread about the misleading of the public with respect to physician associates being used instead of fully qualified doctors.

There's also a crowd justice fundraiser by a group of anaesthetists to challenge the GMC and demand stricter regulation of these pretend doctors. Dom g a little gardening for this. It is very concerning.

You know what, it's embarrassing to admit this cos I've been following FWR since about 2016, but I only realised quite recently that the GRC really does change your actual birth certificate, and my jaw hit the floor.

I'd heard people talk about it of course but i'd always thought it was such a bonkers idea that they couldn't possibly mean it literally.

This is why things have gotten so far, everyone thinks 'well that would never happen' "what a bonkers idea, of course that cant happen"

But it does, and that's why we have been trying so hard to get the message out there.
It's all so insane, the GRA being the most bonkers bill even outshining the covid act in how terribly written, no thought given to anyone else, stupidity.

That you can change an unchangeable document and also disrupt the census shows just how powerful the people behind this agenda are.

True, but only up until that power meets strong enough resistance.

Education is such a massive target, we are teaching what to think, not how to think. A very useful way to control the masses.Social engineering by stealth.
Those who don't respond to such education are unreachable, perhaps you need to control them by minimising their opportunities so they fight among themselves for resources.

As others have said, medical records will be missing - some people have been given a new NHS no upon transistion so their entire medical history is 'dead' unless they choose to disclose it, putting them at risk.

This is insanity.

This is exactly what I meant in my previous post. What about the mother's rights? (No one cares about those obviously).
It's mad.

I hope she is keeping that in a very safe place.

It's becoming apparent just how far the ripples spread out into the world, when you allow one person to legally falsify a document/ status.

Parents, especially mothers (as they gave birth) have their lived experience erased/rewritten.

As others have said, medical records will be missing - some people have been given a new NHS no upon transistion so their entire medical history is 'dead' unless they choose to disclose it, putting them at risk.

I've seen on the transwidows thread women talk about having a marriage certificate showing they married a man, but their decree absolute has a woman's name on it when they didn't marry a woman.

State sanctioned gaslighting.

I have every sympathy for someone who feels extremely distressed that their sex doesn't match their perceived gender, but they don't live their life in a vacuum. We aren't players in a computer game. We are part of couples, families and society and those relationships can't just be erased.

Indeed, many of us feel great empathy for people suffering gender dysphoria, which is a debilitating mental illness responsible for significant suffering. But I just don’t see how legislation that encourages the illness is beneficial or compassionate to those people. Laws that also make it easier for men who know exactly what they’re doing to inflict their sexual behaviour on women and girls.

My bachelors degree identifies as a PhD.

My GCSEs identity as A* and my A Levels as A. I also got a distinction in my grade 3 clarinet, the pass on my certificate is my dead grade

A close friend of mine has a ds who 'changed' gender when he was at university. She ordered a copy of his birth certificate before he had a chance to change it so that she could keep the record of his birth for herself. He doesn't know she has it. She had an emotional attachment to the experience of carrying him, birthing him and nurturing him as a little baby boy and she didn't want that to be legally taken away from her. She wanted the certificate to reflect the truth.

So we have a situation where there could now be 2 birth certificates for the same person, one saying he was born male and one saying he was born female. Also, presumably her medical records still show that she gave birth to a boy?

Funny old world.

The support for this is so strange, can we change other certificates? Who a child's parent is?.. oh wait they want that too..
My degree certificate? I've always felt it should be a law degree or maybe medicine?. Wheres the need for divorce if we just change the marriage cert and say it didn't happen?

My bachelors degree identifies as a PhD.

Even the Tories have shied away from leaving the EHCR, so there is no way in hell Labour are going to do it. It's just too much bad publicity for too little gain.

Labour are watching the polls like hawks and behind the scenes they're rubbing their hands together with glee. They KNOW they're going to get a huge landslide on 4th July and that they don't have to do a damn thing on any of this gender stuff. So they're not going to waste political capital making promises they don't need to make on what, for many people, is a niche issue.

LilyBartsHatShop · 14/06/2024 02:48

I've been inspired to look up legislation in the state I've now been living in for seven years. It turns out the Gender Reassignment Act of 2000 (2000!!) allows people who have "undergone a gender reassignment procedure" to change their birth certificates.
Western Australia has a bit of a reputation, like maybe how you'd think of moving to Texas.

I had no idea.

Trouble is, surely, getting rid of the GRA seems an impossible dream and a million miles away. For one thing, it's not just a UK thing, this lunacy is in other countries too, and hence all this stuff about accepting GRCs from other countries. It would mean falling out with (and leaving) the ECHR, wouldn't it? I wouldn't say it's impossible (nothing is), but it'd take a bold, confident, radical government to crack on with it. I look at Keir Starmer, and I think, no chance.

I think we have seen that it's possible with Hungary. Although ECHR is a Council of Europe convention, all EU states must sign the ECHR. Hungary is an EU member state, and yet Hungary amended its law a few years ago to not allow the change of legal sex.

As I'm not Hungarian, I haven't read this law and have only seen reports in English. They've had some issues with the EU, over this and also provisions relating to same-sex couples, but they're still members. The EU did freeze some funds that were meant to go to Hungary a while back, but that was about judicial reforms (it also happened to Poland) but then some of the funds were released.

That's a really clear set of stats. The sunlight is making it undeniable to people who either didn't care before, or had a limited understanding of what was going on behind closed doors.

I can also imagine that more people have now come up against the ideology in real life. There's nothing quite like seeing it for yourself.

Hepwo · 13/06/2024 17:39

They have two sexes, both sexes in fact. One biological as is the way of the entire population of the planet planet, and the opposite sex they have in paper form only.

Isn't it just! So a person can effectively have 2 birth certificates. How convenient!

When I was little, I sent away some cereal packet tops (remember doing that?) and got a badge indicating that I was a member of the Biggles Air Police. GRCs should be like that: have one if you wish, but it doesn't change anything important, like your birth certificate or marriage status.

Maybe Legoland could sort this one out. My son took a driving test there when he was 3 - I've still got his licence. He had to take another test when he was 17 though.
