Body language in this interview

this GB news interview between Joanna and Camilla was unsettling but I didn’t know why.

This Twitter poster commented on Joanna’s darting eyes.

Does anyone know what that eye movement might suggest in body language terms? Google says stress, trying to escape or lying.

Is it possible it’s something else? I have an autistic niece and she looks out the corner of her eye, so her eyes can flick, but not quite like this.

Anyone got insight into body language?

I think there's a medical condition that causes your eyes to move constantly from side to side and it's not something that a person can control.

Have you ever been on a video call OP? It's very difficult if your webcam is not directly above the screen where everyone else is. The instinct is to look at everyone else's faces but if you do that then you look odd on camera. You need to look into the camera.

In my experience this results in much flicking back and forth.

Why on earth you'd try to ascribe some sort of lying sinister personality to it I've no idea.

As Inebriati says, it doesn't work when it's a filmed interaction, possibly with someone looking at a different screen/camera.

This is a man talking a lot of shit, I wouldn't worry too much about what his eye movements are doing tbh.

Body language is most relevant when its two people talking face to face in real life, and reading each other.
The more steps there are between you and the person you are trying to read, the more artificial the situation, the less accurate your reading will be.

There was a repeat of an episode of Mastermind on TV earlier this week. It wasn't me who pointed out the body language issues - it was DH. (It's on iPlayer 2021/22 episode 22).

As the episode goes on, we both were looking at each other going what. It has to be watched to see the point as I think describing it sounds terrible but the imaginary says everything that needs to be said. It's not just about physicality it's also about attitude that it reveals.

I do think this matters because we are supposed to not trust our eyes and what we learn from what we hear and see and the meaning it conveys to us.

There is a huge amount of human communication which isn't verbal but is important to our understanding of a situation.

I saw this interview in full and thought the body language was really odd. At the beginning of the full interview he sticks his tongue partly out and then looks like he is thoroughly enjoying himself, smugly holding back a good laugh throughout. The eyes flicking side-to-side might be reading something on a screen?

A sideways glance is usually used to break eye contact, and can indicate doubt or loss of confidence in what the other person is saying.

But in this case you can't make any inference because you don't know what his camera position is or what's on his screen. He may be looking at multiple images on a split screen, showing the interviewer and his own image.
