Sinèad Watson was detained for tweeting

Just seen this by Sinèad's lawyer. Don't know anymore than this, sounds par for the course unfortunately.

Someone at @PSOSGreaterGlas needs to answer for the absurd, inhumane protocols you have set up. You need a complete policy revamp and whoever came up with your current procedures needs to be fired.

Sinèad Watson was detained for tweeting, for speech. For typing characters into a text box. Her phone was taken. She was arrested. She was handcuffed. She was put in a dirty cell. She was not given feminine products and made to sit in her own menstrual blood for 3 hours.

For what? She is under suspicion of "malicious communication online." Not a violent crime. Not a crime that has anything to do with the content of her cell phone. All of Sinead's purportedly illegal tweets are/were public at the time of her arrest. There is NOTHING on her cell phone that has anything to do with them. This is a violation of her privacy to embark on a fishing expedition for unrelated evidence.

Put aside the obvious free speech violation, because I get that not every country feels the same way (but it is a violation of her God-given rights to charge her with this absurd thought crime). Even IF you believe that tweets are illegal, the way she was handled and processed is completely unnecessary, unsafe, and dehumanizing.

Someone needs to lose their job. Sinèad is owed a massive public apology for what happened to her at a BARE minimum.

So what did she tweet?
Sorry but this whole "she's a little woman on her period leave her alone" victim narrative leaves me a bit 🙄
So, what, me right now could tweet/incite what I like online?
Without any context this is what it comes across as.
You're not immune to inciting hate just because you're a woman.

inciting hate? like being photographed in front of signs that say "decapitate terfs" that type of hate?

Why are you on a feminist board pretending to give a shit when you have a TERF blocker on your Twitter account?

We see you!

I don't use any block lists or manually block people just because they hold certain views. Anyone I block are either porn bots or people who cross the line by issuing threats that sort of thing.

I do wonder if it might have been more to do with what she's said about her ex.

I was actively following Sinèad Watson maybe two years ago, but my attention was diverted elsewhere. What’s going on with her and her ex? Is this the guy she was in a relationship with recently, or an ex from further back?

I find it remarkable that any poster who has ever posted that MN was an echo chamber or that posters "Stick to your echo chamber, you clearly sound more comfortable in it" would not see the significance of using a block list on social media.

yourhairiswinterfire · 07/06/2024 14:05

If this was a TRA or trans person detailing how they'd been degraded by the police, there'd be none of this obnoxious 'wut, shouldn't a lickle woman on her period get arrested' bollocks being spouted. Nor would they be accused of committing a crime for sharing their experience.

But because it's a woman who is marked red on some fucking creepy 'terf' watch list, she must be lying when she says the institutionally misogynistic police mistreated her.

Justnot · 07/06/2024 13:43

the terf blocker needs to fuck off and stop wasting our time (and their own)

Helleofabore · 07/06/2024 13:42

What person who takes a balanced view of judging people based on their own interpretation of that person's actions uses a block list or at the very least posts someone else's content that uses a block list as being credible?

Maybe someone who resurrected a thread last night that MN then closed (which is highly unusual) but had posted what could only be a post supportive of someone who has been reported by investigative journalists as a sex offender, and who tries to sue anyone who refers to the conviction. And who uses the law to abuse women who they disagree with in particular. Maybe someone who doesn't do their own research but will assume the worst of women discussing such issues based on a prejudice that they hold that fits with using a block list.

Is there any evidence for the allegations being made against the police on her twitter? Have the police seen what's being posted on there about them?

According to the Scotsman part of Marion Millar's charges were for "disclosing false information" about an officer. We don't know if SW's allegations are true or not but if not it could potentially be a crime.

Ooh, perhaps you'd better get in touch with the Scot Police and tell them? Unless you've done that already? This could be really serious!!

Ok, so it's a block list by the sounds of it?
If so, what's the big deal?
I don't use them, but lots of people do

This isn't the first time women have been denied menstrual products, is it?

There should be absolutely no bloody excuse, whatsoever. The station should be fully stocked at all times.

It bloody awful that anyone should even be considering the possibility that it's done to make women uncomfortable, tho always with an air of plausible deniability, of course.

But I absolutely do think it's deliberate. Watching how women have been targeted under this ideology has done that.

Given the smugness with which all the Scotgov bangs on about providing free sanitary protection, you'd think they'd be right on this.

'Scotland is the first country in the world to protect in law the right to access free period products for anyone who needs them.
Under the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 (the Act) local authorities and education providers are legally required to make period products available free of charge, as and when they are required. Products must be easily obtained, in a way that respects people’s dignity, and a range of products must be made available.'

I'm so sick of this complete abuse of power by police to try to shut women up.

ArabellaScott · 07/06/2024 12:53

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 07/06/2024 12:34

Maybe they did it to hasten repeal. Or at least some very serious amendment to make it workable.

Sinead's arrest? It seems that was under Mal Comms, not the HCA.

I doubt it @AmaryllisNightAndDay knowing how deeply embedded misogyny is in the police.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 07/06/2024 12:34

To be fair to police, they raised issues wrt the HCA several times.

It's a good job tha Police Scotland don't have any more pressing issues to deal with, like murders, rapes, drug addiction etc innit!!!

Amd maybe they should be given the space to do their job before we all jump to assumptions based on twitter.

They shouldn't have any sort of peace while enforcing a law that criminalises speech even in the privacy of the home and is a score settler's charter. It's a shit law and everyone who had anything to do with introducing it should get a daily bucket of shit in their social media and snail mail until they plead with Swinney to scrap the law.

All I'm saying is maybe the police did have grounds to arrest her, separate to her GC beliefs.

Amd maybe they should be given the space to do their job before we all jump to assumptions based on twitter.

And here you are floating around a feminist board sowing seeds of doubt on a woman that’s been horrifically treated by medical professionals, spoken in the House of Commons against these practices and battles daily with what she has done to herself.

strange

So the Police are as we speak rushing around arresting all those who have ACAB in their bios? Gosh, they'll be busy.

Good to know of Plod priorities.

Our local ones take 36+ hours to turn out to dust for prints after a burglary.

Dumbo12 · 07/06/2024 11:53

The "forgetting" to provide menstrual products, could well be a deliberate ploy to ensure that the woman in question feels uncomfortable, thus more likely to agree with any suggestion the police make. This could have the effect of the "prisoner" making statements which she believes the police want to hear, in a bid to get better treatment and maybe to leave the police station.
