How depressing! This in the Guardian (of course).

Campaigners mount legal challenge against puberty blockers ban in Britain https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/jun/06/legal-challenge-puberty-blockers-ban-britain?CMP=sharebtnn_url

Wasn't he advocating going abroad for hormone injections every few months or am I getting confused about a previous tweet?

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2024 06:53

He's not been sanctioned, he just gave up his practising certificate, looking at this.

The 2 results are other Jolyons.

Christ. Can't begin to think why he's no longer a barrister.

Thingybob · 08/06/2024 06:45

Jolyon posted a thread on Twitter yesterday (sorry I can't link) with pointers for families to get around the ban. His final post was ....

"My advice is to think extremely carefully before choosing to engage with the NHS. I do not think it can be relied upon to prioritise welfare"

Helleofabore · 08/06/2024 05:54

The thing is though, I don’t believe any feminist would be not fully supportive of exposing any attempt to obfuscate or to erase the truth around these cases. I am sure we all want to see the clear, unvarnished truth. Including the mental health history and the nature of the interactions of any person who gave that child advice online or in person.

At what point will those in positions of influence who have followed the messaging that included false information accept responsibility. And by false information, I mean repeating phrases to children such as ‘PBs are safe and just a pause’ when the truth of the nature of these drugs started to be discussed. Plus, any person of influence that leveraged suicide as a persuasive tool.

To be clear, I am referring to support groups, clinicians, MPs and journalists / influencers and so on. I am not talking about parents and their children here. I think the leveraging of suicide, which had been false, has been extreme negligence on the part of these groups. And I am all for such misuse to never happen again by a group in society.

Telling children that other children are committing suicide when they have not received treatment they have been taught is ‘life saving’ and that society hates them for being trans, and that medicalisation is the only way they can live their true self, and all the messaging along that line is abhorrent. Exposing it to view is the one way to stop it and the only way it will be truthfully represented in the future case studies on this era.

If there has been an increase in suicides, this needs to be exposed. So, on so many levels, bring it on.

The Guardian article failed to grab this scoop:

I spoke to a senior NHS whistleblower who told me of a massive increase in deaths amongst trans young people since the NHS changed its practice on puberty blockers. She told me the NHS was suppressing the evidence. I've seen her contemporaneous emails.

Wait. What? That's a Xeet from Jolyon. Seems totally out of character for him to mention it.

Plus, it's such a sensational item, it's hard to see how it could be suppressed.

Are there any other sources for this? Because, as they say, HUGE if true.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/06/2024 14:12

It may be totally unconnected to the whistleblower, but I believe there were staff at the Tavistock involved in assessing, counselling and treating children and teenagers who were themselves trans-identifying. This has to have affected how the clinic operated and what other members of staff felt able to say if they had concerns about protocols and referrals to the endocrinologists. I feel it's comparable to having a member of staff with an obvious eating disorder treating ED patients.

I agree but also think it’s even worse because although some trans-identifying adults are simply mentally ill, I believe a large component of trans-identified males are sexual predators who are fully aware if they they are doing and why. So they are delivering some of society’s most vulnerable children quite possibly to people with those inclinations.

Mmmnotsure · 07/06/2024 23:30

@StickItInTheFamilyAlbum

Barbara Rich not impressed. On Xwitter re Maugham's whistle blower comment:

"The crowdfunding solicitation is in part based on these shocking but unverified assertions. I think it’s irresponsible to put these into the public domain in this way and for this purpose. Such claims call for proper, dispassionate investigation."

Datun · 07/06/2024 09:10

Bring it on. As ever, the more sunlight, the better.

I would absolutely back an investigation into the mental health and personal circumstances of children who get sucked into gender ideology.

Let's see exactly who they are and where the failings, if any, lie.

Absolutely. Astronomical rates of abuse and trauma in these poor children. But yes of course we should add to that by mutilating them and delivering them into the hands of the subset of men who commit sexual offences at far higher rates than the average male. You don’t have to look far into the backgrounds of people who transition in children and you’ll find the answer staring you in the face. Yet supposed mental health experts can’t see what is in front of them?

lonelywater · 07/06/2024 23:26

up until now I have drawn a distinction between those TRA's such as Fred, Himdia and Montgomerie et al who are completely hatstand and the likes of Maugham who whilst just as mental appeared to have retained some kind of functioning relationship to reality. After this latest example of batshittery I will have to revise that opinion.

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 07/06/2024 22:44

I usually take a look at what Barbara Rich thinks of JM's endeavours but her account is locked.

The fox killer is such a useless grifter.

Rightsraptor · 07/06/2024 16:14

But Jolyon talks of the young people 'losing their life'. This is not synonymous with suicide. They could have died in any number of totally unrelated ways. If it's true.

Maaate · 07/06/2024 14:51

Wouldn't the parents be screaming blue murder if their child died regardless of any subsequent cover-ups?

I've seen 3 maybe 4 cases reported on social media in the last couple of years.

Thingybob · 07/06/2024 15:12

Polly Curtis from Tortoise Media was also told there had been a sudden increase in children on the GIDS waiting list taking their own lifes. She couldn't get clarification from Polly Carmichael or the Tavistock press office as they refused to confirm or deny the numbers.

For how long has the restriction been in place?

Wouldn't there be Coroner reports and expressions of concern?

Wouldn't NHS England's CYP Gender Dysphoria Research Oversight Board be saying something? Or issuing a notice of concern?

Which makes you wonder: will Labour let it lapse in November? Cass to the left of them, TRAs to the right and no hope of staying stuck in the middle. Or quietly ignoring it.

Denis Kavanagh in his podcast (Queens Speech) mentioned that Wes Streeting stated publicly that he would continue Victoria Atkins ban if Labour are elected. I haven’t got any proof myself as to whether or not this is correct but Denis is very particular about facts so there’s no reason to suppose he’s incorrect.

He's not claiming any sort of causality or indeed any links to puberty blockers or change of stance.

Thanks to Anya Palmer for highlighting this - yesterday he was explicitly saying that he's not claiming causality, and was quite offended at the suggestion.

But today....

There would be a chance of retaining it, If Wes Streeting was made Minister for Health in a Labour government. Otherwise, yes, I suspect it would be allowed to lapse. And we have to ensure that it is retained.

And even if it is Wes, he needs his feet held to the fire. I don't believe for a moment that his current stance is based more on principle than on his ability to read an opinion poll.

So this explains why he stopped being a barrister - no professional body to hold him to account 🤷🏼‍♀️

lcakethereforeIam · 07/06/2024 10:23

I keep read 'senior whistleblower' in one of those cod-Mexican Speedy Gonzalez-type accents, Seen-i-or Wheesil-bloweeer. I'm sorry, this adds nothing to the thread except to demonstrate how much respect I'm assigning to Joly's claim. Not much.

I'm sick of them weaponising the deaths of children and young people (real and imagined). It reminds me of the likes of Jim Jones. They've been begged to stop but they carry on. I'm reluctant to assign malign intent to malign outcomes, more good intentions -> road to hell, but I'm struggling with this one.
