Although I think we have a candidate for PE’s Pseuds Corner:

She is as much a deprecating fury as a spright-like intellectual gadfly, fiercely intelligent, vulnerable but also implacable.

Good grief.

I can't see the reply Moleskine sent, is it available?

I don't think they have responded. The wittering about "This is the email @moleskine sent me" I think just refers to the marketing e-mail that set this rant a-running.

Are their planners any good? I usually keep my life together with the help of Circle Planners but I feel guilty about all the pages that don't get used.

I like them.

I've been using their 18-month pocket diaries for years now, I find the blank page useful to make additional notes without having to write tiny/illegibly. I get a new one mid-year, doesn't matter when because the old one I'm using runs to the end of the year, and when I get to the end of the year, I'm definitely using the new one by then so that I can be noting appointments in January onwards.

Come on, which one of you wrote this Amazon review?

“A friend gave me this for my birthday - I can only assume they secretly hate me and want me to suffer”

EdithStourton · 07/06/2024 10:43

I'd be embarrassed if someone wrote bullshit like that about me...

She wrote that herself, didn't she? As a person who needs corrective lenses, I really despise people who use spectacles with plain glass as fashion accessories. Offensive appropriation.

The whole site is a 503.

The Potter notebook ad is still on their Instagram as of now.

One of the down sites says moleskine.com is currently under maintenance.

SinnerBoy · 07/06/2024 11:29

spright-like

I assume they meant sprite? Another candidate for A-Level English. Where do they find these numpties?

Sausagenbacon · 07/06/2024 11:23

I like how they look and feel - the chunkiness, the creamy white paper 🙂
I quite like writing things down, appointments and meetings, in addition to setting digital reminders.
I’m currently using their daily planners, before that (when I had less stuff on) their weekly planners were sufficient.

@Butterworths cross post/edit. I should have just waited. MN is often faster, and better, than Google.

'Intellectual gadfly'! I've heard that before, not as a compliment. Was it supposed to be?

Although Socrates seems to have been okay with it, thanks Google

Edited

I thought it was a compliment usually - Socrates used it to refer to himself. Lol at the overall quote though, it's excruciating.

@Helleofabore

Dunno, looking at all the carefully curated photos, hard to tell given we know how filters can basically turn Gollum into a vision of loveliness.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 07/06/2024 08:20

So go ahead and buy all her stuff, noone cares

well that’s obviously not true

and you can never have enough notebooks…fact

I noticed this with the Harry Potter game from last year too. Fans of JK Rowling would say they would intentionally buy multiple copies as if to make some sort of point they were doing it to "spite" trans people.

It's not the win or "flex" you think it is. JK Rowling is a billionaire and doesn't need any extra royalties from people buying Harry Potter pencil cases and various other stuff with Daniel and Emma's 12 year old faces on it they don't even need or have any use for. She has more money than any of us can imagine or ever use up. Giving money to Rowling would be like pouring a glass of water into the sea to give it a drink.

So go ahead and buy all her stuff, noone cares.

I doubt anyone thinks that she could do with a few quid to help with her weekly shop but we do like to signal to companies that women's rights are important. As JKR is someone who is very vocal about women's rights, buying stuff linked to her tells companies to keep collaborations going. If everyone stopped buying anything JKR related then the companies could take the view that women's rights are not something to support.

Supporting JKR is something that we can do to show that women matter. We're not menstruators or cervix havers, we are women. TRAs wouldn't be happy if we called transwomen penis people but are happy to refer to women by their body parts to dehumanise us.

Chersfrozenface · 07/06/2024 07:55

Anyone can call themself Mrs

You know those sites that sell Lord of the Manor titles (which are genuine)? A woman can buy a Lord title - I know that, because I enquired.

Helleofabore · 07/06/2024 05:05

Sadly Sinner, I wouldn’t be going by curated photos these days. What a world eh.

SinnerBoy · 07/06/2024 04:26

Unless the photos are cribbed, they look female.
