Well he is one of the reasons I feel unable to vote Labour. The behaviour of his researcher but particularly LRM in the commons was appalling and as far as I am aware was considered unworthy of any disciplinary measures. As far as I’m concerned a Parliament without that vile man can only be a good thing.

By the way, has anyone else noticed that he now sits as close as he possibly can to Rosie Duffield in the Commons? Even when there are rows of empty benches, he’s right in front of her.

his behaviour is appalling. That time he went over to sit and stare at Miriam Cates was appalling. He should have been suspended for that alone: going over to the other benches to harass a woman MP who had been speaking about women's rights? bloody Norah the bar is very high to get rid of some of them.

It was me !!!! I am in a close by (and will be closely contested) seat and I told the Labour Stooge that canvassed on Saturday morning that I was a one issue voter and that I couldn’t vote Labour until they protected safe spaces for biological women.

he said he would make a note and pass it on.

Manifestation baby !

Thank you @mountaingoatsarehairy ❤️

Bit of a mess this morning generally

Igmum · 30/05/2024 08:07

Just heard this on R4 and came on to see the discussion (after saying 'YES!' a few times obvs Grin). Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

SinnerBoy · 30/05/2024 07:54

Mussolini made the trains run on time, so it's not as clear cut as saying he's just an all round terrible person.

(I'm not actually comparing Russel-Moyle to Mussolini).

I think we can assume the allegation is very serious and seen to be a threat to Labours campaign for them to do this just

Yes....

The problem with this kind of assumption is that in theory its very easy to suspend someone based on "allegations" and people will assume they are serious so it becomes an easy way to smear someone. The same way I used to think it must take a lot to get banned from Twitter, but X person was so they must have said something really dreadful. Hmmm. The best thing would be if a suspension happened and everyone reserved judgement until more details came out. That's not how people work though.

So even though I am enjoying the schadenfreude I also hope (in a weird way) the allegations are at least serious enough to justify a suspension as otherwise it says worrying things about Labour. But I also hope they aren't that serious as that would mean someone could have been hurt in some way. hmmm.

This is when they should have suspended him, when he showed his megalomania.

So did I. I wrote a long letter to Kier Starmer disclosing how triggering that was to me personally, and sent it to his Westminster office recorded delivery.

I wonder how many other women did and if it had a cumulative effect?

Maybe a complaint has emerged in line with the sentiments in ours that tipped the balance in legal terms. I would like to think my letter is part of a dossier of supporting evidence against him.

I rather hope that's the case. I wonder if we'll find out...

StellaOlivetti · 29/05/2024 18:36

I complained to Labour about him regarding his behaviour in the Hiuse when Miriam Cates was speaking. He is absolutely dreadful and I’m glad to hear this.

The arcane machinations of the PLP are very hard to scry. My guess, it's nothing at all to do with FWR or KJK.
Labour stuff

CaveMum · 30/05/2024 07:29

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lefty purge going on. I keep hearing people like Alastair Campbell saying that KS is more ruthless than people realise, perhaps he is!

JuneOsbourne · 30/05/2024 07:23

LRM won't run as an Independent. He's already said he will be looking at other ways to support the party once he's cleared his name. I assume he'll be looking for a senior spad role and then to be parachuted back in at the next by-election opportunity.

His views on women's rights are odious and we've seen really poor behaviour from him in parliament. But he's also done some great work in other areas, such as on the net zero select committee, so it's not as clear cut as saying he's just an all round terrible person.

I think the timing is very suspicious. It's one thing finding stuff out at the eleventh hour about a PPC, but LRM is a sitting MP.

TomPinch · 30/05/2024 02:55

Well that's all very interesting. Russell-Moyle would have been certain to win.

But Brighton Kemptown has a strong Tory vote. A Tory held it until 2017. If Labour stand their own candidate and RM runs as an independent, splitting the left-wing vote, it's quite possible for the Tories to regain the seat.

NefertitiV · 30/05/2024 02:14

JanesLittleGirl · 29/05/2024 21:54

10/10 to Labour for spiking KJK's guns. We were told that they had a plan. Seriously impressed.

KJK appears to be going with the story that she scared him off.

Let's have a look at this assertion: he's a seasoned, experienced politician of a major party, with solid funding. Even suspended from the Labour party, he can still stand as an Independent. He only requires funding to campaign in his own electorate, but she needs to support her own Party.

In election season, it's common for allegations of this type to surface. They do need to be investigated, even if turns out they are vexatious. What if they are not? Additionally, If they were not investigated, you would be equally outraged with Starmer if LRM won and then it emerged.

KJK hasn't scared anyone, but she may yet have her opportunity.

SinnerBoy · 30/05/2024 02:06

BezMills · Yesterday 20:29

If he truly wishes to serve his community, he should stand as an independent.

If he truly wishes to serve his community, he should retire to Gruinard.

TheClogLady · 30/05/2024 00:29

Just having a poke around the internet to find out what was happening in Brighton Labour 8ish years ago…

This local news story is from one of the neighbouring Brighton CLPs

https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/15074382.labour-official-accused-of-anti-semitic-tweets/

and LRM has supposedly written in defence of Rebecca Massey so I’m going to assume they know each other

LRM has had to apologise for anti semitism in the past, and what with Diane Abbot being prevented from standing again as a Labour candidate & Corbyn potentially standing as an indie, I’m wondering if there is a push within Starmer’s camp to clean house of what’s left of that particular part of the Left?

The Chingford candidate has been closing the gap on Iain Duncan Smith for a while now, so not surprised she’s upset. It’s possible/probable that she’s being cleared out as part of the same clean up project?

Lloyd Russel Moyle suspended
Exx · 29/05/2024 23:54

StainlessSteelMouse · 29/05/2024 23:06

Not a fan of LRM by any means. Quite apart from him being a massive misogynistic twat, I was always amused that the secretary of the Socialist Campaign Group was a buy-to-rent landlord.

But yeah, this looks very much timed for a purge of Corbynite MPs. Keir is more ruthless than he's given credit for, and some of his entourage are extremely nasty.

But I wonder how smart Keir is. Rochdale bit him on the arse because he thought he could solve Labour's antisemitism problem just by getting ride of Corbynites. It turned out to be a bigger problem than that. If Keir has convinced himself that bad behaviour in the PLP is restricted to his factional enemies, I've got a bridge to sell him.

Just happened to catch Faiza Shaheen on Newsnight earlier, virtually in tears because she's been dismissed as a Labour candidate. Is this due to Corbyn support as well, because the complaint against her used as a reason sounded flimsy? (I've not heard of her before.)

FOJN · 29/05/2024 23:49

Feministwoman · 29/05/2024 23:26

But KJK can always now find another constituency to shed some sunlight on, now (unless it really is going to be EI parachuted in, in place of LRM!)

I think she selected his constituency because he's such a volatile character. It's headlines she's after to raise awareness of Labours position and highlight their contempt for women. He's such a misogynist he would have played his part perfectly.

Anyone reasonable won't be useful at all.

Toseland · 29/05/2024 23:48

DialSquare · 29/05/2024 18:59

Hmmmmmm. Do you think it's because Labour know that he wouldn't be able hold his temper against KJK?

Absolutely this.
It's very odd though that it's taken 8 years - something very fishy is going on here.

lcakethereforeIam · 29/05/2024 23:35

Well, I imagine Miriam and Rosie are gutted. I hope they reach out to him, like this 🖕

Wasn't Rosie put through a similar ordeal by the LP? Some nonsense about antisemitism. Perhaps she'll have a tip for him, a fingertip (see above).

Helleofabore · 29/05/2024 23:29

Oh noes!!! I cannot imagine that women MPs who have been bullied by him in the past will be unhappy at all.

Feministwoman · 29/05/2024 23:26

LaPalmaLlama · 29/05/2024 23:20

Well also there’s basically no swing risk in the TWAW vote because they’re hardly going to vote Tory so alienating them has zero political ramifications- they’ll either abstain or vote LD or Labour. Given the swing predicted it doesn’t matter.

Theyhadsomehoneyandplentyofmoney · 29/05/2024 23:14

Feasibly, whatever ‘the excuse’ is - how about Starmers got rid of LRM now because the fight that would have exploded with KJK would have pushed the Labour think some women are men issue, and all it entails, into the broader media limelight?

That is the last thing starmer wants. Having more women in the UK actually understanding the consequences of labours position - would be catastrophic for him and the LP.

Fact is most women who’d vote Labour at this point in time, don’t realise that women and women’s safe spaces don’t exist for Labour, given that they include men.
