I don't know what the allegation is. I suspect that Keir Starmer is having a tidy up of people who are likely to cause him problems - which this guy is.

Angela Rayner may want to watch her back then....

God. Much as I am glad to see the back of Russell Moyle, I see nothing to admire in that vile Telegraph article.
"Labour was once a party of real men." Fuck off Brendan WhoeverYouAre.

duc748 · 30/05/2024 17:52

Been watching similar behaviour from Left and Right of the Labour Party all my life. Labour leadership 'acting tough' in the run-up to an election.

CaveMum · 30/05/2024 07:29

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lefty purge going on. I keep hearing people like Alastair Campbell saying that KS is more ruthless than people realise, perhaps he is!

I agree, I think there is some very tactical work going on here. They've saved all the receipts and are defenestrating people at exactly the right time, when there's no way they can get back into the system before the election.

Although it may piss off a few hardliners, I also think that the act of being hard on Corbynites is also designed to appeal to wavering voters who are afraid of Labour being too left wing if they get in.

IwantToRetire · 30/05/2024 17:31

It read to me as though Brendan O'Neill has been storing up well document instances and examples about LRM posted on FWR.

Could almost swear some of it was word for word!

Oh that article was beautiful to read, thanks for posting!😂

lcakethereforeIam · 30/05/2024 15:26

The Brexit criticisms were wasted on me too, but I very much enjoyed the rest of the article.

duc748 · 30/05/2024 15:05

Ironic that Brendan O'Neil, himself very much a Lexiter, is criticising LRM over Brexit. Yes, it was a really shit idea, Brendan, and you may think it's the finest flowering of British democracy, but I can't agree.

Someone let Brendan O'Neill off his leash in the Telegraph

Fwiw I don't think LRM is the worst MP, there are many other more deserving candidates. I also agree with PP when they speak up about the good stuff he did as an MP. But the stuff that blotted his copy book with me is entirely on him. No-one forced him to say or behave in the misogynistic ways that he did. Unfortunately, it's likely to be what he's mostly remembered for.

histrionic stage-kid socialism

😂😂

Lloyd Russell-Moyle was Parliament’s worst MP

The good people of Brighton Kemptown truly deserve better than a sanctimonious twerp who encapsulates the worst aspects of the new Left

Oh dear. How sad. Never mind

This was my first response when hearing it on the news last night whilst immediately thinking of you lot!

Good. He was awful trying to intimidate women in Parliament .

+ + (I'm not actually comparing Russel-Moyle to Mussolini). + +

That's exactly what you're doing!

No, I was using hyperbole to take the piss. So he's done some good things, do they outweigh the bad? I mean, Sure Start was excellent, but does that outweigh helping to start an illegal war?

That what's his name MP that's come out as trans was coincidentally in hot water for a serious driving offence...

Jamie Wallis, STBXMP for Bridgend. Well, when he crashed his Mercedes and ran off he was wearing a black leather mini-skirt, high heels, a pearl necklace and make-up.

I suppose he could have said he'd been to a fancy dress party, but I imagine he thought that saying he was trans was a better get-out-of-jail-free card. Which, TBF, history tells us it is.

Interestingly if you have a skeleton in the closet, that can be a motivation for people to cover themselves in a 'social justice' (as student types regard it) issue as armour plating (think of the 1970s and charity marathons).

This is a really, really important point and I can think of a few of the more vociferous social justice/TRA warriors out there right now who are actively doing this.

Or because of the vociferousness of his social media TRA fanbase. Interestingly if you have a skeleton in the closet, that can be a motivation for people to cover themselves in a 'social justice' (as student types regard it) issue as armour plating (think of the 1970s and charity marathons). It's odd that a gay male MP should be pushing so fervently for a homophobic fad that is sending a generation of gay youths to surgeons to be made 'straight', but trans activists make a useful and very loud stockade wall.

Mussolini made the trains run on time, so it's not as clear cut as saying he's just an all round terrible person.

(I'm not actually comparing Russel-Moyle to Mussolini).

That's exactly what you're doing! Let's try to be sensible here, otherwise we're doing the same as TRAs who call us Nazis because we happen to agree with some right wing politicians on this one single issue.

Lots of people living in fuel poverty view LRM's work as valuable and important. He should have been sanctioned over his behaviour re Miriam Cates and wasn't. Presumably because he is popular in Brighton and the wider party and respected for the work he does. (Oh and because Labour has a women problem obvs!)

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. As someone said above, it definitely feels like a purge of Corbynites.

I don’t doubt the allegation is genuine- he’s such a piece of shit I’d be amazed if there weren’t allegations- but I wonder if it was “filed away” for the optimum moment.

Keir pretty much knows he’s got this election so now he can drain the swamp and the people that might kick off about it know that if they torpedo him now it just hands the Tories a gift horse. Also- it’s only 5 weeks to the election so it doesn’t give a lot of time for it to fester.

BackToLurk · 30/05/2024 09:31

LRM was pretty close to Sam Tarry who got his seat when the (less left wing) favourite for it was suspended the day before the selection meeting, by the then Corbyn led party. So you know. Boo hoo

StainlessSteelMouse · 30/05/2024 09:20

Filing away allegations for when they might be useful is how whips and party fixers work. Michael Dobbs did not invent Francis Urquhart out of whole cloth, and the Labour Party doesn't work like an HR department, much as it likes to pretend it does.

I don't think LRM should have been an MP in the first place - Brighton councillor is about his level - but the timing is very interesting. If you're on the Labour left today then your best bet is to do a Rebecca Long-Bailey and stay very quiet in the hope that they'll forget about you.

Agreed. Everyone seems to be assuming that the complaint is politically motivated and a stitch up to get him out. People seem strangely unwilling to believe that the complainant could be a genuine person acting in good faith and coming forward alleging a very serious action by LRM.

This is why victims often take years to come forwards - they know they will be blamed and disbelieved.

It sounds like there is clear evidence. They wouldn’t have suspended him without it.

I’m confused. I was sure he’d said a while back he was leaving parliament at the next election anyway?

LunaNorth · 30/05/2024 08:45

Good. I’m glad to see the back of the spittle-flecked loon.
