That was painful to watch. I almost felt sorry for him. Then I realised how this evasion and dishonesty is an insult to all of us.
How dare this slippery bastard wriggle and evade and dare to ask for our votes?
labour can get to fuck. Smug, patronising, privileged men who think they can fob us off and indulge their idiotic foibles once in power. They’re disgusting.

@Marjoriefrobisher do you mean the op’s link or something else?

Brainworm · 27/05/2024 14:47

"Can someone explain to me how single ‘biological’ sex spaces can be provided if all records of sex identity - passport, driving licence, birth certificate, etc, can be legally falsified?

How can you prove it? Do they want the ‘genital checks’ at the door?"

I don't think anyone is, in good faith, imagining anything like genital checks. Like many laws, they rely on people following the laws (such as wearing a seat belt and not driving under the influence of substances that impact on judgment).

There needs to be an available record regarding everyone's natal sex and this needs to be accessible to those responsible for governing and policing access to single sex provision.

It's not that difficult.

I think all kinds of GDPR issue arise in relation to recording gender identity (in what circumstances is this info NEEDED). In turn, if sex recorded isn't natal sex, again, a case needs to be made as to why we should need to disclose it/ have it recorded.

I think the long term outcome of this will be very few documents recording sex or gender. The gender ideologues will hate that!

Looking forward to seeing this topic discussed on the televised debates leading up to the election.

Viewing figures and media coverage will be high.

Provided the presenter doesn't shut down any debate and/or interrupt or shut down one side.

Do they want the ‘genital checks’ at the door?

Surely no more than was ever the case

I think once Labour are in and they get the majority that is expected they will be able to put through whatever changes they want unimpeded. In Scotland I don’t think the ‘price’ will be self ID, Labour are 100% on board with self ID so they are as eager as SNP, Greens, LibDems. In Scotland the GRR wasn’t compatible with the EQA 2010 so it’s not hard to amend the EQA so be compatible with the Scot GRR. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they get rid of the PC of ‘Sex’ and replace with ‘Gender’ then they can update the GRA so it pretty much mimics the Scot GRR. Where would the pushback come from anyone to stop Labour doing this? Apart from Rosie Duffield, would any other Labour MP vote against these reforms given a three line whip?

WarriorN · 26/05/2024 08:36

My thoughts too

I don't get how Labour are repeatedly allowed to claim that the current GRC process is "inhumane". How is it inhumane, how is it different from anyone else who has to deal with bureaucracy?

because to get one you have to jump through several (not especially onerous) hoops. Can see a hung parliament and the deal will be a minority gov. propped up by the SNP-the price of which will be self ID.

I had almost reconciled myself to voting Labour despite some lingering doubts. Now I just feel I can't but also can't bring myself to vote Tory. I don't know what I'm going to do. It feels hopeless.

This is me exactly

Thelnebriati · 25/05/2024 12:58

At this stage its just insulting. We need a word thats like 'mansplaining', for politicians lecturing people who are better informed than they are.

EasternStandard · 25/05/2024 12:10

ILikeDungs · 24/05/2024 19:46

I listened to some of that.

"We must respect trans identified people" and "We must respect women's need for single sex spaces".

How exactly do you give men who say they are women what they want, AND at the same time give women what they need? How? Smarmy "respect" oozing from every pore but no answer to the dilemma of our time.

Exactly, it’s junk how ridiculous they sound

Can someone ask where men will be with GRC and how

Same annonymousse, I really want to vote Labour but just can't when they talk such utter nonsense on this issue. But I can't vote Tory either and don't want to waste or spoil my ballot, it's so bloody frustrating Angry

Hopefully at some point in the next 6 weeks Labour will be made to show their working out on this one because their sums don't add up.

Yes. This. All day long.

More broadly, sex is a protected characteristic under the Act. How can we prevent sex discrimination on the basis of overall body type (DNA, gonads, and genitals aren't visible to others), if it is no longer aligned with (legal) sex? And no-one is allowed to know whether someone's legal sex has changed. There's just no mechanism for it.

Thought experiment: a company sneakily pays the men more than the women by setting salary to be proportionate to height. They can easily show there's no sex discrimination because they employ many TW, who tend to be tall, and TM, who tend to be short. The TM might be able to sue under the PC of gender reassignment (they're disadvantaged relative to the 'other' men), but the other women are screwed because being 'cis' isn't a PC.

ArabellaScott · 24/05/2024 19:58

Either you let men into women's spaces or you don't. It's one or the other.

Quite!

thryll keep trying to fudge it with safe spaces so hopefully interviewers will wise up to that too

Interviewers have to develop a robust response to these empty answers. Please CN and others, develop a response that makes it clear to people who have not been paying attention that an answer like this is a nonsense.

Do your job thoroughly. It will make much better radio too!

I think a few are going to have a lot of fun with this question.

Presumably Labour are at still at the magical thinking stage of development (usually seen in children under 5) in terms of TWAW etc and are blissfully unaware of the size of the national scandal coming down the track? ? Especially in relation to NHS's experimenting on children at the behest of trans extremist groups?

lol 😂

It mystifies me how so very few political interviewers and journalists have developed the ability to follow this waffle through to the logical negative outcomes. Instead they let the politicians away with spouting platitudes and bunkum; letting them make ridiculous promises that there’s obviously a way to make everyone happy and allowing them to state manipulative nonsense about marginalised people to put guard rails around any attempt at serious discussion or interrogation.

It’s television and radio pablum - no-one in the UK media is intellectually honest enough to dissect this issue on air and lay it all out for the electorate. Journalists’ usage of inaccurate pronouns and terminology to describe these men only confuses issues. And the journalists and politicians scolding women as 'being unkind' when they won’t conform to the 'be naice' rules is infantilising.
