Rape and Hamas and the denial of rape.

There have been a few threads on FWR about this before. I have lurked. We knew and know this is and was happening yet apparently it's okay if it is is happening to Jewish women or Israeli women.

I have long had a horrifying suspicion that the reason why so many of the women and girl hostages have continued to be held is until they are released with the evidential products of their rapes- the babies.

I fail completely to understand how this is being brushed aside and ignored.

Horrifying new footage shows Hamas kidnappers threatening women

WARNING: Graphic content: These are the horrifying first moments in captivity for the five youngest women held in Gaza by sick Hamas fanatics since October 7.

If we are to get the answer to why Oct 7th rapes are ignored then we also need to look at why the girls Rochdale were silenced, it is the same answer.

Really? There is clearly an element of anti-semitism at play when it comes to the denial of sexual violence in relation to the attacks of October 7th that wasn't evident (afaik) in relation to the grooming gangs.

You don’t think race was relevant in Rochdale? Both the race of the victims and the race and religious background of the perpetrators? Same in Cologne in the New Year’s Eve attacks that the Guardian ignored? Can you not see a pattern developing?

Given how much posters on this board dismiss whataboutery generally, there's a lot of it on this thread.
Rape is an act of violence and the wider context for this situation is indeed very complex but these girls need to be freed and to be allowed to go home.

To be fair I was going to post the opposite when posters post of famine and atrocities in Gaza they are asked what about Yemen, Congo etc so it shows it goes both ways. That it is anti Semitic to hold Israel to account when no one is posting about these other countries.

Horrendous video. Those poor women.

Lindos1 · 22/05/2024 20:57

Totally agree OP. I see my daughter in the faces of those poor, poor girls. It is so beyond horrifying, there are just no words really.
I just can't fathom why this isn't on the front pages every day. Where are the feminists? Where are the celebs who are so driven by other political causes?
It just makes absolutely no sense to me.

Sloejelly · 22/05/2024 20:56

No one is suggesting they should not be freed and allowed to go home. But what next for the discussion? What is to be learnt from considering this case in isolation from any other sexual violence in conflict by the many other Islamic terrorist groups? Hamas is not unique. Nor is the line from Hamas to the Rochdale Grooming gangs a long one. If we are to get the answer to why Oct 7th rapes are ignored then we also need to look at why the girls Rochdale were silenced, it is the same answer.

I’ve said this myself many times.

They are either carrying babies or have been butchered.

Or killed in an airstrike. These hostages are human shields. I am holding out hope for them, and cannot imagine the torture from Hamas they are enduring.

I'm not going to comment further on this thread. Bloody awful. I hope those poor girls are freed and are able to come home to heal with their families, and I hope that none of their families see the pure callousness of the whatboutery on this thread.

I feel the same. No point having a discussion on the misogyny of the world that allows rape to be weaponised in war when faced with a poster that has a laser beam focus and cannot even imagine there being a bigger context to consider that explains why and how the denial of Hamas rape has and is happening.

There you go again. In plain sight.

Deal with the topic of the thread. -or start another of your own to discuss what you'd like to discuss, because right now your attitude is simply astonishing and shocking........You seem to want to minismise what happened. Why? Be honest.

I am dealing with the topic of the thread.

Agreeing with OP that rape is ignored and denied in conflicts and it is a universal, global problem by way of explanation that she asked for by asking “how” is not minimising.

She asked a question, I answered it.

InvisibleBuffy · 22/05/2024 20:38

This thread is fucking horrifying and pretty much serves to prove the OPs point.
Highlighting and talking about what is happening to these women and asking for it not to be dismissed is not minimising the rape of anyone else.
Every single one of you complaining that we're somehow minimising other women's experiences by asking for Israeli ones not to be ignored needs to take a long hard look in the mirror.
It occurred to me to report the thread because the obvious antisemitism on here is awful, but I think it should stand. It's better that it is on display where everyone can see it and it can be countered.

Again, you are suggesting that pointing out that other women also suffer extreme sexual violence minimises that suffered by one group? How can you say the comparison minimises Oct 7th unless you think the other victims of Islamic terror groups were somehow less?

Why don’t you deal with the topic of the thread? You are clearly ignoring the OP asked
I fail completely to understand how this is being brushed aside and ignored.

And I am answering her question.

Who made you thread police anyway? Who are you to decide that the denial of rape by Hamas is not a symptom of a larger global issue of the rape of women consistently being ignored?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 22/05/2024 20:35

RebelliousCow · 22/05/2024 20:00

It is true, though. Many People have dismissd ithe rapes and sexual violence, including against children, as propoganda and lies, and continue to do so.

who has???
This is one of the many reasons I want Hamas eradicated and even more so their leaders living the life in 7 star hotels in other countries

RebelliousCow · 22/05/2024 20:34

SpiritAdder · 22/05/2024 20:31

Which cannot be understood without acknowledging the wider context that rape denial is endemic, it is a global issue…not just a Jewish/Israeli issue as the OP explicitly theorized.

We know that!

Deal withn the thread starter - or don't bother to post at all - because you are coming across very badly.

SpiritAdder · 22/05/2024 20:32

RebelliousCow · 22/05/2024 20:25

The topic of this thread is the ongoing denials of rape and sexual violence by Hamas - not by Boko Haram or by Isis ( the yazidi women) or any other extremist terrorist organisation; although have to say I have not seen anyone denying that any of the other above atrocities happened, in the way i have, and continue to see, people engage in evasion when it comes to Hamas.

You seem keen to downplay what happened, why?

Edited

I have seen denials of the other ones. Glad to know you aren’t a denier.

Yes and the OP asked
I fail completely to understand how this is being brushed aside and ignored.

And my answer is because this (rape of women and girls) is always brushed aside and ignored all the time no matter where in the world this happens. Examples then were given. Which mean that the OP saying:

yet apparently it's okay if it is is happening to Jewish women or Israeli women.

Is not quite true because it is equally “apparently ok” for this to also be simultaneously happening to Afghan, Palestinian and Nigerian women and girls right this second.

There you go again. In plain sight.

They are all Islamic terrorist groups. I don’t think that common factor should be ignored. As are the Taliban.

SpiritAdder · 22/05/2024 20:31

The only way this is minimising what happened on October 7th is if you are minimising the horror of sexual violence that women suffer elsewhere. To be raped during war, watch your family murdered, kept hostage, sold into sexual slavery happens in many conflicts and it is always horrific.

LlynTegid · 22/05/2024 20:27

OP, I hope you are wrong with your suspicion but think you may well be right. William Hague amongst many others campaigned against ending rape as a weapon of war and it should never be ignored.

Sloejelly · 22/05/2024 20:26

RebelliousCow · 22/05/2024 20:13

You are clearly minimising what happend on October 7th for politically motivated reasons. That's probably because your view may become a bit more balanced if you accepted the truth of it....

SpiritAdder · 22/05/2024 20:22

Excuse me? I haven’t minimised October 7th. I have “accepted the truth of it” whatever that means.

You could only imagine I am minimising if you think October 7th is worse than the other examples?

Sounds to me like you are minimising by saying the rape/forced marriage/forced birth done to other girls/women is not at all comparable the rape and captivity of Israeli women.

Please tell me, why is it not comparable?

And, I answering why it’s not got much attention, because rape never does.
