Emma Bunton

Emma Bunton has posted a picture tribute for her son Tate's 13th birthday with a hashtag #shesmybaby. The 3 young people pictured all have long hair so my initial thought was 'her son must be trans'.

KJK has posted a video saying if she calls her son she/her then she's a child abuser. Not sure what to make of it. I get where KJK is coming from but child abuser?

I couldn't see any other threads on this.

How many celebrities have trans children now? Off the top of my head Annette Be ing, Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts and Cynthia Nixon all people I admire and A listers. There’s loads more further down the celeb chain it’s like the new celebrity surrogacy, what is going on?

Fair play to Angelina Jolie who actually seemed to support Shiloh be whatever she wanted to be and? Look at her now? A Fantastic individual creative teen who seems well rounded (as she can be 😀) never in the spotlight

Yes, Brad and Angelina clearly have their issues, but they have handled this brilliantly - genuine acceptance of their child.

I deeply regret that someone as experienced and media savvy as Emma Bunton elected to incorporate one of her children as an asset for garnishing her social media profile, exposing that child to the Wild, Wild West of demi/semi/scarcely regulated comment.

newtlover · 10/05/2024 13:59

the problem with KJK's commenting on Emma Bunton's son is just that- she is naming 2 individuals and saying something VERY challenging about them
this is not the way to protect children in general or that child in particular

EB is not going to ponder whT KJK said and think 'oh, wait a minute, maybe there's another way of understanding my son'- as PP said, she may sincerely believe she is doing the best, most loving thing for her son

Fine to say 'some celebrities are using their children to promote themselves, jumping on the trans bandwagon etc ' or whatever else she wants to say- its not OK to accuse a named individual of child abuse in this public way. Yes children's safety is everyones concern, that means if we come across something worrying ourselves (as opposed to a post on SM) we report that appropriately, not publicly slagging off the alleged perpetrator

I agree it makes her look crazy and vindictive, does the GC movement no favours and will shut down thinking rather than open it up.

@Myalternate I believe Tate is the younger of the 2 children in the photo. Beau is her eldest and the one with the long hair. Tate is the one in jeans with shorter hair

So Beau is dressed as a girl ? 🤷‍♀️

Did you meant to say 'aren't pressuring'??

Yes!

I should read before i press send. Too late to edit now.

Datun · 10/05/2024 13:38

Emma Buntin just needs to ask herself, and him, why?

Why do you think you're a girl? Drill down.

Because I like...
Because I feel...
Because I want...

Then recognise the sexism.

ILostMyself · 10/05/2024 13:21

Going along with the idea that your child was “born wrong” rather than getting them the help they need to accept themselves as perfect just the way they are is child abuse.

We all know now that most of these kids will grow up to be gay and also have other underlying co-morbidities. They need help, support and understanding but affirming that lie isn’t the kind thing to do.

EasternStandard · 10/05/2024 13:04

David Bell is excellent on why we shouldn’t say ‘trans child’

There’s no such thing

Cass is excellent for other harms

KJK goes bolder on language but adults won’t prioritise dc in line with any of the above, including the sensible and rational

It’s sad to see

Fukuraptor · 10/05/2024 13:01

I think this stuff harms children. So I understand why KJK feels justified in calling it out. The language is shocking because we associate it with other kinds of harm that are caused by malice or neglect.

Maybe that shock will make some people see it differently. And I think KJK is a grown up, capable of choosing how she wants to express her arguments.

The problem with polarising language though is it is really easy to dismiss. GC women know that we aren't rights hoarding dinosaurs or transphobic bigots. Calling us those things may work somewhat to get other GC women to self censor incase they are misunderstood too, but it doesn't make us think "oh no, you're right, I was banging on about women's safety, dignity and privacy and the harms to children but you got me, none of that matters and I was actually just enjoying being mean to trans people."

Parents who love their children but who have come to understand their child's gender non conformity as a sign they are trans, and see their acceptance of that as an ultimate expression of their love and acceptance of them, aren't going to recognise the harm they are doing their child, or recognise CA as what they are doing.

So accusations like that seem so out of left field that they think you are crazy.

It's like left wing people calling right wing people greedy and selfish, when they may well be as or more generous as individuals but just disagree with government being the best way to help poor people improve their lives. (I am left wing, but I care a lot about understanding why folk think differently and have observed that Conservatives funnily enough don't think they are the bad guys and so criticism of them being evil/uncaring/greedy etc just doesn't stick meaningfully).

It'll be coming from the boy.

I doubt his parents will be rushing him to the gender clinic. Although they've should look at the misogyny and possible homophobia they are exposing him to. Hes not a girl and shouldnt be expecting anyone to go along with his delusion.

I just hope the boy and parents are pressuring the school to prioritise his wants over any girls at the school.

If it's coming from the boy, even more reason not to announce it to the world.

Datun · 10/05/2024 12:11

What I don't get is how she was fine with him being 'gender non-conforming', but now he needs to change sex to make it 'match'?

I bet this is coming from him, and the online pressure that Hilary Cass has correctly identified as a massive issue.

The sooner the people targeting children are exposed, the better.

Emma Bunton probably doesn't know the first thing about it and has probably never heard of Hilary Cass.

KJK isn’t wrong but she’s not going to do the GC movement any good with her tactics.

I think she’s so right about everything BUT she seems to be getting a bit OTT. Her videos lately seem to consist of her posting clips of mostly American women (talking admittedly rubbish and gushing about their “trans child”) and then spending ages mimicking/mocking their accents.

I really hate to say it but she’s starting to come across slightly deranged.

Totally agree. This has been bothering me recently. I think KJK needs to be careful not to lose sight of the reality of the situation, she's coming at this all wrong I think. Shame.

I would love to say what I think on this subject but for some reason it's against talk guidelines, probably illegal, to say the truth about men who dress in women's clothes encouraging little boys to do this. Oh well this has got Emma loads of attention but it's not attention seeking. Wonder if she'll do a hello spread or TV series on how normal and lovely this is. Girl Power!

Yes her son is trans. Calling her a child abuser is pretty ridiculous.

If they are a 13 year old child then no, they are not ‘trans’

KJK needs to watch it or she'll end up in the same place as Laurence Fox.

Omg

Dh has long hair

I'll tell him he's trans

If that's a dig to me, my partner (male) has long hair. It's the calling him 'she' that stuck out for me. The long hair on Tate is no doubt a lazy stereotype because you know, all 13 year old girls have long hair 🙄.
