Are you voting in the next general election purely on the transgender issue?

Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

The whole of Europe has an immigration/asylum crisis at present, with escalating numbers. That wasn't the case when Labour was last in power.

In fact wasn’t it Labour who ‘opened the doors’? Tony Blair. So of course it was labours impact in the following years.

Not only did the "Conservative"🙄 party inflict the trans shitshow on us, they're letting DV perpetrators, burglars, muggers out of jail early, they can't protect sensitive databases or our borders. Which is fucking mental, considering most of the UK is an island.🤯

Apart from the clear fact that it was Labour who inflicted the “trans shitshow” on us via the GRA, what do you think Labour would do about any of the rest? They are very much more pro immigration than the conservatives and liberal towards crime.

Quite

Labour is pro-immigration?

Let's just look at some actual numbers.

Annual net migration in 2010 (under Labour) was 252,000, a then record high.

In 2023 (under the Tories) it was 672,000, lower than the record high of 745,000 in 2022.

Seriously folks, come on.

I don’t deny that the Tories have failed on immigration, and many other things. That is not the question though. The question is will Labour be any better? And if not, who else might be?

RebelliousCow · 09/05/2024 09:27

I read this morning that Ursula Von De Lyon - the EU President - has reportedly been considering using 'third' countries such as Egypt - to deal with the EU immigration crisis.

Needmoresleep · 09/05/2024 09:25

Headline statistics can also be misleading, and may not provide the gotya that the poster was hoping for.

I am not arguing either way but before accepting any argument would want to know whether the former figures include EU citizens using freedom of movement. Later figures won't. Are Ukrainians included in the later figures. Plus turning off the tap, so to speak, can take years. Legislation needs to be in place, would be migrants have to decide that the UK is not the nirvana that it is worth paying traffickers to get to etc. And as Autumn Crow suggests. Other European countries are also struggling.

This is a depressing thread. I'm pleased with the outcome of the Cass Review and I agree with many on here that this is an important issue. However, the Conservatives have attempted to weaponise the "trans" issue and make it out to be the most important issue facing our nation, and I don't think it is, but it seems lots of people have bought what the Conservatives are selling.

You seem a bit late to the issue. This has been a campaign issue for women's groups for many years now...long before the press or even parliament started discussing or highlighting it.

The Conservatives"have bought" what these campaign groups are selling - not the other way around. Though, strictly speaking it is a cross party issue, as there are several outspoken Tory Trans activists; even though it is a central plank of policy commitment for many more Labour MPs.

But you are correct to say that so far it is only Tories who have pushed back against the Trans agenda. Labour has not even really begun to address the issue full on.

As long as they don't vote Conservative I don't mind.

Errr, do you really think anyone here is concerned that you might disapprove of their voting intentions?

This is why I feel politically homeless. For every Penny Mordaunt or Caroline Nokes there is a Lisa Nandy and Dawn Butler or a Wera Hobhouse and Layla Moran and Green / SNP / Plaid nutjobs. Meanwhile Sunak, Starmer, Davey et. al. are all weasel words.

We do have some independents in my region on the local Councils and maybe one or two will stand in the general election, but I did some digging and it turns out they haven't done their homework on issues as crucial as the Cass Report. (And yes this matters for elected members of the Council, as they all become 'the corporate parent', notably for Looked After Children who as we now know are over-represented in the cohort about whom Cass is especially concerned.)

Its the GRA laws that Labour brought in that’s put us where we are, and they want to make it easier to get one but yeah, let’s vote them back in. GTF!

Edited

Absolutely.!
Lets get our history right here!

AGovernmentOfLawsNotOfMen · 09/05/2024 02:38

Initially I thought you were maybe Kier checking us all out 🤪 OP and I was going to direct you to another thread with a MN poster called RishiSunak for a chat 🤣🤣🤣

Waiting to see what Labour come up with along with another issue I find important.
The other issue has no factual evidence that’s it’s going to do the country any good
And Labours lack of understanding of basic keystage3 biology doesn’t either and I’m not losing hard fought for women rights just to give Labour a chance in Government

Im a floating voter ( family historically staunch Labour voters )
I don’t vote because there’s nothing better
I would never spoil my vote, no one relevant sees it, why bother voting at all.

So As things currently stand it looks like I’ll be voting conservative.

For those who are interested in woman's safe spaces there’s another thread with a Govn questionnaire from Kemi Badenoch (spelling? ) asking for evidence of any companies setting illegal or confusing guidance on woman's spaces.

Many people (especially ones with female children, in my experience) will vote for protecting women’s and children’s biological sex rights. This is a complex area, with many issues. Certainly Not a ‘single issue’ 🙄.

So they won’t vote for Labour, who are now known to many, as the party of women haters.

As long as they don't vote Conservative I don't mind.

The Tories are useless fuckers on so many levels. And they don't give a shit about women or children.😡

Tories have been in power for the last 14 years !

The trans issues have got worse over the past 14 years.

Yeah let's vote the tories back in.....🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Yes, but you know what the words mean, everybody knows what the words mean. Nobody checks a dictionary before they say "woman" or "single sex". You, we, as individuals can carry on using them correctly.
Shifting or accommodating just makes their job easier. Don't use their language.

This. We can’t keep shifting the words we use to describe ourselves. I’ve seen TRAs using woman, women, female, adult human female, biological female to describe men who call themselves women. If you use the term biological sex to differentiate TRAs will just claim that men who claim to be women are biologically female. Even if we came up with entirely new words to describe women they would appropriate those.

Rather, keep on using words according to their established meanings.

Unfortunately that doesn’t really work.

According to a well known dictionary I wrote to complain after they described homosexuality as ‘same sex or gender attracted’, they simply record words as they are used in multiple sources including online.

So all the people changing meanings on purpose, establish new meanings. With all the on-line stuff going on the warping and deviation is exponential, and gets written into policy too.

Good grief, that's ridiculous, how can homosexuality apply with a woman and man dressed as a woman. I see what you mean TRAs corrupt language. Do they hate gay people so much they want to eradicate them? I have heard the term 'transing out the gay ' lots of presenting as possible gay boys at school have said they might be female 😥

I think Labour have managed to do the opposite. That is convince many it’s a “culture war”.

Or that it’s a ‘trans issue’

When it’s about women’s sex based rights and basic and fundamental.

Seeing it framed in such a make way is the depressing part, it doesn’t benefit women, or children.

I don't think this thread is that depressing.

Many feminists have said they're not voting Tory. Some have said they're voting purely on the trans issue, but that doesn't mean they're voting Tory. They're probably voting Reform UK or SDP. I think one PP said she was voting for the Communists.Grin

Someone please remind me under which government all these non gender-specific policies have been put into practice throughout institutions? Jeremy Corbyn isn't it? Has he been PM of an anti-woman Labour government for the last 14 years?

It was the Tories @newnamethanks.

ScrollingLeaves · 07/05/2024 23:29

It doesn't matter what terms we use, TRAs will attempt to corrupt them. They are semantics vampires. They know what the words mean - applying different meanings is a deliberate strategy to create confusion, making it impossible for the general public to understand what is going on so that they give up trying.
So don't bother changing your language for "clarity". Rather, keep on using words according to their established meanings.
