Are you voting in the next general election purely on the transgender issue?

Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

The Party of Women will be standing in at least some of the wards in the local elections. I may not have to spoil my ballot.

Teddleshon · 30/04/2024 14:13

I agree the Tories are a shitshow and a disaster but they did commission the Cass report, have now ensured single sex wards in NHS hospitals, barred idiotic terms such as “chestfeeding”, not introduced gender self id, ensured biological men stay out of women’s prisons and much more. Surely it’s inarguable that the situation under Labour, Lib Dem’s or god help us the Greens would have been significantly worse?

Just look at what a better position we are in relative to the US, Australia and New Zealand as far as gender issues are concerned.

SoupChicken · 30/04/2024 14:13

It won’t be the single issue that will make my decision but it will be a big part of how I make my mind up.

MinorDisaster · 30/04/2024 14:11

For me, I'm wondering if it might now end up being about the individual candidates rather than the parties they are affiliated to. Although there's no way I'll vote Lib Dem or Greens.

I'm wondering if, when the general election candidates are announced and I write to them with my list of questions about women's rights (amongst other things), whether I should add one at the end saying something like:
'If your party, regardless of what placatory official words have been said during election campaigning, decides not to fulfil their election promises but revert to doing nothing about, or even supporting, harmful ideologies which hurt women and children, would you be willing to stand up against them in parliament and vote against the party line if necessary?'

Not the exact words yet, but the gist. I need to think about this some more.

We need people in place in all parties who have common sense in abundance, honesty and the guts to see things through, including challenging their own parties rather than protecting their own jobs. We need an effective opposition as well as government. There's so much to put right and the current pool of 'talent' (ha) seems sadly lacking.

The Tory party have had years to sort this out and it's only got worse under their watch. They could have stopped this at any point, but they chose to indulge these men and give away women's rights.

This is totally hilarious thing about thread like this, people forget how long the Tories have been in power, and this all happened under them.

But just because they seem to have miraculously realised what a woman is, at the 11th hour before a general election, everybody goes "oh vote for them!"

Hilarious.

Constantly baffled that people who claim to be single issue voters on this are saying they’ll vote Tory. It’s idiotic. They’ve been in charge for 14 years. They’re responsible for everything that has happened on this issue that you hate. Just because they’re spinning with the wind againer it now - again after FOURTEEN YEARS - doesn’t mean anything, and you’re a fool if you think it does.

They have at least been putting the brakes on a lot of the nonsense. For example stopped Scotland self ID it a pause on the so called ‘banning conversion therapy for LGBT’ Trojan-horse bill, asked if EA needed clarification, allowed it to be said that TW are not the same as women, commissioned the Cass Report.

The GRA lie law was Labour. The badly worded Equality Act was Labour. The intention to make GRC easier to get is Labour. The closing down of discussion with the Labour Women’s Declaration is Labour, only slightly eased since the Cass report.

The Communist Party is ok on this issue think.

MultiPolarista · 30/04/2024 13:02

Yep.
There is nothing between the parties economically or socially except this issue and as I am in the 51% of people who will have their rights stripped, yes, yes I am def voting Tory on this issue.

Which is novel for a hard core leftist, but hay ho.

Really don't agree with this. Smacks of privilege.

Noshowlomo · 30/04/2024 14:09

Yes. Well, the women’s rights issue

CremeBruleeLove · 30/04/2024 14:09

Dandel10n · 30/04/2024 13:01

No. The Labour Party have hugely pissed me off on this issue, but overall I feel that the Conservatives are just so bad for the country and I disagree with them on so many other things that my priority is to vote against them.

This.
For god's sake vote them out!

BrieOnToast · 30/04/2024 14:07

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 30/04/2024 14:05

Yes.

Labour can't win in my constituency so it's a two horse race between the Tories and the Lib Dems.

I'm currently weighing up whether I can afford to spoil my ballot or whether I have to hold my nose and vote Tory for the first time ever to keep the Lib Dem nutter out.

ZeldaFighter · 30/04/2024 14:05

No, I'm voting Labour for other issues such as the economy, the NHS, local services....

greenlettuce · 30/04/2024 14:03

Yes - I think this is a fundamental issue that threatens society and has caused huge damage to impressionable young people and vulnerable adults. I will be voting Conservative for this first time due to this issue.

ManchesterBeatrice · 30/04/2024 14:02

No.

Whereareyourshoes · 30/04/2024 14:02

Yes. I care about many, many issues but reality matters

I will not vote for any candidate of any party who lies that TWAW.

My constituency is likely to be Lib Dem again but they have disgusted me with their attitude towards women’s rights.

Litterpicking · 30/04/2024 14:00

Spoiled my postal ballot by writing next to the Labour candidate "Respect and support women's rights". It's a solid Labour area but I'm hoping someone might glance at the spoiled papers.

ginasevern · 30/04/2024 13:55

Did I just read that correctly? You think the party that has brought the country to its knees over the last 15 years will get it back on track?

Why don't you just be honest and say you are a Tory.

Because Im not, I am a lone parent of a sen child. But I believe in good economics and currently with the gender issues at play, its tipping me in the balance of the Tories as it too is v close to my heart.

Beowulfa · 30/04/2024 13:57

Its just the Twat Olympics

I might write this on my ballot paper, in the (likely) absence of a decent, sensible independent candidate.

As others have said, it's not the "transgender issue". It's a women and girls' rights issue and a reality issue.. Also a looming medical scandal that's going to cost the taxpayer £££££s. I accept there will be guff and bluster from politicians, but I don't expect to be outright lied to, patronised and taken for a fucking idiot.

ginasevern · 30/04/2024 13:55

Lostmum1906 · 30/04/2024 13:25

Yes, I feel the Tories will get the economy back on track and the trans issue is a big deal to me.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/04/2024 13:55

Quite possibly. Look at the thread ‘Sir Kier Starmer on GMB news’
His answers are too obfuscating and stupid to make him a person to vote for as PM.

It is not just about ‘trans’ it is the lying in institutions, the destruction of children's lives, it is the non-speak which means he won’t answer.

This does not necessarily mean voting Conservative for me though and I am not quite sure what to do. I feel angry with them for lots of things too.

newnamethanks · 30/04/2024 13:53

Vote for this bunch of shysters and conmen who have trashed our country? Are you OK?

3peassuit · 30/04/2024 13:49

I’m the mother of a disabled adult. I’m scared that the Tories will make disabled people’s lives even harder. I will vote labour but I’ll hold my nose whilst doing so.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/04/2024 13:47

No. The Tories have had ages to put this right and they have not. I will not chase after their dangling carrot while they fuck over other disadvantaged groups.

Lostmum1906 · 30/04/2024 13:46

sosickofbeingskint · 30/04/2024 13:38

The Tories will get the economy back on track?!! WTF?

Please don't tell me you're still falling for the PR about Tories being a safe pair of hands. That's all it is, PR!

Who has been in power for well over a decade now?

They are responsible for the dire state of the economy!

If the economy is your issue, you'd be mad to vote for these clowns.

Who do you suggest I vote for from a bad bunch?

FoulWrinkledWitch · 30/04/2024 13:45

Yes
