Are you voting in the next general election purely on the transgender issue?

Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

@Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus

Well it depends if women in your area are switched on with regards to the harm being done to children who have mental health issues and get persuaded they might be in the 'wrong body'. The Cass report shows harm done and of all parties the Greens are very pro trans women are women blah blah.

Then depends if people actually want a change of government rather than Tory continuing. The Greens aren't a credible opposition.

Then they bang the drum for all the uncosted expensive environment things. Stop oil love Greens so if you love that type of protest join up.

Solar panels in low light levels in Scotland, madness that is Greens

Shutting roads for cycle paths. If you like that go Greens.

They are thd waifs and strays who love you spend other peoples money on tin pot ideas so never get any power

Labour then.

Gender on a spectrum taught to young people. Are you Barbir or G I Joe. If you don't match one end then you must be in wrong body. Bloody he'll poor kids. No wonder autistic children are the most likely to "change" gender, what chance fo they have

Labour won’t be low taxes. There’s a mismatch between what they are offering and the funding available to do it.

I have found those promises quite empty too.

I’m in a Labour seat that’s a key Green target. Other parties nowhere.

Any advice?

At least write to them to tell them they're madder than a box of misogynist frogs - so they can't pretend everyone is on board the crazy train.

I don't think they will meaningfully either, but I suppose they can probably wrangle some bone to offer the public.

I'm in a marginal Labour V SNP seat. Protecting women's rights is the top issue for me, though not the only one. A few weeks ago there was a Labour stall in my local high street and I spoke to the candidate - I'd say they had a fairly good understanding of the background, and a commitment to protecting single-sex spaces on the basis of sex, though I didn't get the impression it was going to be top of their list if elected. They were very good on some of the other issues I care about (the NHS, housing, job opportunities for young people etc). Overall that's a whole lot better than my current SNP MP who couldn't care less about women's rights and will go along with whatever nonsense comes their way from the transactivist ideologues.

The other evening I got canvassed on the doorstep by a lovely woman wearing a Labour Women's Declaration badge. We talked for ages, and she was completely on top of local and national stuff (Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, the cancelled screenings of Adult Human Female at Edinburgh University, LGBT Youth Scotland in schools, the Cass Review, lesbian erasure etc). She said she wouldn't spend her time canvassing for a candidate if she didn't trust them on sex and gender, and I believed her. As I'm left-leaning and historically a Labour voter, this is good enough for me.

Rachel Reeves has refused to say that she won't raise taxes. I think she has committed to no increases in ni, income tax or vat. But the rest is up for grabs, I suppose.

I think the narrative around benefit cheats and pip clampdowns is going to do some heavy lifting in creating theoretical fresh money to achieve new things but I'm not confident that will materialise in practice.

Taxation is already really high. They don't need to up taxes as much as they need to sort out what is being done with current taxes.

Sometimes it seems like they are completely reversing their policy approaches.

But I suppose, they aren't likely to have enough money to spend on things like the NHS anyway, so they are limited as far as financial relief they could offer people. So low taxes it is.

I'm not sure they're promoting themselves as the party of LOW taxation. Just the party of no higher than the massively HIGH taxation we have now.

Interesting that Labour are now promoting themselves as the party of low taxation.

my dilemma is my seat is a lib dem / Tory swing seat.

Tory woman who is a bit wet, sound on women's rights vs Lib Dem new candidate who looks to be OK, but very silent on women's issues so far.

no matter how good this new candidate is - I really don't want the Lib dems to have any balance of power in the new parliament. They are totally captured.

Up until now it's been an easy choice to lend the lib dems my vote to try and keep the Tories out.

I'm in exactly the same situation.

DuesToTheDirt · 05/06/2024 18:38

I emailed my SNP MP around the time of Westminster proposing to quash the GRR bill. Didn't get any reply.

He was on my doorstep the other day, and when he asked if I'd consider voting for him, I said no, because I valued women's rights. He said he did too (though of course "trans people are vulnerable" Hmm), but I pointed out he'd never replied to my email on the subject... Well, it might have been him that ignored it, or it might have been some gender-obsessed intern, but he knows why he and the SNP have lost my vote.

I emailed our Labour candidate and she doesn't want to discuss the issues surrounding the meaning of sex in the Equality Act or the impact of the GRC on the ability of men to be legal women and enter women's spaces.

She doesn't care that she has lost my vote as a result of her lack of interest in women's issues.

Very disappointing.

Eugh for you

They won’t discuss it as women don’t matter

Wow
A Labour candidate who doesn’t care about 51% of her voters !

HelenaTranscart · 05/06/2024 12:35

The Women's Rights Network are tweeting where candidates stand on the gender issue so useful to see what yours are saying. But it's great to ask them the questions as it'll let them know it's important and can't be dismissed.

In general, Reform and Tory are gender critical, while Labour, Lib Dems, SNP and Greens are captured, but there are outliers and independents.

I'm not right leaning but cannot vote for the captured parties, so guess I'll hold my nose and vote strategically to hopefully keep the Scottish Nasty Party out.

I know. I replied to that email with a similar response with some specific questions, she didn't even bother to reply.

I wonder if someone like sex matters could do a freedom of information request to find out how many people are being ignored like this?

I got zero response from the police crime commissioner in the last election. It's beyond a joke.

I wonder how many other issues it's acceptable to tell constituents that they can't be arsed to think about the issue raised/?

To me what would be more of a worry would be a hung parliament with Labour propped up by the Lib Dems. That would be the worst case scenario on the gender front. Although you're probably right too re the massive majority.

Oh don't even think it 🫣

Dandel10n · 05/06/2024 11:55

Zita60 · 05/06/2024 11:30

Sadly, I agree. I think another 5 years of Tory government would probably wreck the NHS beyond repair. And there would be other problems if the Tories get back in. But I am worried about what Labour will do on the gender issue, especially if they have a massive majority.
