Are you voting in the next general election purely on the transgender issue?

Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

Exactly this. We can't bloody say anything about women's rights without it being twisted round to "trans people's rights" again.

We know why 🤷‍♀️

Do you lot never get tired of gaslighting? There’s everything wrong with that statement. Whenever they are asked about women’s rights they always twist it round to focus on trans women and the non existent trans women murder epidemic 🙄

Purely? Of course not. So much needs fixing here and there is a genocide happening abroad which our government is supporting. But it has partially informed my vote. I'll be voting green for the first time as a lifelong labour voter.

Edited

Why would you vote Green over Labour?

Green are even worse on gender woo.

@Dineasair

So far I have quoted the Times, Telegraph, Independent and the Sun.

Fairly sure the Guardian and Mirror would have covered these stories but they'd be dismissed as leftist nonsense.

This is what Starmer actually said.

Not what you think he said, or surmise he meant.

You are spouting alarmist nonsense.

And have the cheek to accuse me of gaslighting.

I read the daily mail one but I don’t think it says what you think it says. I can’t access the others but I don’t think that they will contradict that one. He again goes on about people “being born in the wrong body” whatever the hell that even means. Who’s body have they got then? Who is walking around in the bodies that were supposed to be theirs? How did they get them?

Rosie Duffield told the Daily Mail on the 1st of May that Keir Starmer hasn’t even spoken to her let alone apologised for what the party he is leader of put her through. Why have Labour GC women been denied a stand at the party conference yet again? It’s just more smoke and mirrors.

No one is born in the wrong body, absolutely no one, and no women has ever had a penis and certainly not a functional one attached to a fully functioning male reproductive system, not one, not ever.

Presumably he still considered that there is a small minority of non-biological women who have a penis?

There's no such thing as a 'non-biological' woman though.

maximum gaslighting here, you know exactly what that means. This is the usual twisted view that because we are biological beings then trans women are biological females, they are absolutely not. They are biological males and not females at all, and they never will be, no matter what they cut off or have surgically added. Natal women absolutely are biological women.

Dineasair · 04/05/2024 16:57

AhNowTed · 04/05/2024 12:49

"Presumably" is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Where he said "There's a small number of people in this country who are born into a gender they don't identify with and they often go through pretty hellish abuse.

There is nothing wrong with this statement. Who you feel about your identity doesn't make you female.

And let us not forget that Labour in Scotland whipped their MSPs to vote for the Gender Recognition Reform Bill

This! And they all voted for the Hate Crimes act, which we all know was intended to act like a scolds bridle to shut GC women up. Thank goodness JK Rowling scuppered that one.

@Polishedshoesalways

Where has Starmer said any of those things.

This is just scaremongering nonsense.

And yes I can have empathy for folks.

Do not put words in my mouth that this somehow means I would support putting rapists in a female prison.

You are making huge assumptions based on nothing.

Polishedshoesalways · 04/05/2024 14:11

AhNowTed · 04/05/2024 13:22

@Polishedshoesalways

I agree with you, and folks like Sharron Davies. Absolutely.

And I'm voting Labour, which (for the umpteenth time) is not at odds with my beliefs.

One can have sympathy for a small number of trans folks, and still hold this position.

No. The two do not sit hand in hand at all.

You can’t say you sympathise with the trans position and put convicted rapists in female prisons. It is not conducive with keeping women safe at all!
To strip us of our identity so the law can’t even recognise or protect us is not in line with your beliefs? But you are doing nothing to support our safety.

And you will vote for a party wholeheartedly on board with doing this to women. Well done you 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just seen local turnout for the council elections.

In 2021 turnout was 36%.
This year its 29%.

Thats woeful and speaks volumes about EVERY party.

I don’t know a single person that voted, our polling station was empty all day.

@AstonsDataThief

An adult female with a cervix.

July 2023.

A woman is “an adult female”, Sir Keir Starmer has said, as he confirms the Labour Party's hardened stance on gender. The Labour leader said he did not believe the policy of self-identification was “the right way forward”, and that he believed that “the principle of safe spaces is very important for women”.

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/07/26/keir-starmer-woman-is-adult-female-labour-hardens-stance/#:~:text=A%20woman%20is%20%E2%80%9Can%20adult,is%20very%20important%20for%20women%E2%80%9D.

And yet the Labour women were refused a stand at the conference yet again, and Rosie Duffield and the rest of the woman who won’t accept that men can be women have not received an apology. There have been no consequences to the people who threatened them and Starmer hasn’t even spoken to Rosie Duffield since, it’s all hot air and gaslighting.

Where he said "There's a small number of people in this country who are born into a gender they don't identify with and they often go through pretty hellish abuse. There is nothing wrong with this statement. Who you feel about your identity doesn't make you female.

There is plenty wrong with that statement. It doesn't make sense, for a start. No one is born into a gender — gender is a social construct. The fact that these words passed his lips indicates that he has no idea that sex and gender are two entirely different things. If you genuinely think there's nothing wrong with those words then I'm guessing you don't understand either.

It also seems to be predicated on the idea that everyone has a gender, or gender feelings, that they identify (or not) with. We don't. I don't, most of FWR and all the women I know don't 'feel' themselves to be female. They just are female, and they understand that just because they have XX chromosomes which dictate a female body doesn't mean they have to be nurses or mothers or caring or 'nice' or like wearing high heels and make-up or want to have sex with men.

Maybe you missed this bit

He added: "Everybody knows there is a difference between sex and gender. I absolutely understand that and respect that. We will not be going down the road of self identification."

@MuddlingMackem

Misogyny in the Labour Party? What do you mean.

Of Labour MPs, 51% are women. More than half.

Tory MPs, 26% are women.

Zonder · Today 07:06
Thanks for that @MuddlingMackem I hope this gets seen by the people suggesting the three female PMs are proving how pro women Tories are.

In response to both of these posters, yes, Labour's misogyny is shocking. So they have a majority of women MPs - but did those women get there on merit, or virtue signalling women-only short lists in safe Labour seats? My local MP is a woman, in a phenomenally safe Labour seat. I don't rate her at all. Plus, the attacks on Rosie Duffield by her own party, and as a later poster pointed out she received so many viable threats she wasn't able to attend her own party's conference. They, as a party, appear to have no respect for women.

The Tories, not a feminist party by any means, but at least they acknowledge what a women is which means that we as a sex class are able to campaign for women. That just wouldn't be possible under Labour's approach to gender-woo.

Well said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I assure you I am 100% a 59 year old menopausal woman, who has run the gauntlet of harassment and assault my entire life.

So why not acknowledge that? And the lack of safety around real women and the dismantling of their legal rights is a fucking disgrace that we will not allow to happen.

Wanna try being a real woman Ted and see what it’s actually like to have real abuse targeted at you because of your sex? Or your breasts etc.

And let us not forget that Labour in Scotland whipped their MSPs to vote for the Gender Recognition Reform Bill

Which Starmer criticised.

"Later that day Starmer explained that the fierce row over gender recognition changes in Scotland had caused him to reflect. He criticised the “cavalier” approach of the Scottish government to introducing a system of self-identification for those who wish to change their legal sex, which was ultimately supported by a majority of MSPs from all five Holyrood parties."

amp.theguardian.com/society/2023/aug/03/keir-starmer-policy-split-scottish-labour-gender-recognition

This is all getting a bit desperate.
