The Grauniad on a damaging “reality” show

Another slanted take from The Guardian on a trans story. It seems to me that the main take from this sad tale should be that lying, or concealing the truth, has consequences. But the article doesn’t really mention that angle.

‘She was tough, but it broke her’: why There’s Something About Miriam was reality TV’s most shameful low

From Miriam being ‘revealed’ as a transgender woman to the contestants trashing the set, it was the cruellest reality show ever. Ahead of a new series about its tragic fallout, Miriam’s brother and friend open up for the first time about her death

I thought the point that the boys had each other but she had noone was well made.
They were all victims in this, but in my opinion it was worse for her because she had no support and also was blamed for her role.

Also interested in the brief comparison with Nadia Almada. Nadia really does put the lie to the line "you can always tell". She totally passed .

I didn't feel sorry for him at all. He set out to make fools of these young men and he loved doing it. That smug litte smile of his was nauseating.

Signalbox · 09/05/2024 20:51

Just watching the Miriam documentary now. Why am I not surprised that Miriam had a deeply homophobic father who subjected Miriam to religious conversion therapy because he didn't want a gay son and that Miriam was bullied by h* peers because * was a feminine boy who preferred to play with the girls.

Susie Green's TED talk is

She keeps trying to take it down. Wonder why?

Although it is useful to be able to see the original to confirm the story about the husband's reaction to his child playing with toys, it nonetheless includes a claim about suicide among LGBT people which has been used to scare parents, and everyone in a position of responsibility for children and young people.
Republishing the entire video in this way means that people may take it at face value, believing, and being scared by, the suicide claims. There is also a risk of young people identifying with the suicidality claim.
For this reason it may be right for the video to be taken down.

So telling for all the lurkers. Is Butterfly upset that parents had their child castrated at 16, because they had decided at two that he was gay? Nope. The real offence in Butterfly’s eyes is correctly stating the child’s sex.

The child was lying in the hospital bed for one reason only which was that his sex was male but his (pronoun for the male sex pre-nonspeak ) parents wanted all traces of that removed or disguised by surgery.

Misgendering in relation to that past state of an operated upon little boy is nothing compared to what the child was actually put through illegally by his parents and doctors.

Parents similarly taking their daughters abroad for what is called in law Female Genital Mutilation would be prosecuted on their return.

If I were speaking to him,
or about him, within his social group, I would call him by his feminine name when speaking to him, and use his assumed feminine gender pronoun when speaking about him.

In the context of this discussion though, speaking about him as the child he was, I will not comply with that demand. I will not refrain from speaking about the child’s sex.

Remember my original post was a response to a clip of his mother laughing about his small penis and the operation it was being subjected to. I am not going to be like a journalist writing about ‘her penis’.

Perhaps our usual disruptor could refrain from asking other posters to lie.

You can believe what you like about yourself but that doesn't mean I have to join in. You can't hide from reality.

I think ScrollingLeaves is referring to Jackie's sex rather than Jackie's gender.

Being forced to use the same language for the very different concepts of sex and gender is undoubtedly confusing and from time to time distressing, isn't it?

Such a shame the trans movement choose to go down that path Instead of allowing us to recognise and respect both sex and gender.

Humans sometimes seem to think the strangest things are a good idea. She really must think she’s being reasonable or she wouldn’t dream of laughing like that.

I bet she looks at other practices of various kinds around the world, or in history, involving the body and thinks of those as being barbaric.

The most upsetting thing is seeing that young boy in the hospital bed smiling innocently and feeling what really?

Those women discussing his private body to a camera are obscene.

Could you please refrain from misgendering her?

Cailleach1 · 01/05/2024 13:21

AdamRyan · 27/04/2024 23:02

That wasn't butterflys point I don't think.
I thought their point was that someone close to you coming out as trans is almost like a bereavement or a trauma, it shakes the foundations of you and your relationship. And therapy helps to manage that.

I saw butterfly as being empathetic tbh. Would be nice if we could just take posts with noble intent, rather than implying a malevolent agenda.

As, someone on this thread pointing out huge holes in a post was spat at as being ‘bitchy’, I think that carefully presented veneer comes off every so often.

For those so enamoured of such religiosity as gendered souls, ‘The truth shall set you free’ might be a more suitable principle to live by.

I like to think we live and learn. Truth is always better than a pile of lies, but I know some people don’t care about the truth. That is before reflection on the greater abuse of the majority of the population this ideology brings with it. Abuse and malignant consequences for women and children so easily batted aside. No matter how many people pretend, and promulgate the notion, how so much more vulnerable and sensitive the truly marginalised men are. (Not vis a vis women and children, they’re not). Even in that so, so, so allegedly vulnerable, special state, allegedly marginalised men still behave and commit crimes in the same numbers as … well, other men.

To steal from ‘The Outlaw Josey wales’; the gender politburo and their party faithful are pissing down women’s and children’s backs and trying to push the propaganda that it’s raining.

That’s just my perspective on it all. Rather oddly, I’m not willing to put our rights on a burning pyre to accommodate men’s sense of their superior entitlements. I care about women and children, though. And, regard women and children as having a right to parity of esteem and consideration.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 01/05/2024 11:36

I got deleted for using the word T**f, I assume. I think the mod missed the irony.

NotBadConsidering · 01/05/2024 08:55

Ooh a deletion for me. Was it for pointing out a poster’s inconsistency in their self reporting of their wellbeing or for using the word castrated?

If it was for the former, I’m sure it won’t be the last time such inconsistencies come up.

If it was for the latter, I would point out that the words castration/castrated appear in WPATH’s Standards of Care version 8 a total of 36 times. It’s official transgender language to describe the removal of testicles, I’m afraid.

And Susie laughing about her son's tiny penis, caused by puberty blockers. Totally normal to discuss your teenage child's genitalia in public, obviously.

Choice extract from the transcript:

On Jackie wanting "girls' toys".

Jackie's dad struggled and he blamed me. His thoughts were that because I allowed the Polly Pocket and the My Little Pony that I was facilitating and encouraging and I disagreed and it caused tension. I had come to the conclusion with, over sort of the the sort of years up until she was about two was that I had a very sensitive quite an effeminite little boy who was probably gay but Jack's dad did not approve of our child's effeminate behaviour.

The child is two at this point. Two.

Just going to say that the placebo effect is real.

A fantastic article was written on this. Butters won’t read it though and consider any self reflection as to whether it applies to Butters:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9886596/

Is this a high quality study?

Oh wait. In Transworld the quality is totally irrevelant. So yeah, we can't discredit it. Except to say 'its transphobic'.

But yeah, the evidence coming out about positivity about transition 'wearing out' a few years down the line is something to watch to see if a pattern starts to form. That would suggest a potential inital placebo having 'achieved the goal' only for reality and sideeffects to kick in. The biggest potentially being issues with relationships and having children which for a cohort who were in their teens when they transitioned could have 15 to 20 years to come out in the wash.

I'm sorry but I refuse to lie about one of the treatments that have been instrumental in positively affecting my quality of life, and I refuse to demonise those who compassionately allowed me to access them.

You also refuse to qualify your statements.

If we take you at your word, you are only a positive data point for the "treatment" for male children.

Puberty is the peak time for bone development in girls. Even using puberty blockers for their original use, to postpone puberty for a limited period of time, is reported to have had catastrophic effects on bone health in adulthood for women. This has been pointed out to you over and over. Yet you continue to dismiss the poor health outcomes for women because you believe puberty blockers worked well for you.

What kind of person does that? Such self-centredness might be excusable in a child but not an adult, and as you keep telling us, you are an adult.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/04/2024 13:04

Beowulfa · 30/04/2024 11:53

Puberty blockers are being rebranded as "endocrine support" I see.

Of course, because ordinary people have now started to wake up to the fact that it is specifically young children who are the target recipients of this horrifying form of so-called “trans healthcare”.

Weedkiller of children’s future fertility, flourishing healthy bodies, and flowering minds.
