Has she really blocked JKR or was that a joke on Twitter?

Ah. Could the beetroot actually be raspberries and the mayo really be double cream? That would work for me.

That's a combination I could cope with.

They were indeed,cutted up small.

It really is. It is a sweet white variety.

OK! I thought it was developed from mangels.

I was under the impression mangel(wurzel) was an old word for swede (the vegetable). If off to google now.

It didn't look like that,it was all mushed up with something that looked like mayonnaise.

Okay, yeah, that sounds revolting!

There was a bowl of pear and beetroot salad at my aunt's wake,it was putrid.

I imagine freshly made it would be quite nice. I don't imagine if it was prepared the night before or the morning of the funeral that it would look or taste that great by the time of the wake 😶

WickedSerious · 26/04/2024 17:42

I'm afraid I didn't ask for the recipe.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/04/2024 14:36

I'd quite like to try that, actually.

I have more of an issue with the goat's cheese. It's all...goaty.

You make that sound as if it were a bad thing.

I’m not saying it’s bad but, of all the delicious things cheese can taste like, goat is just…meh.

Took them all morning, quizzing me, working it out, and through alot of personal denial to work out that sugar is made from beetroot and all this time, they never knew.

Sugar beet isn't exactly beetroot, but pink sugar sounds cool!

It really is. It is a sweet white variety.

Candy beetroot!!

How have i got to my fifties unaware of all these different varieties of beetroot?!?

You just know once you boil that it’ll all be pink/purple. I say this as a beetroot champion. I can’t lie. The purple gets everywhere.

SinnerBoy · 25/04/2024 14:59

Who ya gonna call? Goat Busters!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 25/04/2024 14:56

The goats.

I've had Turkish yoghurt and beetroot dip a few times and it's delicious.

Goats cheese is tolerable if it's been rolled in herbs and stored in olive oil for a while, but I've never bought any and just ate some I was given. Even then I only ate it because I like the goats who provided the milk.

Beetroot & Yogurt Dip Recipe | Greek Beets Dip

This beetroot and yogurt dip is so refreshing with a tangy taste from the yogurt and beets. It's so delicious and ready in just 15 minutes! You could serve it with some bread, veggies or some grilled meat. Enjoy!

I make a lovely yoghurt based gratin with beetroot and feta cheese, after having similar on holiday on a Greek island a few years ago. Quite fancy it now!

SidewaysOtter · 25/04/2024 14:42

It tastes like dirt and the only reason it’s faintly tolerable with goats cheese is that the goats cheese mostly drowns it out.

You’re trying to distract us with your talk
of Australian holidays, candy striped varietals and goats cheese.

We shall not be swayed.

It tastes like dirt and the only reason it’s faintly tolerable with goats cheese is that the goats cheese mostly drowns it out.

I’ve grown 3 varieties. I’ve tried it roasted, baked, picked, raw, in salads, in dips, in cakes and in soups. I have given the damned stuff every opportunity and advantage possible.

It still tastes like dirt.

oooh! how was Darwin? i was last there in 1996 (I think) and was quite enchanted by it. But tiny and small and almost village-ey.

I thought it was quite large, I was staying on Knuckey Street and there was plenty nearby, the heat was a bit brutal for me. I went from near freezing to 33° and high humidity. I don't think I had a bad meal and loved the barramundi.

I went to Crocasaurus Cove, it was fantastic. I bought my (then 10 year old daughter a crocodile bucket hat, after asking size advice from a young woman assistant, who was from Buckinghamshire.

I got back and gave it to her, whereupon it turned out that it was for a baby!
