Shocking interview on BBC Radio Scotland this morning. . Interviewee passionate about stopping his 10-year-old daughter’s puberty after deciding she was a boy before she could talk.

It's shocking, it's gaslighting. Bbc should be safeguarding children. WTF?

I hope @Pitta567 isn't confusing sex with gender. To do so is to erase the experiences of trans people.

There's no way on God's green earth that a preverbal baby with no understanding of what sex she is was upset at being called a girl.

This is reminiscent of the shit about baby boys opening their vest poppers to make a 'dress' or baby girls pulling clips out of their hair. Just utter bullshit.

Do you have children? If you agreed with all the daft nonsense they come out with you'd completely destabilise them and their understanding of the world. We can play along with a 3 year old who's being a cat, but we don't buy her some dreamies and take her to the vet to get her spayed.

It's abusive to tell children their bodies are wrong. Fucking end of. All children are perfect just the way they are.

Totally.
It's reported that I was completely opposed to any aspect regarded as 'female ' as a young child. I refused to wear dresses/ pinks, pastels, flowers/ have long hair/ dolls (I bit the face off of one apparently 😅) etc, preferring football/ climbing trees/ short-hair/ trousers & calling myself a boy like my brother. In the 70s, I was just referred to as a tomboy, & left to be me in a football strip.

Thank fuck, because in the 2020s I might be on the waiting list for The Sandyford- and rather than getting my pill from there (like we did in the 90s, I'm from Glasgow) I'd have my fertility removed fucking completely!

I have lived a very standard female life, including a marriage, a divorce & 3 children, still rocking a great short hair-do with an appreciation of great shoes.

It's fucking madness.

Do you think trans kids don’t exist?

By "trans" do you mean children that want to change the sex of their bodies, or something different?

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 23:08

People do change sex

lonelywater · 20/04/2024 23:07

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 23:04

I think there is obviously a transition time. After a lot of consideration I definitely think they can be treated as the opposite sex to that assigned at birth

Of course they can be treated thus. the question is should be and why? Since no one has ever changed sex, what exactly does this "transition" consist of?

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 23:04

I think there is obviously a transition time. After a lot of consideration I definitely think they can be treated as the opposite sex to that assigned at birth

Boombatty · 20/04/2024 22:54

Do you think trans children are no longer their birth sex @Pitta567 ?

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:33

So you don’t think that a child can be trans. Got it

CactusBasket · 20/04/2024 22:30

Of course the child is upset if she's been lied to for years that she can be a boy by wishful thinking. It's a nightmare that should not have been allowed to happen.

Do I think "trans children" exist? Children who believe themselves to be the opposite sex exist, if that's what you mean. The question is why. And the answers vary. They still are actually their birth sex and we shouldn't be lying to them about that.

Boombatty · 20/04/2024 22:28

Even if the Dad is right. And I don't think he is. It doesn't mean she should be given drugs that cause serious medical issues like osteoporosis and lower IQ and that's only the ones we know about so far. What if she changes her mind when she's 16 and accepts and is happy being a girl? Have you read about Keira Bell's experience @Pitta567 ?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/04/2024 22:28

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:22

Do you think trans kids don’t exist?

I'd hazard a guess you're not a parent Pitta?

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2024 22:27

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:18

what about shaking their head or crying when you say something like “my gorgeous girl”. Not just once, OBVIOUSLY but if it happened repeatedly you’d notice it.

Preverbal. How would a child express upset at being referred to as a girl when they are pre verbal? We are talking under a year old.

Esgaroth · 20/04/2024 22:23

Babies don't know what boys and girls are. A baby on the verge of talking only realised their mother is a separate person to them a few months ago.

You'd have to be a complete moron to think your baby didn't want to be a girl.

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:22

Do you think trans kids don’t exist?

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:20

I suppose depends on the kid

What is a 12 months old concept of boy and girl?

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:16

Yeah but nursery age is 3, obviously he could talk by then

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:15

Look, monsters aren’t real but trans kids are real. Imagine nobody listening to you when you feel something so so much. Conversations and a lot of understanding from parents is what’s needed.
do you not think that kids can be trans?

GCITC · 20/04/2024 22:12

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 21:25

The man gave a very honest account of his situation. Everyone here seems to have heard him say that he started to treat his child as a boy before he could talk but HE DID NOT SAY THAT!!!
he said that his child showed signs of distress when being referred to as female, very different thing. He did not say that from then on he was treated as a boy.
the man is clearly a very attentive father who pays attention to his child.
I applaud him. All he asked for was that each case should be looked at individually, who can argue with that?!?

His direct quote was, "My son, from an extremely young age, so, before he could talk, showed that he was visibly upset by being referred to as a girl...he has lived as a son all the way through his life, through nursery and primary school."

AuContraire · 20/04/2024 22:12

Oh wow, someone's actually come along to defend him.

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2024 22:12

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 21:48

I think any good parent can pinpoint what is upsetting their child especially if it’s repeated. Do you not agree that it should be case by case though?!?

How would this man have known his child was upset by being a girl if she was pre verbal? What would be the indications, can you suggest some specifics?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/04/2024 22:11

Pitta567 · 20/04/2024 22:00

That’s just your opinion. Others might say that children’s views should be respected especially if it’s causing them to be upset. You have absolutely no basis to say that the child was gaslit. Zero!
are you saying that children who are trans should not be taken seriously? Maybe you don’t know about the amount of trans kids that actually take their own lives

Adults have a responsibility to safeguard children. We don't let 10 year olds smoke, get tattoos, have sex, drive and a host of other adult actions.

No society should allow children to harm their bodies, give up their future fertility, sex lives, physical and mental health - no matter how much a small number of adults demand that this happens.

Sad, upset, mentally unwell children need love, attention, care, parenting, along with relevant qualified therapeutic support.
They don't need activists telling them their bodies are wrong.

I thought Munchausens by proxy too. One thing I wonder is how many cases existed like this that just weren't publicized because it wasn't trendy yet. I bet a lot of nasty things went on behind closed doors.
