One of my 3 year olds thinks there’s a monster under his bed 😟 it’s very real to him so he’ll get into his brother’s bed to protect him. (that’s his reasoning)
Children have such vivid imaginations as they’re trying to make sense and understand the world around them.
They’ve no concept of what is and isn’t real and as parents it is our role and responsibility to help and guide them till they’re mature enough to make sense of it all.

If my dad could have transed me, he would’ve. He really didn’t rate women as fully human, and didn’t want daughters.

I hope this guy isn’t trying to ‘trade up’. Agree that the BBC shouldn’t be giving out this kind of message without any balance or evidence.

@wonderstuff Sorry your son couldn't be Spiderman, but I have to say I'm not surprised because my son is actually Spiderman. He says I'm the only one he's trusted with his secret identity but on an anonymous forum it's probably OK to tell. He is very clear on the point that he is not pretending to be Spiderman, he is Spiderman. Of course I am very honoured that he trusted me with his truth.

If by "trans kid" you mean "a child born with a girl's body who is actually a boy", then no, no such kids exist. If you mean "a girl whose parents wanted a boy", then, yes, such kids do exist. (Do you agree?)

There are different ideas about what a trans kid might be, don't you see, @Pitta567? So really your question as it stands can't be answered. Please try to say what you think a "trans kid" is, then you might begin to understand more about what's at stake here.

(Oh, and "monsters aren't real" you said earlier. Depends what you mean by "monster", again, of course. For instance some would say only a real monster would deliberately sterilise his daughter with off-license drugs at the age of ten. What d'you think?)

I respect my children's views. However I know that they are children, that one of my primary roles as their parent is to keep them safe. That doesn't include lying to them and putting them on life changing unproven medication.

I'm going to predict a response along the lines of "biology is really complicated and you lot don't understand it" and/or "why are you obsessed with genitalia". Probably with a sprinkling of bigot and transphobe.

It is a child abuse not letting a child grow up naturally. That family need investigation for what they have done and what their future plans for their daughter

People should write in and make it clear to the bbc this is abuse that they have let someone speak about at length and will be a prosecutable crime once the evidence advances (which will be because of innocent children victims like this)

For a really long time, a couple of years maybe my son believed he would grow up to be Spider-Man, he would talk in detail about how he could turn into spider man and get very upset at the idea it wasn’t going to happen. Kids have vivid and enduring fantasies. They role play different versions of their future self, they create elaborate scenarios and plans. Sometimes we go with them, sometimes we challenge them. What we don’t do is start medical intervention, because kids can’t consent to it, puberty is sometimes upsetting and scary, growing up is difficult, but normal puberty shouldn’t be negotiable.

But when parents are actively saying they will get get illegal drugs to hurt their children it’s is not a laughing matter and a parent feel’emboldened to say it on national radio these parents should be investigated

Do you think it's fair a child has been lied to pitta? Because that's what has been happening for the whole of this child's life. That child won't have a memory of being anything but a 'boy' if they were 'transitioned' before they could speak.

That child cannot understand that they aren't and never will be the same as other boys.

I see major, major psychological issues coming along for that poor child. Either they will have to face the fact they are not a boy and develop as a normal girl, or horrifyingly they will go on to puberty blockers privately, then testosterone and never have the chance to have a biological child or to have a healthy adult body.

There's just no point trying to have a rational conversation with someone who thinks people can change sex.

1. People do not "change sex". That is impossible.
2. I see you're avoiding the question, but are you a parent?
3. I have children, and neither of them had a very clear concept of sex even at 6. When preverbal, they had absolutely no idea. None.

Legal sex, yes; actual sex, no.

Children cannot change legal sex or actual sex.

Put very simply, no one has ever changed their birth sex.
Some poor soul may think it’s possible but a rational minded person knows it’s impossible.
