Thank you Hilary Cass for bringing sense and sunlight. I can’t believe there was no holistic approach in the treatment of gender-questioning children. I’m not a doctor but even I know that you have to treat the patient as a whole person, not just look at one issue they may have. It’s devastating that so many children have been let down due to the silencing tactics and culture of fear created by trans rights activists.

I hope David Tennant’s “leave trans kids alone you absolute freaks” T-shirt emerges from the back of his wardrobe to haunt him. Yes, you freaks, leave kids alone, because only a fully grown, mature adult is equipped to make life-changing decisions and opt for irreversible surgery and hormone treatments. Children cannot make that decision and it is shameful that this ideology has been pushed so hard in schools and focused so heavily on the young and impressionable.

What’s the difference between a transboy and a tomboy anyway? How do we define that? I was a tomboy, and as a pre-pubescent child I wished I was a boy. Was I trans? No, just a gender non-conforming female. Thank the lord nobody ever tried to “affirm” me.

Transactual seems to be claiming that “evidence was discarded” (no, not by GIDS, sillies!), without specifying further. Not holding my breath.

Ugh

It is disappointing that the Cass Review will not, overall, accomplish its stated goals of ensuring a high standard of care for young people who need gender identity support and instead pulls the UK further from international best practices.

Given that international best practices these days is basically WPATH I'm glad the NHS will be forced to pull further away from it.

And that's only the first paragraph!

“Cass said that “online influencers” had played a key role in fuelling confusion among young people about their gender identity and what they needed to do to change it.
“We haven’t done a comprehensive search but certainly when we were told about particular influencers I followed some of those up. Some of them give them very unbalanced information.
“And some of them [young people] were told that parents would not understand so that they had to actively separate from their parents or distance their parents. All the evidence shows that family support is really key to people’s well being. So there was really some dangerous influencing going on,” she said.”

From The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/10/thousands-of-children-unsure-of-gender-identity-let-down-by-nhs-report-finds

All excellent from Cass,
I expect she didn’t have time to look into Charities, MPs, Lords, Film “stars” etc because they have been just as influential.

Yes but predictably the article starts by finger pointing and blaming ‘both sides’ with their photo caption stating: "Dr Hilary Cass said care was made difficult to provide by the way in which opposing sides had ‘pointed to research to justify a position, regardless of the quality of the studies"

Throwing in for good measure a couple of references to the ‘polarised’ and ‘toxic’ public debate without acknowledging it was only ever toxic on one side of that #nodebate.

And of course the inevitable quote from the counter viewpoint, here of Dr Aidan Kelly who is quoted saying PBs are safe and effective according to a German study and that the UK is out of step with the rest of the fucked up world.

Breathtakingly irresponsible even for the Graun in light of the Cass Report having just been published to send the message no keep going ahead with destroying your physical health.

Thank you to all the women on mumsnet who have refused to be silenced on this issue. What a shame this report was released so late for all the children who may have suffered unnecessarily.

Well said siri

thank you to all the women on mumsnet who kept on with this even through deletions and bannings…and numpty posters 💐

Of course Scotland is going ahead with a conversion therapy ban because they are complete loons who think Cass doesn't apply to them.

One thing that worries me about Cass: Lastly, the evidence base showing whether psychosocial interventions – therapy – work for those who do not undergo hormone treatment is “as weak” as for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.

I assume this means therapy not to affirm their ideas about being the opposite sex, but to help them come to terms with their own sex and their body and place in society etc. Does this mean it's likely that therapy isn't effective? Or just that there isn't (yet) enough data?

From the interview with her I understood it as being that there's no long term studies on psych support rather than medication.

Ie no studies on not affirming.

kelsaycobbles · 10/04/2024 08:06

I think that there was/are extreme views on both sides but I don't think as a whole the MN boards propagated the extremism

Do you have any examples of extremes views from the MN boards?

WarriorN · 10/04/2024 09:08

Apparently binned yesterday

https://order-order.com/2024/04/09/exclusive-sunak-completely-kills-off-gay-conversion-therapy-ban/

With Cass advising that there's still no long term evidence base about psychological treatment only, it completely negates any argument that psych therapy is conversion therapy.

And if they're coming from an angle of ' ideas of gender is fluid and may change over time' it also puts to rest the idea that there's a "trans child" to convert in the first place.

I am wondering what posters who are scolding FWR think that we should have done? We have been deleted, some banned, some doxed for speaking out on this. We have been factual and unfailingly polite (well, the politeness went for some recently recently I think).

Should we have:

A) Let them trans other children as long as our own were protected (do it to Julia)?

B) Pretending that we didn’t realise how dangerous this is to protect the feelings of teachers and parents who were ignorant?

C) be nice and kind about all people with penises who threatened women, who doxxed women, who sued women?

D) Be grateful and quiet when receiving dick pics from lovely transwomen (didn’t this happen to baroness Nicholson and didn’t JK Rowing receive tons of dick pics on the thread where she asked children to provide pictures to the Ickabog?

I am looking forward to further insight into which of the alternatives/ combinations of alternatives these posters have in mind….

So relived this is now out, after initially feeling elated that we have been vindicated, I’m now feeling depressed because it’s not over is it?
With the likes of Girl Guides (who now sell Pride keyrings) and schools not following government guidelines, are any of these “trans child” pushers going to listen to Cass and stop pushing their agenda?

Edited

It’s definitely not over. The strategy to push gender identity over biological sex has been a structured and systematic process for decades.

I’ve witnessed my university go from supporting LGB to being ’queered’ with pronouns being taught as part of university-wide professional development and human rights training (deliberately?) misinterpreting protected characteristics, threats to faculty working on sex-related research, silencing of any counter viewpoints, student union fetish societies, badges, meetings started with introductions of our pronouns etc etc etc. We are, as you might imagine, SW Diversity Champions. It all came on the back of eminently good intentions of inclusivity. But it now feels almost impossible to turn the tide at our institution to reconsider any of the thinking or policies.

Forstater started us on the road for individuals to have their belief in the immutability of sex as a protected belief and helped others win their ETs. Now Cass is a necessary first step along a painful and lengthy journey to child and young people safeguarding.

But there are many many sincere ideologues out there, along with the insincere and manipulative male AGPs in positions of authority, who are furious and confused about any resistance and will do their utmost to continue to push this harmful and tragic nonsense.

Grauniad has an issue.

Access for medicalisation of children in the US is a Democratic position. Right ahead of an election and the Guardian is trying to cater to the US market.

Our main left wing media outlet trying to cater to the electorate in a different country is a major problem for our democracy.

"I've just been on BBC radio 5 live. You can probably listen back. From about 8.10. Listen from 8.05 to catch the transwoman before me who explains he was always a girl because as a child he wore a blonde wig and pink dresses."

So... can we get back to evidence based medical care now? Or is this a step in the right direction but will take many more to rescue this crazy?

Later this morning I'm going to book an appointment at a surgery with my MP so that I can go in and wave the articles at both him and his supercilious staff and say 'I told you. I told you all this six years ago. And you have treated me as if I'm insane — as if I'm the problem.' As everyone has said, the Cass report confirms that everything we've been concerned about here for years was right. Thank goodness for Mumsnet, even if I was regularly deleted and sanctioned and have been banned on two occasions.

Good for you! Please update us on their response.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2024 08:38

Hahahhahahahha.

That was done quietly.

But not before all the TRA MPs had clearly identified themselves and have their comments recorded on Hansard.

Datun · 10/04/2024 08:34

Women are really moving everything forward. From sport, to prisons and now children.

Transactivists are trying their best to maintain the stranglehold, but the public are absolutely waking up to the entire house of cards.

All helped by them listening, even peripherally, to TRAs 😀

PronounssheRa · 10/04/2024 08:33

I haven't read the report yet but I have a number of questions about the NHS and how they allowed this to happen? How did we end up with the NHS giving unevidenced treatment to children?

Where was NHS England and the senior leadership, where was the care quality commission. Where were the usual checks and balances.

It is gross negligence surely?

The doctor does not record the birth sex as they are worried that it might look bad in a subsequent investigation. There is an avalanche of girls applying to the service and they know that it's evedence of a social contagion and so despite this they just keep injecting these girls with testosterone.

If you are giving teenagers health care without a system in place for monitoring and assesing them then you are not providing best medical practice anymore.
You are just an unethical fraud in white coat giving kids life changing off label experimental drugs.

In addition, finding out that the NHS records gender over sex is absolute madness. How on earth do cervical/breast cancer screening letters get sent out correctly?

(There's nothing quite like growing a human inside you to make you make you deeply sceptical about the suggestion that India Willoughby is living as a woman and Freddy McConnell is living as a man.)

Yes, it's quite stark when you take them both into account at the same time.

Mate, I’m a child-free woman and I can still see that it’s all a crock of shite Grin

So GIDS likely knew the services they were offering were unlikely to stand up to evidence-based review, stopped collecting relevant data which would be useful for said review and carried on with the service regardless?

It baffles me that health care professionals would do this - and why. Surely you would want your ideology supported by data.
