Scroll to 19:07. I love a bit of straightforward Andrew Doyle.

Oh I know, @ILikeDungs, I could not believe that RMW produced that slide. I spluttered my wine all down my jumper.

AlisonDonut · 22/04/2024 22:09

Did RMW say that Australia keeps records unlike the UK? I thought he said that.

How does he know what records the UK keeps? I wonder if he has previously advised them not to? I mean, what with being a barrister and all.

ILikeDungs · 22/04/2024 19:09

Andrew Doyle "giving a shiny shit" again, interviewing RMW about the Cass Report last night on Free Speech Nation.

A slide was produced by RMW which was (unintentionally) very funny. You need to open it to see all the text.

Are you suggesting that at some point the far right might get involved in this debate?

I am suggesting that anyone accusing others of culture war mongering are implicating themselves.

Good point. And the BBC's coverage of Scarlet Blake, which referred to Blake as a woman throughout and actually misled many of the public into thinking that they were reading/hearing about a murder committed by a female perpetrator.

And I was slated for querying a headline about a "woman" attempting to abduct two children recently.

If the left wing media decides to stick its head in the sand, pretend everything is fine, and not report on this issue, it can hardly compain about the right wing media being allowed to control the narrative.

The Guardian and BBC are not just sticking their heads in the sand, (they are) they actively lie in some cases. They make victims out of the offenders, as did the Guardian, over the Wi Spa pervert.

Personally, I think if there's a culture war, its one being done against us.

Quite! It is the so called 'Progressive American Left' that is leading the charge....all else is resistance.

'Identity' has become what 'social class' used to be for the British Left. The U.S has never had a Socialist party. Both U.S parties have always been committed to the capitalist system and economy. Contemporary identity politics stems from that.

The left is perfectly capable of joining in at any point. We'll see whether the publication of the Cass Report might prompt some reflection. Guardian investigation into how the NHS was allowed to sterilise vulnerable children, perhaps?

There's an underlying assumption that the far right plays culture war all by itself.
It takes two to tango.

Exactly!!

Yes, seriously. That's what Fox News is doing in the US. And there are international actors who are playing similar games across borders.

GB News is similar - this particular guy may be alright but I don't like that the only platforms I can hear someone talk about this issue are right wing. I am annoyed that the left has to go along with it.

The other thing missing from ArabellaScott’s link is the sex of the victims; they could all be female. It also at any point in their life so could be pre-transition; we know abuse can be a trigger for young girls to want to disassociate with their sex.

Or it could male transgender prostitutes

Everything is missing from it!! There's bugger all info on anything. It could be a sample of two people.

ArabellaScott · 09/04/2024 07:13

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/04/2024 19:57

The population considered "transgender" in Philadelphia in 2005 is probably quite different to the population today. For eg prostitution has high rates of violent crimes against the person.

The research/data is unpublished and I can't find any record of it. So it's pretty much useless as nobody can check to see what evidence/sample/methods were used.

But it's the only specific reference I could find that could support the barrister's assertion. Could be I'm not looking in the right place. Or it could be that like 85% of statistics, it was made up on the spot.

literalviolence · 08/04/2024 22:12

ArabellaScott · 08/04/2024 19:51

It could be this unpublished American study:

'One in two transgender individuals are sexually abused or assaulted at some point in their lives.'

https://ovc.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh226/files/pubs/forge/sexual_numbers.html

Which links to:

1 FORGE, 2005, Sexual Violence in the Transgender Community Survey, unpublished data; G. Kenagy, 2005, "The Health and Social Service Needs of Transgender People in Philadelphia," International Journal of Transgenderism 8(2/3):49–56; G. Kenagy and W. Bostwick, 2005, "Health and Social Service Needs of Transgender People in Chicago," International Journal of Transgenderism 8(2/3):57–66.

I seem to remember looking this up before and being baffled that this non-linked unpublished data survey was being used as a reliable source.

Isn't the rate for women higher than that?

TBH at this stage I'm just glad someone is able to talk about it, because it needs awareness.

Andrew Doyle on GB News is one of the vanishingly few people in the media getting the truth of this shit out there and you are feeling funnelled in to fascism because of this? Seriously?

I do get that you don't mean to "have a go".

But these people don't give a shiny shit about women. They're just playing culture war and having fun with the outrage.

Andrew Doyle is a decent man who does give a shiny shit, who is practically the only platform for women attacked by this ideology. He has had them all on, all the women (and men) who have been chased out of their professions by this ideology. He has asked the right questions and highlighted salient points. Can I "have a go" and ask what he did wrong?

He obviously prepared very well for his interview with SF. He had all the facts in front of him and didn't just throw in cheap shots. He was polite with his questions and rebuttals. Andrew Doyle is fighting this alongside women, who have been deserted by the BBC and the Guardian. You may be too fine for his journalism but I would not be you for ever so, as my grandmother would say.

Well said OP.

SirChenjins · 08/04/2024 21:08

And yet SF came across as a bumbling idiot who threw around misogynistic hyperbole as if it were going out of fashion. I suppose everyone has their off days or finds themselves out of their professional depth from time to time - I would have hoped Joanna Cherry’s superior knowledge and insight on this issue would have rubbed off on him but sadly not.

RethinkingLife · 08/04/2024 20:39

SirChenjins · 08/04/2024 18:13

My toes were curling for Sam at the end there. Do people actually pay him for legal advice?

Yes.

SF acted for Joanna Cherry et al concerning their action against prorogation of Parliament.

SF was one of the three authors responsible for the written submission. I don't know how much influence Cherry had about the selection but I should think she's senior enough to have had someone removed if she considered them ill-suited to the task.

Sam Fowles (@SamFowles) is a Barrister at Cornerstone Barristers. He was junior counsel to Joanna Cherry QC MP and others in the Cherry/Miller cases

https://ukconstitutionallaw.org/2019/09/26/sam-fowles-cherry-miller-whats-next/

SF claims that "90% of what we are doing is not law, it's dealing with facts, it's dealing with people and the unique situations that people find themselves in. And if we try and treat the law as some sort of antiseptic science then you don't understand it properly in my view." SF talks about the role of facts, evidence, and the fundamental value of individuals. (YT video of the lecture.)

I would like to see SF encompass women within that. Despite the bravura post the AD-interview, I'd like to think that SF is capable of reflecting on that performance and deciding to investigate GI with due diligence to the point of being confident to put up decent arguments with verifiable citations, data, facts, evidence. I would like to see SF study up to be the evidenced advocate for gender ideology that so many have wished to see. It would certainly help Helen Joyce (and others) to write another book if they didn't have to supply arguments themselves, by default. (Legacy of "No debate!" or an absence of rationality or evidence?)
