Jeremy Vine focusing on the toxic debate rather than the report itself. Total waste of time.

If it ends up with ‘both sides were toxic’ as the historical narrative I will learn to live with that.

As long as the chemical castration of gay and autistic kids stops.

nauticant · 10/04/2024 13:02

The World at One, one of the more serious news programmes on BBC (it's on Radio 4) is leading with this and it sounds like the programme is going to give it a good amount of time, including a mother who feels her child was let down in the treatment they received.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/04/2024 12:55

Who was the man?

LizzieSiddal · 10/04/2024 12:49

I heard JV in the car and nearly had to pull over I was so angry. He’s such a coward! Here’s a watershed moment for children in England and Wales and he doesn’t have the guts to have a proper discussion. Instead he let that man talk about how awful he thought JK was. Angry

GimmeGin · 10/04/2024 12:48

So angry at the JV segment. Totally underprepared guest who came over as a bit clueless. Didn't defend the JKR and Sharron Davies situation, and the trans guest and JV basically perpetuated the myth that they are anti-trans.

Didn't defend women also having death threats and unbearable hate from trans, and was just too fluffy for my liking!

Like a pp, I'm sure this was intentional by the BBC, make the women look silly with no real opinion on the subject.

Huzzah!!!

"Recommendation 28: The NHS and the Department of Health and Social Care needs to review the process and circumstances of changing NHS numbers and find solutions to address the clinical and research implications"

It seems utterly ludicrous that they are still planning more puberty blocker research.

These clinicians have had years and hundreds of patients who have already been put through this pathway.

Before they risk harming any more children, they should prioritize sorting out their systems and follow up with an assessment of harms and whether there is any evidence whatsoever of benefit.

I’m so sickened by the extent to which extremists are still driving this forward.

First do no harm indeed!

Edited to add that a gleeful transactivist told me the other day that there couldn’t be any significant evidence of harm as they hadn’t banned puberty blockers altogether. Had there been evidence, they would be banned, was the assertion.

I really feel that this ludicrous strain of medicine should just be stopped altogether, unless someone, somewhere can give unequivocal evidence that there are benefits that outweigh the risks. They’ve had plenty of time to prove it and they’ve fucked it up, probably to an extent, deliberately as knowing the results would probably have stopped the practice several years back.

WinterTrees · 10/04/2024 12:38

No, Shay (Shae?) Coffey/Kofi was a male. And JV, talking about them to Birdy Rose used 'he' and had to quickly correct himself.

Has anyone yet mentioned that the NHS has confirmed there will be a review of adult services.

I feel very sorry for people of all ages today who absolutely believe that they cannot tolerate their sexed bodies and the only way out of their distress is physical treatment. It must feel desperate and that they only hope you have for happiness (or even reduced distress) is slipping away.

Whilst I think we are nearer to a position whereby better treatments will be in place to support better outcomes, I have grave concerns that the people who need to access these treatment won't be able to due to supply issues.

Mental health services, like many NHS services are chronically under funded and departments who do have funding often don't have the workforce.

But, as you say, that is a “belief” that they currently have. They could be supported to reach a place of acceptance of their sexed bodies.

This JV discussion is one of the worst pieces I've ever heard on this subject, which I've been following closely since 2017.

I'd complain but can't be arsed. The shutters have been opened to let the sunlight in, and selectively stupid journalists like Vine can't close them again.

Agree. It felt like it was on purpose so they didn't have to address the facts.

A man who has a trans child who believes in "no debate" and a woman who says she doesn't know enough to say whether or not TWAW.

That was a female trans person, wasn't it? Isn't Kofi (I have no idea of the spelling) a female?

Signalbox · 10/04/2024 12:31

I think that's Artist Birdy Rose on now.

I know 🙄Who was that woman? She had absolutely nothing useful to say.

Jeremy Vine focusing on the toxic debate

Yes of course Jeremy Vine has absolutely nothing to do with the toxicity of the debate.

Sorry, I didn't reference - fig 27 from final report, p121

Lots of detail/evidence behind each of the areas pictured here. Really helpful how the complexity is laid out.

Jeremy Vine discussing this now on Radio 2

Datun · 10/04/2024 12:07

Parents of gender confused kids feeling so relieved and wanting to thank Hilary Cass is very moving. 💐

And I hope she reads all the responses.

Datun · 10/04/2024 12:00

OldCrone · 10/04/2024 10:17

The Cass review explains why that is incorrect.

Societal acceptance
8.26 Although it is certainly the case that there
is much greater acceptance of trans identities,
particularly amongst Generation Z, and this may
account for some of the increase in numbers,
this is not an adequate explanation for the
overall phenomenon. Arguments that counter
this explanation include:
• the exponential increase in numbers within
a 5-year timeframe is very much faster than
would be expected for the normal evolution
of acceptance of a minority group;
• the rapid increase in numbers presenting
to gender services across Western
populations;
• the change in prevalence from birth-
registered males to birth-registered
females. The current profile of transgender
presentations is unlike that in any prior
historical period;
• the sharp differences in the numbers
identifying as transgender and non-
binary and presenting to gender services
in Generation Z and younger Millennials
compared to those over the age of 25-30.
It would be expected that older adults would
also show some signal of distress regarding
their gender, even if they felt unable to
‘come out’

It's almost exactly like threads on here where TRAs come out with that guff.

Except slightly less blunt 🤣

Apologies if already posted

https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/news/the-cass-review-mermaids-response/

"Everyone deserves access to timely, supportive and holistic healthcare. However, across all of the UK, the NHS is failing trans youth, with appalling waiting lists of more than six years, virtually no first appointments offered for over a year, and increased politicisation of the support offered to children and young people.

Trans youth tell us they want services which are accepting and respectful, which offer supportive spaces to explore their gender, and provide access to medical transition if and when they need it.

The Cass Review, an independent review of NHS England gender services for children and young people, published today (Wednesday 10 April) after almost four years, echoes much of this and recognises the current system is failing trans youth.

We are pleased the voices and experiences of trans young people appear to have been heard and respected, and we welcome Dr Cass’ calls for trans children and young people, and their families, to be “treated with compassion and respect”. We hope for the same, and for the sharing of clear, accurate information when discussing this topic.

However, we are concerned that some of the language in the report is open to misinterpretation and could be used to justify additional barriers to accessing care for some trans young people in the same way the interim report has been. We will publish our full analysis of The Cass Review in due course.

NHS England has published their immediate response to The Cass Review and written to all adult providers, explaining the changes they plan to make in the short to medium term. Very few of these will have an immediate effect on children and young people, and we will keep trans young people and their families informed about any changes that might impact them.

In the meantime, we call on NHS England, and the NHS across the UK, to resist pressures from those who seek to limit access to healthcare, listen to trans youth directly, and act urgently to provide gender services which are timely, supportive and holistic.

If you need support or have questions about what this might mean for yourself or your young person, please contact our helpline team. We’re here for you Monday – Friday, 9am – 9pm. "

Bloody hell. Talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

I wonder if Cass will do a follow-up report, once she sees the pushback that these transactactivist organisations are going to launch.
