Read it and weep:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/05/union-against-schools-telling-parents-child-changes-gender/

"A teaching union will campaign against government plans to force schools to tell parents if their child changes gender.
Members of the National Education Unionn_ (NEU) agreed on Friday to oppose what teachers described as the “compulsory ‘outing’” of pupils to parents.
Teachers at the union’s annual conference in Bournemouthh also said they would campaign against a ban on any aspect of “social transitioningg” in schools, which could include allowing children to change their pronounss_ or use lavatories or changing facilities of the opposite sex.
The motion, approved by the majority of delegates at the conference, was drawn up in response to draft government guidancee_ on gender-questioning children.
The long-awaited advice states that schoolss_ in England should not accept all requests for social transitioning and should involve parents in any decision that is made.
Speaking in favour of the campaign against the guidance, Kathryn Barton, an NEU member, said she knew of a seven-year-old who had transitioned during the summer holiday and said that “not a single pupil” had a problem with it.

...

Midge Lowe, a teacher from Doncaster, said the Government’s draft guidance was “regressive trash” and said teachers must campaign for it to be withdrawn.
...

No delegates at the conference spoke against the motion, which also stated that “schools, colleges and external providers should not change or remove LGBT++_ inclusive policies or curriculum content as ‘knee-jerk’ response to political rhetoric”."

The same union voted to affiliate with Just Like Us

@WhereAreWeNow I definitely think I'm right on this one! Where else would you go? Also it's where judges, fire fighters and police officers challenged IIRC.

Is there any Union left that has not been captured? I was with Unison for years as support staff in a school. I cancelled my membership some years ago. So many staff are left unprotected.

I think if your beliefs don't align with the union's anti-safeguarding stance then you're essentially unprotected even if you do pay your dues. I believe this has already happened to quite a few. It's why my DH has left his union - he doesn't believe they'd have his back as they're too busy releasing TRA or pro-Palestine statements, which both have the sum total of zero to do with his job. (edited to add DH is not a teacher, though is public sector)

I've seen several posters on here recommend Edapt because they are politically neutral while offering a range of support / protection for education staff. I know nothing about them, but here's a link to their website:

Which teaching union to join? - Edapt

It’s the time of year when many teachers and school staff will be deciding their options when subscribing to a teaching union or edu-legal support such as Edapt (or in some cases both!).What is the decision making process a teacher makes when choosing...

Nope

@WhereAreWeNow, I think members can take their TU to ET:

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/section/57

I'm not saying unions can't face legal challenge from members. I'm just saying I don't think it would be at an employment tribunal because there isn't an employment relationship there.

OMG!
That article - such a clear and chilling insight.

Report by Make space for girls.

The data is stark:

Every one of them prioritising the demands of these self interested adults over safeguarding children from damaging psychological and for many, medical experimentation

Adultification, in other words. A concept that ignites and inspires activist groups when it suits.

I don't know why schools stopped using the book bills new frock.

All these sexism issues and boys dominating the playground were covered.

It would be interesting to do a prospective cohort study of mental health outcomes of children in schools captured by gender woo vs those resisting the gender woo. Since it's generally a whole school thing - either you're lying to children about whether they can change sex or not (depending on the SLT), and either you're compelling all the other children to lie or not - there should be abundant opportunity to do this.

Plenty of schools are safeguarding girls still, and not breaking the law, my DDs is one

This is a very interesting point re. parks being geared to boys. At my local park 90% of the field is dominated by boys playing football, if girls stray intot hatnsoace the boys kick the ball at the girls which hurts them, the boys find this hilarious. The girls’ play (mostly gymnastics and imaginative play) is pushed to the edge of the field, where the parents constantly tell off the girls doing cartwheels because the girls’ skirts obviously flop around. No wonder girls give up.

Yes - the same applies to school playgrounds. Unless adults intervene and plan / organise spaces / activities during breaks, boys playing football often dominate the space .

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 07/04/2024 09:20

This raises their participation in education, as without their own toilets, many just won't go.

It's been known for decades this is true.

And yet the Dfe says why is attendance for some so low WHYYYY??? Do the analysis - I bet attendance is lower for girls in general and especially during their period in schools with mixed toilets. FFS, the DfE and Keegan in particular are dim as dim can be.

And participation in sports and exercise for girls is well known to be an issue as they hit puberty.

Girls need single sex sports within schools and obviously also changing spaces. And those who are part of very strict religions or cultures.

Athletes are now using sports science targeted at women which has been demonstrated to need entirely different approaches; this should be being taught at school imo to maximise girl's participation.

There's even a report out last year on parks looking at how they were accessed that described how teen boys did but teen girls didn't use parks as they were more geared for boys' interests.

Sexism is alive and well everywhere. Women are still invisible

And being encouraged by the NEU to break the law.

Precisely, it definitely needs to be challenged legally.

Re your comments about your daughter and hypothetical unisex toilets: there are charities which build toilets for girls in schools, in places like India. This raises their participation in education, as without their own toilets, many just won't go.

Why is this country regressing here? It's absolutely batshit.

Ellysa · 07/04/2024 09:16

It’s really upsetting that people this stupid can become teachers.

WarriorN · 07/04/2024 09:15

in primary schools

WarriorN · 07/04/2024 09:14

Also @MrsOvertonsWindow, the universities training teachers who are now teaching in schools, and may well be into their 5th year, have been actively involved in promoting this ideology.

Hence the pile of trans activist children's books too.

Leeds Beckett university openly boasts on its website about how it uses children's story books to teach trans inclusion.

The more concerning interpretation is that this person knows damn well that children will feel the power dynamic and stay quiet for that reason.

Yes. safeguarding training explores how children can be easily coerced and targeted. Manipulated.

It's sinister when you really consider the wider implications, and what we know about some individuals linked to WPATH etc.,

It makes me despair. All adults in schools receive safeguarding training. The level of cognitive dissonance required to understand concepts like informed consent, age appropriate, emotional abuse, coercive control while believing that a 7 year old has "changed sex" and nobody questions it is unbelievable.

I know this is as a result of policy capture at the highest levels but I never thought that with our history of whistle blowing and our institutional knowledge about systematic abuse in schools, children's homes, sport, Savile etc that all these institutions would be suddenly open to capture by adults insisting that children can and should change sex.

Every one of them prioritising the demands of these self interested adults over safeguarding children from damaging psychological and for many, medical experimentation.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 07/04/2024 09:08

Actually, if my daughter was in a school without single sex toilets I'd actually consider homeschooling until she could be moved - mixed sex toilets are unsafe for girls, I wouldn't want to wait until she was assaulted before I acted to safeguard.

I have to say, I'm not religious but there are big religious groupings within DDs school and I am very very grateful for the leadership the parents in these communities have shown as it's partly down to them I believe our children still have the security of the school not breaking the law on toilets. They are very clear about single sex toilets. Also the Headteacher is brilliant.

Why are some children being used in a queer theory experiment whilst others get their legal rights upheld? This is discrimination where some children are afforded their legal rights / proper safeguarding and others aren't. At a school level. There needs to be legal action on this.
