Senior Labour figure now backing JKR:

Pat McFadden, Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster told GB News: “I don't think she should be arrested. That's pretty clear. We are not planning to create new crimes in this area.
“We want proper enforcement of the anti-hate crime laws that are there and make sure that the right penalties are in place to protect people.
“We're not planning to legislate for new crimes in this area and I don't think JK Rowling should be arrested.”
In a discussion with Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello, he continued: “It's a law passed by the Scottish Parliament. I thought it was slightly strange that they didn't include women in the law.
“They've included a number of other categories…that seems like something that should be addressed.”

That is good to hear. There were rumblings of Labour bringing in similar, so that's a relief.

I wonder if the police will record a NCHI against JKR?

I love that JKR said this ;
"If they go after any woman for simply calling a man a man, I'll repeat that woman's words and they can charge us both at once."
No sweeping her under the carpet :)

Me too!
Although I'm in England so not sure how much use that would be. I'm old, I don't have much to lose by going to prison.

NonPlayerCharacter · 03/04/2024 07:49

When IW weighed in and said they were all sexual predators except IW....and JKR's quip. Oh my God, I haven't laughed that much since the Weasley twins kicked Umbridge's bum.

BeethovenNinth · 03/04/2024 07:47

I’m in Scotland and I dread to think where we would be without JKR. But why should it come to this? Why should we be subject to such a government that most of us don’t want?

and what about the comments made about poor white Scottish men by police Scotland?

JK Rowling 'should not be arrested' under new hate crime laws, says Labour

Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who has become a fierce critic of the Scottish government's stance on transgender rights, dared police to arrest her as the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act came into effect.

There were 3800 hate reports on the first day of the act.

Last year 790 crimes of all kinds were reported in Scotland per day.

The new law has resulted in about 480% more crime reports PER DAY so far. Police Scotland have to check each one. This is such a waste of time.

Wow! 😮

Where are you seeing these stats Orbit?
Also do we know how many were direct and how many were reported via the sex shop for example?

I would love to know how many the police ‘loose’ down the back of the filing cabinet 😉

FoulWrinkledWitch · 03/04/2024 01:55

I'm in awe of her brilliance and eternally thankful that she is on our side in this relentless undermining of biological reality, women's rights and children's safeguarding. I am often moved to tears when she speaks out.
Thank you Jo, from those of us who don't have your voice. 💚🤍💜

I'm only just catching up on all today's news. I am so deeply moved by JKR's brave, thoroughly decent and generous response to this attack on women, safeguarding and free speech and I'm in awe. There are so few people in the public eye to truly admire. And then there's Jo. Thank you for standing up for all of us. X

MsFogi · 02/04/2024 22:40

If there is one woman that would make a prison sentence bearable, it is JKR - I would be happy to share a cell with her!

JanesLittleGirl · 02/04/2024 22:36

I could post this on any one of about six threads but what a wonderful day for sex based realism. Thank you JK Rowling and thank you all the women who refused to wheesht.

PaterPower · 02/04/2024 22:08

From the linked article:
Since the law came into effect on Monday Police Scotland has received more than 3,000 complaints.

Clearly been a busy 24 hours for a few people (not to mention the Polis who have to wade through them all - I’m almost sympathetic).

I’d love to find out what proportion are from TRA versus GC ‘counter-punches.’

KohlaParasaurus · 02/04/2024 21:59

I hope JKR never gets lured into an official political role. She's much more effective as an independent agent.

I am in awe.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 02/04/2024 21:52

She’s an absolute legend 🙏🏻

She’s played an absolute blinder, throwing down the gauntlet that she will repeat whatever an accused woman has said and in one simple move, scuppering the whole plan.

Stick that in your pipe, Useless.

upthehill24 · 02/04/2024 21:39

Cult-captured BBC have still avoided mentioning WARPATH, but could not ignore the JKR event. Before I switched off the radio, I heard the Cult spokesman explaining that the evil one had tweeted horrible things which would incite everyone to be hateful to the 'specials'. JKR had even named some among them, and had said incredibly horrid nastiness about them.

The impression created was that JKR had somehow become an internet troll, writing abuse and fabricating stories, then attaching her falsehoods to real people she had chosen to target. The man was becoming quite convincing, in his outrage and alarm about JKR's monstrous behaviour.

The interviewer did not challenge by pointing out the things JKR tweeted were factual. Instead, this story was broadcast to the nation/world, in the name of the once trusted BBC.

Had the interviewer and the man both somehow contrived NOT to read those fairly short tweets, which simply listed details about the men's crimes, as proved in court? The general public, (not taking much notice,) could have been convinced JKR had really done something wrong.

Meanwhile, the Guardian readers and Party leaders, making determined efforts not to see, hear or think, would not find their fingers-in- ears "la la la" had been dented by hearing any inconvenient truth.
(It's ironic that r pist 'Isla Bryson's' pink tights were the breakthrough, because normal people could not ignore that picture, and even politicians must be needing to work hard at their "la la"-ing)

Talk about sisterly solidarity. : ). I didn’t think I could love that woman anymore, but I do!

I also adore her ability to weild words.

queenrowling · 02/04/2024 21:28

thank you Jo Rowling. Most of us can't speak openly because of this horseshite cult ideology. But we so appreciate your presence, to say what those who can't, don't.

Runskiyoga · 02/04/2024 21:20

I've only listened to half of it but Lewis Goodall and Jon Sopel on The News Agents with a very strong piece on this, and getting some criticism in the comments like Maitlis did for the Hannah Barnes interview.

Yes, everywhere I've been online today says the same thing. Its about islamaphobia rather than men of a gender.

I've no idea how true it is.

Sigh, pressed too soon.

And good on jk, I knew she had something planned, I'm impressed

It's not neutered, the 'trans issue' is a straw man.
The aim of this is to introduce 'blasphemy law' under cover.
