‘We have biological women and we have trans women. And they’re both women: one is a biological woman through sex and one is a trans woman who has transitioned. Most of the public can get that.’

Angela Rayner on roots, rough edges and being ready for power: ‘You can’t go through the childhood I had and not have any fallout’

She’s blunt, bolshie and terrifies the Tories. But if Labour gets into government, the deputy leader will be one of the most powerful women in Britain. Bring it on, she says

Jesus fucking Christ Angela 😡 and this is why I can’t, simply cannot vote for labour.

BirthdayRainbow · 24/03/2024 19:11

I read something yesterday that said the word women is confusing so it will now be person with vagina

HagoftheNorth · 24/03/2024 19:10

So I wonder what Rayner’s definition of ‘woman’ is then. My guess is that she’s not just about to try to explain that 🙄

Raynor has always been like this. She signed a pledge during the leadership election that said people who were members of organisations like LWD and Woman's Place should be expelled from the party. She also congratulated Lily Madigan (elected as a constituency Labour Party woman's officer despite being clearly male) saying that she would keep the green benches "warm" for them. Lily was later accused of sexual harassment by female students at Goldsmiths. She (Raynor) has no sense at all.

And yet quite high up in the party

I’d be really interested to hear Raynor’s definition of transition and at which point she believes a man has successfully become a woman.

I think this is essential. Labour really need to define their terms. They won't though.

Ange does say she only sleeps about 3 hours per night. That doesn't do anyone's mental health any good.

Gettingonmygoat · 24/03/2024 18:13

How stupid is she? It is simple a woman was born female a man was born male. You cannot change sex at all, ever. Wear a dress, Have your penis cut off and call yourself Shelia but if you were born with a prostate and went through male puberty, you are a man, a bloke, a male.

And if you were born male and prevented from going through male puberty/actively pushed towards "female puberty", you've been abused.

Anyone who calls other people 'scum' is someone I have no respect for at all.

I remember that! I still can’t believe that she said that in parliament

Cowards or Liars

Time for a new card game perhaps? Was the person who said this a coward, a liar or a fool?

That's me not voting Labour then, despite DD's attempts to persuade me.

KohlaParasaurus · 24/03/2024 17:23

I'm sure her conflict of interest, whatever it is, will eventually become apparent. She's not thick, but she appears motivated to behave as if she thinks the rest of us are.

LakeTiticaca · 24/03/2024 17:22

No Angela. Just no.
No No No no

user8800 · 24/03/2024 17:19

Women and children aren't safe under labour

Not a sentence I ever imagined I'd type

Sad times

@Floisme i think the really key thing is when decca says that AR hadn’t interrogated her position at all & is confused when DA challenges her. Sadly I suspect this applies to a lot of politicians

Yes, reading it again, I agree this bit really sticks out:
'But she doesn't seem to have interrogated her own position on this issue very thoroughly at all and looks increasingly confused when I try to.'

If she were a back bencher then I wouldn't find it so startling but, from a senior politician who, if Starmer were to fall (or be pushed) under the proverbial bus, could well end up as Prime Minister, it's not impressive.

domineastronomy · 24/03/2024 17:09

Fucking terrified for women and children if Labour get in.

Fuck Off Angela Rayner.

Reminder of her comments in that Sunday tines interview at the time the Isla Bryson story was all over the news

Thanks @Theeyeballsinthesky I'd forgotten that the interview was at the same time as Isla Bryson, so there was absolutely no way she couldn't have known about it and no excuse for such a senior politician being so badly prepared.

TuesdayWhistler · 24/03/2024 16:38

I get that Rayner has sold out.

I don't trust Labour.

As with anyone who repeats some version of this statement, it means one of two things.

She either believes it, which means she is stupid; or she doesn't believe it, but is saying it anyway, which means she is a liar. Neither is a good quality in positions of power.

I don’t think she believes it. It reads to me like she’s trying to skate over the issue. I tend to think Labour will change their tune when/if they get into power.
Which is cynical of them, yes, but I can’t get that furious about it.

I'm not impressed with that comment but I'm impressed with everything else. She nursed her own mother, was pregnant as a teenager, worked as a home help, getting qualifications as she did so and then became an MP.

Yes, she's had a tough life going through all that. I wonder what led her to believe that some men are women and that they should be prioritised over women?
