I'm irked that I quite liked him, I've seen programmes with him with my daughter. He should get the sack, but as he's at the BBC, I doubt it.

unwashedanddazed · 24/03/2024 02:39

Dr Ronx in the DM article above "To see people who are 'professionals' tut, frown and take pictures of us as if we are the enemy whilst accessing the conference was not nice."

Presumably storming the building, screaming and throwing smoke bombs was considered a reasonable response to those who tut.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/03/2024 01:19

The horse was in Melbourne, Australia. Same TRA tactics though.
Police actually pepper-sprayed some of them (TRAs, not horses)

Described as an "Anti-trans" rally of course.
Apparently the two women who were arrested were of the bepenised variety, quelle surprise

My comments weren’t directed towards the medical question. Initially I was thinking about a feminist symposium I attended recently. The main speaker was force teaming GC and conservative perspectives. Made me think about how many GC people concerned with the rush to affirm gender questioning teens are tarred with the far right brush. Then seeing the same accusation today viz the protests whilst some of the chat comments did hint at ‘anti-woke’ views made me think about this again.

Of course there will be different ideological perspectives within the medical world. An important question is why so many have adhered to affirmation. I’m not at all sure what prompts intelligent medics to affirm / prescribe PBs and CSHs etc. seemingly without stopping to consider how it has to be based on an underlying ideology of believing gender is material.

Some medic friends who rush to affirm do so believing themselves to be kind. Though it seems anything but to me.

Yes, I see where you were coming from.

I think quite a lot of medical people (people in general really) aren't actually all that analytical or creative. Their approach to medicine is just about following what they are told the best practice is, and they don't question that a lot. Maybe there is something of a failure in the training though I would say that it's possibly part of a larger failure in the sciences which don't always manage to communicate to undergraduates what is really going on in scientific thinking.

That horse is definitely a terf.

I love how both horse and it’s rider are completely ignoring the toddler having a tantrum banging it’s cymbal.

Are either of those positions really relevant to the medical question - I'd have thought that they would want to avoid any overt ideological approach, and you'd probably have people from a wide variety of ideological perspectives within the medical world, including many that don't fit into either of your descriptions.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13231759/cbbc-medical-presenter-accused-trans-mob-storm-conference-puberty-blocker-row.html

In a speech outside the First Do No Harm conference, Dr Ronx said: 'I am a doctor of 13 years, I am a trans, non-binary doctor and Can-SG is doing harm.'

Dr Ronx, 40, presents alongside twin doctors Chris and Xand van Tulleken on the popular children's health show Operation Ouch!

Last night, Stephanie Davies-Arai, of campaign group Transgender Trend, said: 'A CBBC presenter should not be involved in protests against evidence-based medical care for children.

'That Dr Ronx led a mob that prevented attendees from accessing the conference is a serious public order infraction.'

CBBC presenter accused of leading trans mob's bid to storm conference

Dr Ronx Ikharia, who presents Operation Ouch!, was seen using a loud hailer outside a meeting of doctors at the Royal College of General Practitioners in London.

It’s absolutely identical to all the others, right down to the black umbrellas and calling it a ‘counter protest’ when the event they are trying to prevent isn’t a ‘protest’.

As if us terves have time or inclination to mask up, rabble rouse and get arrested!
And even if we did we’d never be able to pull off disguising ourselves as angry men pretending to be angry women.

Hoping for eventual videos from the livestream, even if just shorter clips or audio only. Didn’t have time to watch today (let alone get arrested).

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2024 22:01

TheClogLady · 23/03/2024 20:34

Meanwhile, over on the transgender U.K. subreddit the protest has been called a ‘false flag’

It looks just like a dozen other 'trans rights' protests I've seen. Only up until now it's been feminists they've been protesting, and nobody cared if they were terrorised, smoke bombed, screamed at or assaulted.

Now the extremist TRAs have tried to break into the RCGP.

The optics of this are astonishing, and I hope will be instructive to any HCPs who may have been interested and watching what happened from afar.

ApocalipstickNow · 23/03/2024 21:51

That horse video looked like a Vic and Bob sketch

IwantToRetire · 23/03/2024 21:44

Thanks to all who made the conference happen, and thanks for this thread.

Is the livestream available now the event is over?

I know it was a paid option for those who couldn't attend, but sounds like it would be good if it could be publicly available.

where I also saw this:

We are really concerned that our YouTube channel has been incorrectly flagged as containing 'conversion therapy content'. We are working to get this issue resolved & apologise for any distress caused to our viewers.

At CAN-SG we are unequivocally opposed to conversion therapy. We are a group of UK and Ireland based clinicians calling for greater understanding of sex and gender in healthcare #FirstDoNoHarm

Today's conference First Do No Harm, brings together clinicians, researchers, parents, patients and therapists to discuss current controversies in the care of children and young people with gender-related distress, safeguarding as it relates to sex and gender, sex-based language in healthcare, and addressing the impacts of gender medicine on same-sex attracted youth.

Our webinars, hosted by YouTube aim to cover the scope of our concerns and our work in the field of sex and gender in health care.

Our aims
1 Enhance professional and public understanding of the nature of sex, gender, gender roles and identity, with respect to medicine and healthcare
2 Improve knowledge about the causes, consequences and treatments of gender dysphoria, drawing on best evidence
3 Promote free and respectful discourse on sex, gender and gender identity between healthcare professionals

Our values
1 Our values are rooted in universalism, compassion and respect for human rights
2 We welcome constructive dialogue within healthcare and are committed to considering a range of views in order to clarify understanding of evidence and to facilitate clear communication
3 “First, do no harm” means we take seriously the responsibility of all clinicians to examine potential harms associated with all healthcare interventions, especially when treating vulnerable populations, and to address uncertainty with research

TRA attempts to frighten a horse fail, but still a good demonstration of the level of intimidation going on:
https://twitter.com/j4ppleby/status/1771445227506507965

Going after the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) rather than brave groups of feminists is a big mistake by the TRAs. You were only allowed to do this stuff when you targeted women's groups. Police failed to act for ages but eventually made three arrests.

The people in this video are protesting a conference at which clinicians and others are talking about the evidence in relation to healthcare for gender questioning children. In trying to prevent conference from happening, they're acting contrary to their best interests.

What is this 'Royal Collage of Practitioners' of which the Blue Haired speak? Is it some art club? I wonder what they're practitioners of ... so many mysteries.

Possibly the Magic Circle?

If the Youth want Full Autonomy Now they need to get a job to pay for it.

It’s not so long ago that leaving school at 15 to work in a factory was commonplace, or perhaps they fancy fruit picking or chimney cleaning?

The right to a childhood is a fairly new concept really. Very regressive of them to not appreciate that.

lonelywater · 23/03/2024 19:41

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2024 19:37

It's a bit of a toddler tantrum of a slogan, really.

Quite. Barely a step away from "Vegetable rights and peace!" (one for the teenagers there)

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2024 19:37

ScrollingLeaves · 23/03/2024 18:11

“Full Youth Autonomy Now!”

More full youth lacking any autonomy, following each other over the cliff like lemmings.

It's a bit of a toddler tantrum of a slogan, really.

dapsnotplimsolls · 23/03/2024 19:20

Thank you. They're probably scared of the dark.
