How do you even use these pronouns to refer to this person?

Maybe it’s because they can “refer to myself as however I please, thank you very fucking much.”

Sure, go ahead, refer to yourself however you want. What has that to do with the way anybody else refers to you?

Thanks for the info & explaining to me.
Whats the view on women/ men (not trans) using these pronouns? I mean, when no need- they are obv the gender they are?

Or they do it to Be Kind. They've been told it's kind to do this, and nobody wants to be thought of as unkind, after all.

Or they’ve seen other people doing it so also do it. I was saying the other day I’d love to ask a couple of people why they put pronouns on their email signature at work as I know the answer would be I’ve no fucking clue .

...if they have no clue then they come under the 'making yourself look a bit of a twat' category.

In general I think the preferred pronouns thing is ridiculous and also about taking an opportunity to display your opinions, but I can't get worked up about it. Young people tend to do it mostly from what I see.

Maybe it’s because they can “refer to myself as however I please, thank you very fucking much.”

But we use he/she/they pronouns to refer to others.

The pronouns used to refer to oneself are I/me.
So of course you can refer to yourself however you fucking like.

However, asking other people to use language that you have decided upon in place of their natural use of sex-based pronouns goes beyond referring to yourself and into controlling how others perceive you and refer to you.

He/she/they aren’t “your” pronouns.

Displaying them is shorthand for “this is the sex I want you to perceive me as and refer to me as”.

It's a play!

They’re not commenting on themselves though. The display of pronouns is to instruct everyone else on how they’re allowed to speak about them. It’s about controlling everyone else.

The pronouns they use to refer to themselves are I and me. Just as they are for everyone. They’re the first person pronouns.

What are you getting out of commenting on this thread, Ian?

Because it’s not an echo chamber, Gary.

Apparently.

ScrotumGantry · 15/03/2024 08:47

I'm especially confused as i thought they were using Margaret Thatcher as a pronoun which seems particularly strange.

What I’d like to know is how do you find out if a colleague starts putting their sex based pronouns on emails, (as in, a man puts he/him or a woman puts she/her) whether they are doing it because they think it makes them look a bit edgy, or they are just #beingkiiiind or because they truly believe?

I feel that just saying ‘you’re making yourself look a bit of a twat there, mate’ is a bit harsh.

They do it to signify that they are Safe Space for trans identifying people (you may have cross posted with my last post :) )

There is nothing 'safe' about playing along with a delusion.

It's not her name 😄. That's their character's name. I've redacted his actual name.

You’ve used her and his 😵‍💫

I say what I see. I won’t deny my reality to appease someone that is confused about their own.

Is this actor playing the system by using all of them so they can get any of the better parts. Think we already know someone like that, don't we 🤔

Are you rotating through the pronouns? The mind boggles

I've seen this be requested, so that for each instance of pronoun use one progresses through the list of pronouns. For example, referring to one single individual: "I said to him that they ought to go to the shops to get the wine and once she was done with that he should take it to the party, where we can meet them".

Not being goady, genuinely interested in the response- what is actually wrong with displaying pronouns?
To me it feels abit silly & unnecessary but cant find better words than that to explain!

It is coerced speech. I have no more right to demand that you ignore the evidence of your eyes and nose and refer to me as something I am not, than I have to demand that you ignore the evidence and refer to me as Her Gracious Majesty.

Dishonesty breaches safeguarding. Read this fairplayforwomen.com/pronouns/

They signify an environment in which being gender critical won't be tolerated, which means you can expect to center men even more than usual, including in female loos and changing rooms.

It's intention is to make trans and non-binary identifying people feel welcome. In reality it's not really liked by lots of trans identifying people because they'd like to think they pass and therefore people don't need help to know which pronouns they would prefer.
