@Boredandborder, I got the exact same email back today from Damien Moore.

Tory standard response!

Boredandborder · 21/03/2024 19:58

Response from Jo Churchill received today. I'm not a Tory voter but she is a good representative and has proved herself to genuinely care for her constituents. See below:

Thank you for contacting me about the Health and Equality Acts (Amendment) Bill which is being proposed by Liz Truss.

The Private Members’ Bill, which seeks to address specific issues in relation to transgender or gender-questioning children and to redefine the meaning of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010, was scheduled to have its second reading on Friday 15 March.

It is disappointing that MPs did not have the opportunity to debate this Bill on its scheduled date. However, more broadly, the Government welcomes the sentiment set out in the Bill, and is clear that biological sex exists and matters, and is committed to maintaining the safeguards that allow organisations to provide single-sex services. As you may be aware, the Government has already begun addressing these complex issues in a pragmatic and proportionate way and will continue to do so.

In October 2023, the Government announced that it will change the NHS Constitution to clarify patients’ rights to access separate and single-sex spaces in hospitals and address patient concerns about patient choice on intimate and personal care, ensuring that women have the right to access dedicated single-sex spaces.

The Government has welcomed the decision by NHS England to no longer routinely prescribe puberty blockers at gender identity clinics, which will help ensure that care is based on evidence, expert clinical opinion and is in the best interest of patients. I understand that it is expected the private sector will follow suit, and if a private organisation registered with the Care Quality Commission fails to meet the conditions of its registration, then the regulator can take enforcement action.

Additionally, the Department for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, have introduced guidance, which was developed alongside experts, to support schools both in relation to transgender pupils and those who are questioning their gender. This guidance is categorical that social transition is not a neutral act, and that social transition, in practice, should be extremely rare when the appropriate safeguards are put in place and the child’s best interest taken into account. You will be reassured to know that safeguarding should always remain a priority for schools, and that they have a legal duty to protect single-sex toilet spaces and maintain safety in single-sex sports.

I would like to assure you that the Government does recognise that more can be done in this area, which is why the Minister for Women and Equalities has commissioned detailed policy and legal analysis into the meaning of sex in the Equality Act, which is underway.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
With kind regards,

Jo

I remember quite a few years ago watching a docu on TV about the workings of the HoP, and it featured Sarah Champion and another Tory woman MP whose name I can't remember. I think both were steering through Private Members Bills, or trying to. It struck me then, the "Me, me, me" really shone through in her.

Froodwithatowel · 17/03/2024 12:00

Labour MP is a vacuous prat.

Froodwithatowel · 16/03/2024 19:24

There should be sanctions for this type of behaviour as it was very obviously deliberate.

This.

However misogynistic and gynephobic MPs may be, there is no excuse for messing around to avoid facing up to and discussing child safeguarding issues in the massive scandal they have enabled on their watch.

FigRollsAlly · 16/03/2024 18:03

I’d be surprised if this gets mentioned on Laura K’s show but would be delighted to be proved wrong. She has covered this area maybe once or twice to my knowledge and there are lots of other things to talk about so they will probably focus on eg Tory donors and racism, Diane Abbott, Lee Anderson etc plus the interview with Earl Spencer.

duc748 · 16/03/2024 18:02

Matters aren't helped by lobby hacks being OK with this kind of procedural flummery in Parliament, part of the rich tapestry of our glorious traditions, etc.

No, it's not big, not clever, and should have no place in the 21st century.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 16/03/2024 17:56

Labour have made themselves look like a pathetic bunch of childish dicks here. I'd be interested in who is on Laura Kuenssberg tomorrow, representing Labour and what they have to say about it. There should be sanctions for this type of behaviour as it was very obviously deliberate. I'd also like to know why the Deputy Speaker didn't tell them all to STFU basically.

I don't think I've ever seen LWD be so openly critical of their own party.

And we were hoping that Labour would do a reverse ferret and support women's rights and safeguarding of children.

They are deeply in hock to a political movement that perceives protection of children as not only deeply inconvenient but an attack upon them and their preferred outcomes.

There are many reasons I have given up on Labour, but this is one of the big ones.

The way things work, I'm not sure Labour were ever in the position to do that, even if they wanted to, which I agree, they didn't.

I see Ashley Dalton name has cropped up again - she gave a very long speech according to the independent article linked above.

SoupDragonsFriend · 15/03/2024 21:37

Search ‘ferret’ on the transcript of today's Hansard and you’ll see a load of politicians delaying things deliberately. They should be ashamed of themselves. I feel ashamed that this is how our political system works, especially about the impact of these MPs actions in delaying a bill that was about safeguarding children, and am appalled at the waste of money in terms of time and overheads.

What does that mean ferret name choices? As in a ferret, furry animal?

I wondered that.

The first bill was about the import of animals, including ferrets and some discussion about pet ferrets and their names ensued.

Yes, it was quite literally MPs name checking their pet ferrets and other pet animal names. Mind boggling bad.

I really thought starmer would be in favour of tying up as much gender stuff as possible before the election. No-one is going to vote labour solely on modernisating the GRC, and everything else has problem attached to it - the treatment of children, women only spaces, the number and type of crimes committed by men and recorded as by women.

I thought every politician would do their best to stop it being an issue in the next election, and voting on policy like this would help that.

Well quite. The question is why aren’t Labour doing that?

It must be due to their donors (or similar). It’s inexplicable otherwise.

Politicians do politics. And it's seldom good politics to agreed too much with your opponents. Labour are doing this, and so is Badenoch. The government KB is a minister in, could introduce this legislation themselves if they wanted to, they've been in power long enough, and they haven't.

None of which is to say that I don't share the OP's bleak view of the future under Labour; they show no sign of freeing themselves from the pull of the genderist movement.

Be next week. But as it states here, she won’t be anywhere near being able to speak. It’s gone. Labour did their job, ensured that women’s and children’s rights were not discussed. Imagine what they will be like in charge of this country.

Labour are awful

What a shame they’d rather avoid a debate than provide clarity

I'm sure that LT was asked to give another date. Couldn't catch it though.
