What a joy it is to read such eloquence from JKR!

Stealing this! Grin

Me too!😆

From his exchange with jkr I think he probably realised he'd cocked up massively and now is enormously relieved and grateful for her generous forgiveness. With any luck he's not only learned something about professional behaviour (well, and general decency) but also a better understanding of what the two sides of the 'debate' really are about.

So I hope they keep him. He may find he needs to channel his inner Neville and have the courage to stand up to some of his friends now.

pickledandpuzzled · 12/03/2024 09:53

I can accept he got caught up in the fervour of the moment and said something despicable, woke up and realised what he’d done and was horrified. I did something similar when I was 11.

The TRArmy’s useful idiots get high on righteousness and sometimes have to suffer morning after regret.

Pandemonium.

BezMills · 12/03/2024 09:46

eh I kind of think claiming a breakdown is a bit much, to be fair - a breakdown where you wake up feeling fine but a bit sorry about what you did, is just a meltdown.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/03/2024 09:20

What he twiXed at JKR seemed so extreme, devoid of context and...stupid I'd actually buy the mental breakdown (drunk or high). Unless he's a true MRA and he just let the mask fall for a moment.

BezMills · 12/03/2024 09:16

I wasn't aware of him before The Breakdown and I bear him no ill will. Hope this is a lesson to him, to not let his twits make a twat of him again.

PriOn1 · 12/03/2024 09:14

They might decide to keep him on, if they don’t think he’s too much of a liability.

I’d certainly never heard of Byline News before and his apology and JK Rowling’s response to it would allow them to let him away with a slapped wrist, should they choose to go in that direction.

BezMills · 12/03/2024 03:07

There is a disciplinary process at which they can consider his apology, his claim it was due to "a breakdown", and JKR acceptance of said apology. Could go either way, he has given them outs to let this go with a wrotten warning type sanction, if they choose

@IcakethereforeIam
Just wanted to let you know that I see what you are doing with your archive link descriptions. 😁

Oh, and isn't it a complete turn up for the books to see a misogynistic man being summarily kicked out for being nasty to a woman, for a change!

It absolutely is!

The Byline TV journalist who called JK the 'c word' has been suspended. https://twitter.com/BylineTV/status/1767289018583077075 Statement by Byline TV:

On 7 March, a producer for Byline TV used misogynistic and deeply unacceptable language in an exchange on X with JK Rowling.

He has been suspended pending a disciplinary process and some of @BylineTV's content is under review for not meeting our editorial standards.

We apologise that this has fallen far short of our journalistic, professional and ethical values.

That would seem, to me at least, to confirm that his apology was driven by his bosses being completely fucked off with him.

I wonder what tipped them over the edge.

Maybe him moaning that he had to apologise? Because it all seemed to be tied up, but no.

We must surely be due an update on IW lecturing and explaining the Law to the Police.

Foster mothers, adoptive mothers, none of them deserving of.a Happy Mothers Day in her eyes, then?

Missed out Step Mothers in your rush to be oh so inclusive. No doubt they are still to be branded as wicked so must not be mentioned.

You are so blinkered and perhaps lacking in ability to think that you completely fail to grasp the point made by JKR.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/03/2024 11:08

Happy mother's day covers foster mothers, adoptive mothers as well as mothers wo gave birth anyway. What wrong with the word mother? Why use birthing parents day. Odd.

Yes indeed. Please make sure you tell all the people who use the latter term in any way other than blindingly obviously satirical.

afternoonoflife · 11/03/2024 11:02

Well I haven’t had my gametes fertilised nor raised any children so I feel excluded from JKR’s Mother’s Day message. Mother’s Day must be widened to include people like me. Have I said me or I enough? I think that’s what Mother’s Day is about, thinking about yourself? It’s a day for me, whether it’s meant to be or not.

You don't have to have given birth to be a Mum.
On Mother's Day instead of just a Happy Mothers Day to mums out there, she chooses to potentially make somebody's life feel a little bit shittier instead
I'll never get that mindset and I'm glad I don't.
Happy Mother's Day to all us Mums out there, hope you're having a lovely day!

I'm an adoptive mum.
a) you've misunderstood the joke
b) I'm not remotely offended even if you are correct and JKR was excluding me. Literally couldn't give less of a shit

She's fighting for us all, we owe her a huge debt, and I love her dearly for it.

It sometimes feels she's the only one with a public/universal platform who isn't prepared for women & girls to be thrown under the Trans bus.

WitchyWitcherson · 11/03/2024 10:15

Very witty, matching JKR's faux-sincerity with faux-offence.

Unless you're actually offended... in which case I urge you to look up the word "satire". It might help you to feel less offended in future ❤

Come now, we can't be having subtlety!

How can one possibly manufacture outrage if one has to take into account that JK's tweet was poking fun at "right think" rather than a damning accusation that only "birthing parents" are worthy of adoration?

BezMills · 11/03/2024 10:46

Women who are raising children which are not their offspring are very special and play a vital role in modern life (probably they always have). Put it this way, this gets me where I live.

IcakethereforeIam · 11/03/2024 10:35

I might be wrong but I suspect most of the people going 'Wah! What about adoptive mothers!', don't give a shit about them except as a tool for performative outrage to own the terf.

I believe there will be exceptions, a minority, who genuinely are sincere. I hope they enjoyed themselves on Mother's Day. They weren't forgotten.

I think that watching JKR running rings around those with inferior intellects* is my new favourite spectator sport.

All the sports I used to watch have men stealing the medals now, anyway.

*who are promoting an ideology leading to destruction of safeguarding structures in place to protect children.
