Despite all the recent WPATH revelations and everythign else we now know Angela Eagle has just tweeted that the next Labour government will:

  • Legislate for a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
  • Make anti-LGBT+ hate crime an aggravated offence *Modernise Gender Recognition processes
  • Appoint an international LGBT+ envoy

I give up. You've contradicted your own post.

Read my actual post. I said said no one was optimistic except for on this issue.

It's a really simple concept.

There is nothing special or mystical about biological motherhood that makes it more important than other forms of parenthood. Fathers and non biological mothers (adoptive or in same sex relationships) are equally important, and should be treated equally.

As has been pointed out, a woman who has given birth has very different needs to the other parent and it's optimal for a breastfeeding child to be in proximity to its mother. My need and my baby's was to not be separated as part of the mother-baby dyad. Both our needs were completely complimentary to the other. It was never my need vs the baby's. My husband didn't have the same needs as me and my baby didn't need him in the same way. Now with teenagers he's absolutely pivotal to their well-being but when they were smaller the best support he gave was to support me in mothering our baby.

Well yes, but isnt the costing normally in the manifesto which is normally published about 3 weeks before the election.

Not sure but based on current policies I wouldn’t say funding is there.

The ‘fully costed’ claim died a bit of a death when they touted major green policy at 2023 conference with that line. Clearly it wasn’t the case and u turned this year.

Maybe they’ll add more funding policies. My view has always been around EU opportunity for a bump but they seem terrified of mentioning it sadly

I specifically said that this issue was the exception.

I'm voting Labour.

These proposals sound thoroughly sensible to me. Looking forward to voting Labour.
Me too! At last some actual clarity. Although I hope this is soon backed up by the front bench.

I'd say these two posts are pretty enthusiastic about the whole thing

Any claim on VAWG, education or NHS has to be qualified with how it will be paid for

Humpty Dumpty strikes again:
“When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”

wont lie and then try to cover it up like with PPE

They ALL lie. Don't kid yourself that Starmer won't

SinnerBoy · 08/03/2024 15:02

Labour positives

  • not the tories
  • wont lie and then try to cover it up like with PPE
  • will give proper funding to the NHS
  • provide proper funding for schools
  • mental health support

how about you give a positive of the tories apart from ‘they know what a woman is’

You don't find that starry-eyed, @ForCoralFox?

I'm also wary when someone says 'oh, you needn't worry about what [Labour MP] says, they aren't/won't be anything important in the party/government'.

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 14:37

ifIwerenotanandroid · 08/03/2024 14:27

It does seem, every time these threads appear, that those touting Labour are younger &/or less experienced & so starry-eyed & gullible (or trying to emotionally blackmail everyone into being so), while the rest of us who've been around the block a few times in terms of living under governments formed by Labour, Tory & coalition parties are leaning back with our arms folded, looking on cynically. We've seen it before. We've heard it before. We don't trust any of them to any great extent. We're trying to work out what's really going on & what's likely to happen in the future, based on our experience of what's happened in the past. We're weighing everything up.

It's grim. But I'd rather make the effort than pretend one party or the other is perfect & anybody who doesn't agree with me is just horrible & nasty & they probably smell.

I haven't read a single post here that is starry eyed about Labour. Not one. Lots of people who think they will be less bad than the Tories, but not one person who is particularly enthusiastic about voting for them, outside of supporting what Angela Eagle (not in the ShadCab) said.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 14:36

Once more for those reading along...

We are not "all against Labour".
They (and their supporters) just need to make a robust case to earn our vote.

Fuck me.

it’s one of many positives if you read a little bit lower.
also - I know that not everyone will vote Labour. I’m following an ABC route personally
you’re all against Labour so why not list the positives of other parties that stand a chance of being part of the government cabinet?

Won't lie about what? Huge if true.

Like the 2004 GRA when Labour set up a huge lie in law ?

They boast about it to this day

I mean, if we're going to imagine away sex, let's just identify as poverty not existing and make it a hate crime to mention it. And VAWG - well no, that doesn't happen and you can be arrested for mentioning or reporting it and oh look! It's vanished! The police have no reports! It's gone! Yay 😊<Insert chorus of shiny happy people>

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 14:18

I'm getting a sense of deja vu...

Define what a woman is - on its own terms, without reference to any other party (i.e. men)

Define what a Labour positive is - on its own terms, without reference to any other party (i.e. THE TORIES)
