Despite all the recent WPATH revelations and everythign else we now know Angela Eagle has just tweeted that the next Labour government will:

  • Legislate for a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
  • Make anti-LGBT+ hate crime an aggravated offence *Modernise Gender Recognition processes
  • Appoint an international LGBT+ envoy

Expressing disagreement isn't lecturing though is it? I have just stated my views, but as you have determined that I've never fulfilled my womanly destiny by giving birth, I better shut up because my views don't deserve to be expressed.

You don't have to have given birth, or even be female to understand that pregnancy and birth aren't just 'grow and remove'; My DH knew before we'd ever contemplated children.

Womanly destiny pah, misrepresenting again. Women who are 100% positive they never, ever want children get this stuff. Unless they're so pomo-addled and open-minded they've lost the ability to empathise with other women.

If you are an actual bio woman (and I have doubts) you're showing a startling lack of understanding of what faces us AS WOMEN, and pushing an airy 'progressive' agenda that is actually pure fantasy at best, regressive at worst. Unrelated to any pregnancies or lack thereof you've ever experienced. That's all.

This thread has reminded me of the time, just before I went on maternity leave, when I insisted I'd still come to a work social that was scheduled 10 days after my due date.

'Of course I'll be there' I told them. 'His (i.e. baby's) father will look after him.'

As it turned out, I still couldn't even walk.

We get numerous anti women posters on here lecturing us about feminism, our bodies and displaying their profound ignorance of feminism and safeguarding children - so your posts are not a novelty

What's an international T+ envoy going to do when they're out and about?

I wasn't talking about you personally. And I'd love to know how you know I haven't given birth. Womanly intuition?

Maybe a free clownfish? Move with the times.

JanesLittleGirl · 08/03/2024 18:23

Will Labour be promising a free owl for every household like they did in 2014? I know that it was a joke but helped me to vote Labour in 2015.

I don't think that surrogacy is 'selling babies' and I do think the 'secretions' as you so dismissively call them, should be tested.

I also think that surrogacy should be regulated, but that it's a woman's choice, like sex work, and gives hope to many people. I don't see why trans women shouldn't breastfeed if they can produce milk that is safe and nutritious. I don't know if they can, or will be able to in the future, but I don't see what's wrong with it in theory. Wanting to nurture your child is not a fetish.

Okay,you don't like 'secretions'.

How about 'effluent from moobs'?

Well, only one of them will just have given birth after 9 months of pregnancy so while there is no lesser, they have hugely different needs.

But that doesn't mean that one should go back to work while the other stays home alone, or that one should spend more time caring for the baby.

JanesLittleGirl · 08/03/2024 18:10

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 16:46

It had nothing to do with seeing women as resources. In a lesbian couple, where only one is the biological mother, is the other lesser I'm some way?

Mothers - the only group to get our experiences dismissed as "that old chestnut" by those with no knowledge or experience of pregnancy and childbirth. Whatever happened to affirmation?

Oh, I forgot, women and babies don't count

It may be “lived experience “ but it’s not the right sort so can safely be ignored.

lifeturnsonadime · 08/03/2024 17:47

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 08/03/2024 17:43

😂
Lol, no.
Neither of them are trans.

That's interesting because it often explains mothers who turn a blind eye to the harms done to trans identifying children.

I don't know any women who have all the facts in front of them who agree with Labour's approach on this but each to their own and all that.

It is a very common trope told in the patriarchy that motherhood, being pregnant, giving birth, is 'nothing special', Coralfox, but I disagree

There is nothing special or mystical about biological motherhood that makes it more important than other forms of parenthood. Fathers and non biological mothers (adoptive or in same sex relationships) are equally important, and should be treated equally.

Your statement diminishes the experience, impact and effect being a biological mother has on both mother and child. True patriarchy and fits neatly into the left wing ideas that bonds, birth and biology are not important.

Fatherhood and adoptive mothers are not equal to being the biological mother. That doesn't mean they aren't important or good, but it doesn't compare to being the biological mother. Maternity leave is not parental leave and is not just for raising the child the first months/year.

Think about: would you really say that if a mother loses a child in the last weeks of pregnancy or during birth, they shouldn't have maternity leave? Or that a mother who gives their child up for adoption or surrogacy, should be back working within a day? But adoptive parents and fathers should have the right to a year off?

Adoptive parents should have leave for the benefit of the child. Fathers should receive leave for the benefit of their bond with their child. But mothers should come first as they need recovery on top of bonding with their child.

I completely agree with you and come at this from the perspective of an adopted person.

Have you given birth to a child who now identifies as trans by any chance?

Am I allowed an opinion?

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 17:29

Well, have you?

That's a no, then.

sanluca · 08/03/2024 17:36

In a lesbian couple, where only one is the biological mother, is the other lesser I'm some way?

In a certain way yes, in other ways no. Both mothers will be the parent, both will have the bond with the child, but only one will be the mother, will have carried and nurtured the child in a way the other won't have and nothing can undo that. I am also not sure if lesser is the right word, multi faceted maybe? That extra dimension you are denying exists but 99,9% of mothers who gave birth will say is there, as will the children in question.

I always wonder why people are so adamant to deny this exists, when there is so much research to show it does. Usually these people have ulterior motives, like being adoptive mother, mother through surrogacy, men.

Did someone really just explain to us how breast pumping works? On a parenting website? Grin

To be fair, I was totally clueless about the physical toll of giving birth, or how long the after effects can continue. Hell I didn't even realise you bled afterwards. So I guess I shouldn't be too hard on the gob smacking ignorance on display here. It's not exactly doing much to persuade me back to voting Labour though.

I've no desire to persuade anyone to vote Labour. I'm a very reluctant supporter of the current Labour Party and their victory is a foregone conclusion, so I don't see the point in trying to persuade anyone. A Labour government is coming, and with it I suspect some positive changes for the rights of transgender people. That's the reality.

teawamutu · 08/03/2024 17:32

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 17:25

It's just like in the 70s. Huge overlap between certain feminists and the natural childbirth crew who insisted on a very narrow and restrictive vision of motherhood and family life. No formula, no caesareans, no pain relief, and no time for yourself because the baby must be attached to you 24/7.

Neither of you are remotely right, so much so that I cannot believe you're posting in good faith.

A bottle of formula can be a life-saver for a breastfeeding mother who needs a break. This is NOT AT ALL the same thing as giving a man drugs to induce some sort of discharge, failing to do anything like proper testing, and then feeding it to a baby.

This is not in the baby's interests, and it is not regressive to say so.

I had medicalised births by necessity. I worked full time from early on. I breastfed because I read the literature and concluded it would be best if I could, and I was lucky enough to be able to although it was bloody hard at times.

None of that is the Puritan bullshit you're ascribing to me. Or I suspect anyone else on this thread.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 17:29

I've had two sections. And mixed fed. What the FUCK do you know about the choices mothers have to make? Or the tolls it takes on us? Absolutely fuck all, that's clear.

I wasn't talking about you personally. And I'd love to know how you know I haven't given birth. Womanly intuition?
