I think you missed the point, hon.

Anyway it's "chestfeeding" nowadays.

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 11:36

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:34

Huh??

Well the suggestion was that in a two parent family, the parent who has given birth should obviously have more parental leave because they will be breastfeeding. But not everyone breastfeeds.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:34

Huh??

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 11:33

SammyScrounge · 08/03/2024 11:24

😆

So women who choose not to breastfeed, or who can't, shouldn't be entitled to maternity leave?

Sureaseggs44 · 08/03/2024 11:32

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/03/2024 21:18

Oh God they are going to lose so many votes.
They’d better be expecting to win by a big margin.

They will only loose votes if women are aware of this . It is on Twitter but will it be big headlines in mainstream media ? Starmer will minimise it .

DrBlackbird · 08/03/2024 11:30

I really have to stop but does… I think if you probe a bit you very easily uncover how not feminist gender critical feminism really is mean, gasp, we’ve all been exposed for the conservative evangelist far right trad women that we so obviously are here on the FWR? Quick, someone tell MNHQ they better rename the board.

PS edited to add apology for derailing. I’ll stop and go sit on the naughty step reflecting on how I must do better as a feminist.

Equal parental leave in not a controversial or an anti feminist idea. I think if you probe a bit you very easily uncover how not feminist gender critical feminism really is. Who really argues, in 2024, for women to be left home alone, doing all the childcare? It's unbelievable.

I am a woman and a feminist. Radical and gender critical feminism has always represented a minority of feminists, because what most women want is choices and opportunities, not to be pigeonholed.

Edited

You want to give away our rights without even understanding why we need them.

SammyScrounge · 08/03/2024 11:24

ArabellaScott · 08/03/2024 10:47

Breastfeeding is also regressive, I know. Biology is so old fashioned.

😆

duc748 · 08/03/2024 11:23

Wow! This is the most explicit yet from a senior Labour figure, isn't it? After what seems to have been lately, if not reverse-ferreting, at least a bit of backing down? You can fuck off to the far side of fuck, Angela, and then fuck off some more.

What's that Mumsnet advice about we can never be sure that everyone on mumsnet is who they say they are?

Denying the reality of women's bodies, claiming safeguarding expertise while posting comments that display profound ignorance of safeguarding, denying women's biological reality of pregnancy and birth. Challenging women for failing to protest about the imprisonment of rapists, murderers paedophiles etc and throwing about comments like "anti trans" and transphobic?

I know who makes comments like that and they're not feminists or any friend to women and children. 😎

These proposals sound thoroughly sensible to me. Looking forward to voting Labour.

I'm an adult human female who doesn't believe people can change sex. How on earth can they, realistically. People can wear dresses (it's always dresses) or identify as a chair for all I care but get the men out of our spaces and sports. All men.

Edenvale · 08/03/2024 10:55

There should be equal amounts of parental leave for both parents in a two parent family so that they can share parenting duties equally. This should not just be a women's issue.

Tell me you've never given birth without telling me you've never given birth.

The full manifesto isnt published yet but the aim is around improving the quality and availability of provision.

I suppose my view would be that a conservative government will carry the same expectation of a swift return to work when structuring benefits and maternity rights but is less likely to ensure the quality of childcare and availability of childcare is there. This is based on thier recent changes to expected working hours of benefit claimants and the mess of the 'free hours' which seems to be reducing availability and costing parents more. Then comparing it to the sure start centre i was able to use and the 'old' expectstions of hours to work

It'd be great to set all manifesto promises side by side when published to see how approaches differ.

Spendonsend · 08/03/2024 11:02

ArabellaScott · 08/03/2024 10:40

Hm. We have had childcare reform introduced in Scotland to much fanfare, and there have been many issues. For one, not enough qualified staff, so there is a risk of substandard care. For two, it seems a very neolib policy to me, to force mothers back to work asap instead of providing good maternity cover and helping parents to care for their young children. A perennial issue within feminism, I suppose, and goes right to the heart of whether we are focussing on economics or also considering other issues.

It may well help the economy, by monetising the care of infants. And perhaps make women better off financially. There are other effects, too, though.

Hadn't heard about the 999 service, sounds interesting.

I’m voting Labour. Any woman who believes that the Tories are on their side is deluded. They’re desperate and saying what they need to, to whoever will fall for it. Please don’t.

I'm waiting to see what their gender policies actually are. I am also writing to my labour party candidate about my concerns on this issue. If Labour do not put the protection of women and girls above access to women only spaces by men who identify as women then I absolutely will not vote for them. I will never vote Tory and may well end up spoiling my ballot paper.

She is funded by GLAAD. Money talks.

Really? I didn't know that! When you say funded, in what way?

Edited to add: okay, I did some homework 😉and found some interesting info on this blog

Ooh Angela eagle has been paid tens of thousands of pounds by trans supporters. And you say Tories are corrupt

I feel like I've got into the TARDIS and stepped out into the 1950s. I thought this was supposed to be a feminist forum.

Their partner should be off too, to support them and focus on being a new parent. It's very regressive to argue for primary care in the early years to fall to women, left alone at home.

what? and the tories are celebrating them? bullshit
Dont act like the tories are a viable option and neither is ‘spoiling your vote’ as it falls into the hands of the tories who have fucked everyone over and not just women

"BUT THE TORIES....."

Tell me all about Labour. I'm all ears. Willing to be convinced.
