Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I think I’m being targeted because I said Adult Human Female publicly.

I’ve name changed but I’ve been here a LONG time.

I posted in a political discussion about the definition of women and the use of cis-gender. I don’t consider myself transphobic, I was absolutely clear that I defend the rights of everyone to live and identify how they want, including protecting female only spaces, and that I define a woman as an adult human female. In 2 posts.

I’ve been banned from the page, trolled, my business has been targetted via its overarching company (I have a franchise) and I’m spooked. We live above the shop, and my kids are here and they know where I am.

What prompted me to post was the comments about Jess Phillips being a coward. She is trying to do all this publicly, in a world where it’s even more dangerous to be a woman. I’m so angry and feel so helpless about it all. I’m not easily cowed, but these utter bullies don’t fight a fair fight. They’re not arguing about a philosophical position, they’re attempting to ERADICATE anyone that disagrees with their fucking ridiculous world view. And I feel like there isn’t anything I can do without risking my family. That’s it, really.

What did you say?

I'm sure you said something other than "adult human female"?

i said a woman is an adult human female. I think you’ll find I made that clear in my opening posts. That doesn’t suit you though, does it?

What type of thing do you think she could have said that would warrant the reaction she talks about?

Are you accusing her of lying? That's very "be kind" of you.

Don't be stupid. I, or anyone else, can boycott and avoid any business whose ethos or behaviour I don't agree with. Isn't this how we all live our lives.

We don't all send death threats and target employers 🙄

Yep, Balhammom me choosing to not buy bras (or wanked in knickers) in M&S is totes the same as “my business has been targetted via its overarching company (I have a franchise) and I’m spooked. We live above the shop, and my kids are here and they know where I am.”

I haven’t spoken formally to the police but I had a chat with a mate who is GC and with a major force in the DV section and she said there’s nothing to get hold of yet. The scant details I have are untraceable. And there have been no outright threats. It’s “just” rattling chains in the dark.

Your friend works in the DV division, not the hate crime division and she isn't the CPS. OP report your fears, there's things that can be done to help. Like panic buttons etc. I can't acctually believe someone's made you feel like this or gone to such lengths to identify you for an opinion.

I had absolutely no idea this is what is happening to people. It's disgraceful, something needs to be done.

Heylo · 27/02/2024 07:37

Hi @GrandKarber also - I’m friends with a prominent GC campaigner she’s in the media frequently since last year and she’s had direct threats online and via post (they know where she lives). Nothing has happened to her and we’ve spoken about it (police involved too), and we both agreed that it doesn’t fit wit the narrative TRAs trying to promote that trans ppl victimised / oppressed. Tactics appear to be target women quietly until they shut up. I hope you’re ok. X

unwashedanddazed · 27/02/2024 00:06

A ring doorbell or similar that records anyone at your door might help you feel safer and will provide evidence if needed.

I'm pretty certain they won't turn up at your home, they're usually just gobby blue-haired teenagers, but I understand your fears if your address has been given out.

JanesLittleGirl · 26/02/2024 20:55

I have boycotted a few large businesses because of their actions. I don't remember doxxing their CXOs or threatening them or their family though.

WitchyWitcherson · 26/02/2024 20:34

Balhammom · 26/02/2024 18:20

Assume you’re new here?

Every time a business or person does anything remotely pro-trans, there is immediately a MN post demanding they’re boycotted or cancelled.

I believe you're mistaken. Boycotts happen to businesses that either seek to eradicate women or are actively misogynistic, not "pro trans" ones. Unless being pro trans is about eroding women's rights?

99% of people here are fine with adults living how they wish (assuming no harm comes to others) and for trans people to have good health outcomes too. See the post about the specialist service for trans and non binary people for example.

They’re not arguing about a philosophical position, they’re attempting to ERADICATE anyone that disagrees with their fucking ridiculous world view.

It's shit and what makes it even more infuriating is they won't even spell out what their supposed world view actually is. What is this thing, "woman", that they say transwomen are? If they cared, they'd try and communicate it. They don't, because threatening women is the real core of it.

PurpleBugz · 26/02/2024 19:18

I can't offer advice more than you have already had. But be strong they are trying to shut you up they are cowards who won't actually do anything to you physically they are just trying to stop your income.

Sending you strength. It's hard to speak up but you did the right thing the more of us who do the smaller a target we each have on our backs.

Peskysquirrel · 26/02/2024 18:47

As if being trolled and having your business and home targetted by a total stranger is in any way comparable to MNers exercising their right to boycott a business whose ethos they personally feel they don't agree with.

Huh?
Like the UK’s first trans and non-binary domestic violence refuge, which has been posted on here and pretty much everyone thinks is a good idea?

soupycustard · 26/02/2024 18:28

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's terrifying. If you're in fear that you or your family could get hurt, it is entirely reasonable to go to the police. Please do. Strictly speaking, if you are in fear, that can point to an assault. I know that's a bit academic and the police probably won't actually do anything, but it's about getting it logged so that if - god forbid - anything did happen, there is more pressure to act.
It will very probably be fine because these people are just awful shouty bullies but I don't think most would actually act.

Balhammom · 26/02/2024 18:20

Jokingnotjoking · 26/02/2024 18:16

I hear you. But don’t worry. There are millions and millions and millions of us that agree with you.

SoupDragonsFriend · 26/02/2024 18:12

Just to be sure, I presume that when you are talking about being banned etc, it's from some other social media and not here?

Can you keep a diary of events from now on and, when you have the energy, backdate it to include what's already happened so that you have the full story in one place? Keep the paper trail too.

Sending strength.

OP - they won’t do anything to you. They spook to silence you from speaking out again. They know the mainstream media won’t report their threats eg rape threats / death threats but they know they’d ruin there ‘am I safe here/ trans ppl are so oppressed’ cover for their agenda if they carried out any actual acts of violence. They’re just messing with your head try not to worry x

I was thinking this too, I know it feels immediate and threatening to you now but maybe the worst is over - you've been threatened, you feel exposed, but hopefully it's just empty threats from cowardly bullies. Keep documenting things, do what knowledgeable MNers advise you to do, but also keep your head up, you've done nothing wrong.
No way out but through, but you've lots of support here.

Abhannmor · 26/02/2024 16:34

Some sensible advice here. I feel so enraged on your behalf. All I can offer is solidarity on this forum. 💐

Runor · 26/02/2024 16:17

Also, write to your MP, Rosie Duffield and eg Miriam Cates/Kemi Badenoch. The more we log this stuff, the more we enable our lawmakers to raise it and protect us

fromorbit · 26/02/2024 15:24

Talk to Free Speech Union in case it escalates as others have said.

It is terrible you have to go through this. Remember though many of these types are cowards. They want to bully you, but they can't go too far without revealing themselves and in 2023 they can't escalate easily anonymously without getting pushback.

Fear is what they rely on.

If they do take it further you can retaliate by widening the frame of reference. Remember they targeted you for defending a female MP in a time when female MPs are under serious threat.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/24/three-female-mps-given-bodyguards-after-concerns-over-safety#

The people targeting you could be serial harassers of female politicians, part of a wave of misogyny.
