The hashtag for this year is #InspireInclusion, so I can already imagine the content that marketing departments are readying for the 8th March.

I'm guessing it's too late to suggest #ExclusivelyFemale as an option?

@DadJoke - my thinking on this is that there is no mention of transgender people because the TWAW myth has become so widely accepted in these type of groups. When they are referring to "women and girls" they are including trans women and girls in that catch-all, because in their view it's one and the same thing.

Peskysquirrel · 28/02/2024 12:34

I'm sure TRAs will have no problem making IWD all about them. Just be patient!

DadJoke · 28/02/2024 12:24

Froodwithatowel · 27/02/2024 18:55

why don't you criticise it when it actually happens?

😂

I',m 100% sure that trans women will be mentioned in the context of International Women's Day along side all the other events which are happening. I'm sure you'll have no problem making IWD all about that. Just be patient!

crunchermuncher · 27/02/2024 19:34

Wasn't there an alternative day last year for cunty women, global women's day I think?

Just googled it, can't find any reference to it at all this year, but even an article about last year. Hmm.

It really doesn't take a lot of intelligence to work out why women are slightly pissed off that in the face of multiple days and months dedicated to TQ+ - which includes dominating anything that mentions LGB - historically the one single day supposedly for celebrating women is usually absolutely full of male people with TQ+ identities. Who cannot bear for women to have even a crumb, never mind have the capacity to actually celebrate or centre anyone but themselves, even for 24 hours.

Again again your posts are critical and snide about women daring to do anything but clap and cheer their own oppression and subordination.

Edited

Not a single mention of transgender women, and you are preemptively pissed off. If it's so prevalent, why don't you criticise it when it actually happens?

@DuesToTheDirt the IWD supports women in Iran and Afghanistan. There are also events which support women's charities devoted to fighting violence against women. Or you can google for mentions of trans women and complain about them.

I want the day to be nonstop about the horrors that are being done to girls and women in Afghanistan. Those are the women the world is simply forgetting, the one group which is not allowed to get education or to hold most jobs or, indeed, to even go to a park or a hairdresser.

If there's space, Iranian women's fight for more freedom could be reported and supported, too. And the general violence against women etc.

Well said.

You'll be pleased to hear the word "transgender" is not mentioned once, though I am sure that IWD celebrations will mention them, so you can save your high dudgeon for that eventuality.

On an organizational or group basis, there are many ways to ensure the needs, interests and aspirations of women and girls are valued and included. Organizations and groups can #InspireInclusion through action in areas such as:

  • forging women's economic empowerment
  • recruiting, retaining and developing female talent
  • supporting women and girls into leadership, decision-making, business and STEM
  • designing and building infrastructure meeting the needs of women and girls
  • helping women and girls make informed decisions about their health
  • involving women and girls in sustainable agriculture and food security
  • providing women and girls with access to quality education and training
  • elevating women and girl's participation and achievement in sport
  • promoting creative and artistic talent of women and girls
  • addressing further areas supporting the advancement of women and girls

International Women's Day 2024 campaign theme is 'Inspire Inclusion'

What's International Women's Day 2024 theme? IWD 2024 campaign theme is #InspireInclusion

I think the main point is, that there is nothing official.

Anyone who dumbly follows something without understanding its origins and purpose is part of the problem.

Also at the moment, despite a few very active and effective groups, current feminism is very passive and accepting.

Its the same as when complaining that only right wing papers report of sex based rights, when the real issue is why doesn't the left do anything.

So as I have been trying to say, on one level you dont have to follow either the marketing web site or the UN.

The real problem is that women dont see themselves as initiators.

If you want to celebrate IWD do it for your own reasons. For all I know is some areas women will prioritise closure of services.

ie I am trying to stimulate what used to be usual.

If we really care about anything then promote that.

Dont just step in line with everyone else.

If we all did that, then it would be come obvious that those using the marketing slogan are not really committed or interested in what women really want. They are just empty performers of a meaningless ritual.

LittleMissViper · 26/02/2024 07:09

But if the unofficial slogan is widely picked up and used on IWD this year, then we're likely to be bombarded with articles introducing businesses interpretation of what 'inspiring inclusion' for women means, and the UN slogan lost in the midst.

At which point does the unofficial become the official through critical mass? For every person that hears the unofficial slogan and believes it to be the official slogan, does it not become the official slogan in their eyes?

Is this not just another example of narratives regarding women being changed for commercial and/or activist purposes? And if so, what could we do about it?

IwantToRetire · 25/02/2024 23:43

So the commercial group seems to be infiltrating widely.

I suspect that Alexa gets info from google. And I have noticed on there it no longer works as a proper search engine ie it doesn't give you all information that you can then look through, it gives you the most popular or shared.

And in terms of the internet the registering of the URL internationalwomensday means that it comes up as the obvious response to a search, that then means from that point on because it comes up first it then gets shared more.

That was one of the points made in the old articles I was looking for. By copyrighting a phrase the mainstream then assumes it is legit.

The point being that no other women's / feminist group would think they should do anything as unethical as appropriating something that is communal.

Makes you think we should all buy about web addresses (they actually aren't that expensive) so that commercial exploitation cant get hold of them.

Imangine if some reactionary group bought the url / web address womenwontwheesht and posted information about women who are disruptive and anti social. Which do you think would get more hits, a web address of some random hashtags #womenwontwheesht

LittleMissViper · 25/02/2024 22:31

Out of curiosity, I asked Amazon Alexa what the theme was this year for International Women's Day.

"Inspire Inclusion", she duly advised.

So the commercial group seems to be infiltrating widely.

I think I might start a thread later this week about this fake organisation. I am surprised it is still being used / quoted, but suspect it is because (as intended by the hoaxers) to be a business opportunity.

What is sad it that a number of women's groups have passively accepted it (haven't the heard of google or any other search engine?).

Was pleased to see that in the sunday times a female journalists (who I am afraid are usually the worst lazy suspects) referred to the UN slogan, and how too many are still mindlessly following the business exploiter.

Also had thought about a thread because I have found (after giving up my friday evening) copies of the articles written by Women's Peace News at the time Ventura Capital started to coopt IWD.

They were hard to find because sadly Women's Peace News no longer exists and some scented candle mindfulness type group has bought the URL.

Looking forward to the day when gender critical will have been coopted by a fashion company specialising in pink and blue clothing!

If I had any money I would place a bit on this happening.

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 25/02/2024 08:11

Any pink squirrels? @LittleMissViper look over there not here... don't bother your little heads.. look at the pretty stuff over there...

LittleMissViper · 25/02/2024 08:06

Good to know that it's not the 'official' hashtag. Given that I've seen two local companies already using it (to sell pink things, no less), I will be interested to see how prevalent it is on the day.

@IwantToRetire good advice thanks, will do.

IwantToRetire · 24/02/2024 23:09

I just don’t get this slogan. How is inclusion inspired, in practice?

There isn't anything to get. It had nothing to do with women. It has nothing to do with IWD.

As pointed out up thread it is someone trying to exploit the day.

Just ignore it and if you want to celebrate IWD come up with your whole slogon or even organise your own event.

Please dont waste time or space on FWR discussing something concocted by a marketing company.

Runskiyoga · 24/02/2024 08:59

four legs good two legs better
'Once a politician can convince the populace (or the animalace) of a little lie, he can start to think big and begin coming up with some whoppers.'

Froodwithatowel · 24/02/2024 08:09

Yes. Inclusion to someone of that politics is actually mad snobbery. It means basically 'I and my mates must have whatever we want, and the riff raff should count themselves lucky we permit them anything at all'.

It's a way of re establishing a ruling class/aristocracy just dressed up in a lot of fig leaves to try and hide it a bit. What really amuses me, is that someone of this political position not only will do this, but will bore to Olympic level about the evils of colonialism, and not have the basic IQ to be able to realise their own hypocrisy. They are all for colonialism. Enthusiastically. So long as they're on the winning side at all times.

TempestTost · 24/02/2024 06:25

IcakethereforeIam · 23/02/2024 14:41

Inclusion, like woke and diversity is one of those words that once I'd have been all for but now, more often than not, it gets my hackles up. Because it excludes as much as it includes. If you don't subscribe to the approved set of beliefs: you're a bigot, a transphobe, a terf, a Karen.

I think next year they should drop all the subtlety, just have 'twaw' as the slogan.

It's a weasel word, like diversity. It's meaningless without a particular context, and the assumption that it is an unmitigated good is facile.

What is peculiar is that even the DEI types are happy with exclusion, of the kind that would have in the past be seen to be directly discriminatory, as long as you are excluding the right sort of people, which is to say people that they see as oppressors, so people who are white (or white adjacent,) straight, or "cis" among others.

IwantToRetire · 24/02/2024 01:27

I like mother nature is a terf!!!! Star

stealtheatingtunnocks · 24/02/2024 01:21

can we have our own terf island theme next year?
”women won’t Wheest”?
”labour losing women”?
”mother nature is a terf”?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/02/2024 01:06

NecessaryScene · 23/02/2024 14:30

It's not for you, is it? You're not the target audience.

It's really for DEI departments and men who like taunting women.

Exactly.
