This is what happens when someone is indulged and allowed to railroad over other people - in this case women. Had BC stepped out from under Stonewall's yoke in the first place and told Emily to remain in Emily's sex class for cycling - even if they were struggling to succeed - then Emily would have had time to reconcile the consequences of their decisions with their racing career.
It beggars belief that a born male can repeatedly gaslight the population that they are now a woman and get an audience from simpering journalists in order to threaten their way into women's sports.

No - which should have been said to Emily from the outset.

Helleofabore · 20/02/2024 20:00

Imagine too with the huge bank of wins that US male cyclists have accrued, I suggest that this will blow any credibility that Harper’s study would have shown.

The claim around fairness simply cannot withstand the number of male wins over the past 12-18 months. And the number of women leaving the sport. Nor when males shoulder barge and push bikes into female competitors to try to win?

Has Bridges simply not kept up? Did they fall down a hole and not see any of this?

AvacadoFieldsForever · 20/02/2024 20:00

We can't all get everything we want exactly how we want it

This. A million times.

HermioneWeasley · 20/02/2024 19:59

Another one who would LOVE Emily to bring a court case

Justme56 · 20/02/2024 19:56

@LoobiJee I don’t understand that either. At the level Emily was cycling would they not have been required to prove testosterone levels to compete when they were allowed in the female division. In both the old and new they would have had to ‘out’ themselves surely. I have to admit I don’t know much about testing for testosterone.

EmilysNailVarnish · 20/02/2024 19:53

Since British Cycling changed their policy, I don’t think any of the TW who were competing in domestic women’s cycling have continued to race. Funny that?
Some have headed to non-BC races where they can get their gender identity affirmed and celebrated.
Emily’s mate Cara Dixon has taken womens gravel and long distance race titles.

pressedclaycup · 20/02/2024 19:46

I saw this individual on C4 news tonight crying about it being unsafe to compete in the open competition and how their human rights were being violated. Where is there concern for female cyclists who would be unsafe competing against males like Emily? This male plans to take there ban to court to ensure all TW can compete alongside actual females. Selfish, entitled behaviour, its all about them and their validation.

I feel like trans activists are ramping up again after some sound defeats last year.

AliceA2021 · 20/02/2024 19:40

Two Trans cyclists beat women, slow hand clap to your biological advantages Emily...

This but doesn't seem to make sense to me:

"Bridges, who has undergone transition and is using testosterone blockers, challenges the validity of the peer-reviewed studies referenced by British Cycling and others. These studies purportedly show that transgender women who have suppressed testosterone maintain a performance advantage even after puberty." (my emphasis)

Hmm. I think that they've put the word "even" in the wrong place. Maybe it was meant to say this:
These studies purportedly show that even transgender women who have suppressed testosterone maintain a performance advantage after puberty."

That interview is maddening:

E.B. [Competing in the open race] is not safe.

Any reasonable journalist: Oh right, why is that?

E.B. It normalises violence against trans people.

Not the guy from ITV: Could you explain that?

E.B. The judge said Transphobia was a factor in Brianna's murder.

If only someone had asked: and that means you should get to cycle with women why?

I think that even asking Bridges about competing in the open category is something that wouldn't have happened a year ago.

MrsMitford3 · 20/02/2024 19:30

Bridges expressed concerns about her safety if she were to compete alongside men and disapproved of transgender women being compelled to disclose their identity in order to participate in the category."

The screaming hypocrisy of this-so it wouldn't be safe for Emily to race with the men which Emily did fairly recently but still can't see how Emily-a biological male- would make women feel unsafe if they had to race against Emily in the women's division.

It is NOT a ban. One can race against others that are the same biologically.

We can't all get everything we want exactly how we want it. And his choices have consequences. Like this.

Wizzadorra70 · 20/02/2024 19:27

What an interview. Emily is feeling rather sorry for themselves.

Has she ever thought that wearing lycra sort of gives her penis away....??

EmilysNailVarnish · 20/02/2024 19:22

I am thankful for Emily and his mum for pushing this issue into the public’s consciousness. They finally forced cycling to stop hiding from the issue. British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials have now changed their policy but we must remember that British Cycling still allow self-id in non-competitive womens cycling and Audax UK hasn’t budged one bit.

suafa · 20/02/2024 19:21

Every time the camera panned back to show Emily and the interviewer I couldn't help but notice their size difference.

Seat Emily next to a group of female cyclists and the height, reach and strength difference would clearly demonstrate how unfair it would be for Emily to compete.

AliceA2021 · 20/02/2024 19:19

'He's a lady doing lady things' and so should be allowed to do whatever wants. That's man's thinking, move aside women here I come., grt out the way. Me, me, ME.

Sod off. All women's sports for biological women.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 20/02/2024 19:17

Please go to court please go to court please go to court

fromorbit · 20/02/2024 19:14

Bridges is the UKs Lia Thomas.

If you remember British Cycling were totally captured and would have rolled over, but Bridges was so spectacularly obnoxious that it motivated mass resistance from women cyclists and British Cycling finally had to do something though it would have preferred not to.

Without Bridges women's elite cycling would be over in the UK.

I think it would only be fair if Bridges could be given an award for this - "best background male contribution to supporting women's cycling" perhaps

SamW98 · 20/02/2024 19:13

A ban is a ban. You can say you can compete in the open category, but we’re women – we should be able to race in the women’s category,” she said.

Reading this all I can hear is David Walliams character saying ‘but I’m a lady doing lady things’

WingingItSince1973 · 20/02/2024 19:13

I meant open category! Sorry have just woken up from a nap 😴😴😴

puffyisgood · 20/02/2024 19:13

hey, you can't keep a good man down.

WingingItSince1973 · 20/02/2024 19:12

Oh my days! What a self pitying interview! So you feel unsafe around men and don't want to race in an uncategorised race? Well how do you think us women feel about men in our spaces???

0psiedasiy · 20/02/2024 19:10

Just seen the interview with itv tonight, watched with my dh And he said 'but your not a woman' I felt like shouting out 'you have finally got it'! I'm so happy! I have been banging on about it for years and he's always been a bit live and let live...

Why does Bridges wonder if it would be dangerous for him to compete in the open category?
