What do we need? My list so far.

Funding for the Bridge challenge: crowdsourced
Venue: let's apply for a permit so that the hearing can be in the Albert Hall or a stadium venue. Something that will take a decent size of audience and is set up for livestreaming.
When: asap.

Extras: copious refreshments and lots of facilities, comfy seats, safe places for support animals and childcare.

What else?

I love Sharon Davies’ tweet

“Male cyclists please make Emily Bridges feel welcome. Just as women often make transmen that’s trans ID’ing females welcome. Everyone should be able to participate in fair & safe sport. That’s all that females want funnily enough. Unless male cyclists you’re a danger of course? Then it’s a men’s job to sort that out!”

Take it to court, Emmers, I'll bring some popcorn.

SabrinaThwaite · 22/02/2024 16:27

Times article from Feb 2023:

The next set of tests in the study involving Bridges are planned for March and Harper expects to publish some findings this year.

Maybe I blinked and missed it?

Helleofabore · 22/02/2024 16:17

Well Bridges said that Harper's study was coming soon.... But wasn't that said last year as well. So who knows.

KohlaParasaurus · 22/02/2024 16:08

I'm not hearing a groundswell of female elite cyclists clamouring for their lovely friend Emily to be permitted to race against them.

SabrinaThwaite · 22/02/2024 16:03

Will Harper’s case study of a single MtF transitioner ever be published?

It seems to have been on-going for years now.

Feckedupbundle · 22/02/2024 11:24

Awww, poor Emily. Perhaps Emily could take up Park Running instead?

Hoardasurass · 21/02/2024 18:51

ArabellaScott · 20/02/2024 22:23

Bridges expressed concerns about her safety if she were to compete alongside men

But, Emily ...* *

Anyway. Bring the court case! Please televise it! I will sponsor all the support animals needed!

That could be very expensive shall we crowd fund it?

Yes, sorry!
Hulking great chap who claims he's a woman.

That is the first time I have seen a photograph that shows more than Emily's head and shoulders. It definitely dispels any myths that Emily is a woman.

Not to mention Emily's interesting stated belief that they would only be recognised as a male with a TQ+ identity if participating outside of the women's category.

JanesLittleGirl · 21/02/2024 17:20

Just in case you think that the ratio of shoulder width to hip width is the result of the training regime, here's a picture of Dame Katherine Grainger, Britain's most successful woman rower:

MrsToddsShortcut · 21/02/2024 16:30

Whichever you look at it, Emily is unusually tall which I would have thought was a fairly obvious advantage.

Unless, of course, a non-elite male is accepted on to the female elite squad instead.

As Zachily was place about 400th in the men's rankings, them probably wasn't elite enough to get paid. And as we've seen from women vs boys, a man may be ranked about 10,000th and still be faster than a female Olympic gold winner.

And them says that them has no advantage, which is probably another Humpty Dumptyinsm.

Froodwithatowel · 21/02/2024 13:49

At this point the world and its wife knows that Emily is a male person with a TQ+ identity, because Emily has told the press at length.

So no, I don't think competing in a category other than the women's is going to 'out' Emily, Emily has outed themselves very thoroughly without this proving in any way dangerous. Unless you count the genocide of hearing the word 'no'

CactusMactus · 21/02/2024 13:32

He's got a very big spam.

Signalbox · 21/02/2024 13:19

Why does no one ever ask for an elaboration of these ‘concerns’? What does Emily believe that male cyclists would do to her?

I think the idea is that by competing with men it will “out” a TW as not being an actual woman so they will be at risk from society as a whole. This argument assumes that we are all oblivious Bridges’ obvious maleness and it would only dawn on us if Bridges competed with other men.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/02/2024 13:06

I read somewhere that being on the 'elite' squad means that the athlete is being paid a salary in order to concentrate on full-time training. Loss of the elite status means having to earn a living elsewhere.

Unless, of course, a non-elite male is accepted on to the female elite squad instead.

RedToothBrush · 20/02/2024 18:01

Love the bias in the headline.

Here's the quote:
The new rules forbade transgender cyclists from competing with biological women, and resulted in an “open” category. To Bridges, however, that constitutes a ban.

“A ban is a ban. You can say you can compete in the open category, but we’re women – we should be able to race in the women’s category,” she said.

Bridges has NOT been banned from cycling. There is no ban of transgender cyclists. Transgender cyclists can compete in the open category.

This is to protect the integrity of women's sport.

Bridges doesn't want to respect this decision and 'train harder' to be competitive in the open category.

And the article is supporting that bias rather than challenging it, in the headline.

Bridges has not been banned form competing against woman - the open category, is just that and any woman can enter if they wish - can they not? Just because they don't want to.....

couldn't have said it better myself. I'm raging about his words about feeling 'unsafe around men'!!! 😡

Man feels unsafe around men.

Sort it out women!

WingingItSince1973 · 20/02/2024 19:12

Oh my days! What a self pitying interview! So you feel unsafe around men and don't want to race in an uncategorised race? Well how do you think us women feel about men in our spaces???

The TRAs have used "literal violence" since they started this with the #nodate.

I know that #nodate is a typo, but it reminded me of how incels claim that women running a mile from their sorry asses is oppression. The tactics used by TRAs to claim that hurt feelings are violence and the tactics used by incels to claim that lack of sex is oppression are the same tactics.

Both movements are manifestations of the age-old belief that too many men share: that women aren't allowed to say no to them.

all mean

We want into women's stuff and you better not stop us.

All seem to translate to ‘looked at me a bit funny’
