Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Trans inclusion = easy, fun, sexy, edgy

Disability inclusion = difficult, mundane, real, needed

I guess some people deserve to be included more than others.

George Orwell anyone?

Says it all really.

Appalling behaviour by MS Society and theres so little protection for volunteers

TeatimeBiscuits · 16/02/2024 11:59

In the Uk an awful lot of MS research is funded by JKR, whose mother had MS. She finds a centre in Edinburgh called the Anne Rowling centre and does a huge amount of good. (Just for ironic background info)

This is such a very good point.

It is. And breaking institutions is a good way of describing it.

A woman with 60 years of volunteering behind her. For fuck's sake.

This.

Helen Joyce says that this ideology breaks institutions and when you look at the excessive levels of bullying and intimidation handed out by its supporters it's hard to argue against that.

This is such a very good point.

Is this another organisation which has lost sight of why it exists and is instead focussing on things some of its staff find more interesting and important?

This.

What an absolutely disgraceful way to treat such a long-standing volunteer. Totally lack of empathy and respect for this lady whose late husband had the condition. I can't imagine how she would be feeling after being treated so shoddily. The MS Charity need to take a long hard look at themselves; they preach about inclusion but then don't apply it.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 16/02/2024 09:56

I’d love to see their policy on ageism!

DaphneMoo · 16/02/2024 09:54

I donated monthly until last year when I stopped due to them going on about identified genders, when a society that deals with a disease that has a biological sex link thinks identity is foremost, I can't trust them. I donated as my mother had Ms from a young age which resulted in her dying young, even back then she was very negative about the MS society and how it was run not for the benefit of people living with MS. I was a bit surprised after more than 20 years of monthly donations they didn't enquire why I stopped.

WickedSerious · 16/02/2024 09:44

I guess they were thinking how kind and inclusive they are.

This.

this fucking ideology turns people into the opposite of kind and inclusive

redboxer321 · 16/02/2024 09:49

I volunteered with the MS Society many moons ago. It was in the UK, I didn't realise this was in the US till now.
I didn't last long. I've never worked with such nasty, toxic, vile people in my life. It was truly awful.
I am not at all suprised that this poor woman has been treated in such an appalling way.

WickedSerious · 16/02/2024 09:49

She probably volunteered for longer than most of those pandering shitwits have been on this planet.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 16/02/2024 09:46

I wonder if it occurred to ANYONE that shit canning a NINETY YEAR old who'd volunteered for sixty years was, as the saying goes, not really good optics, and I'm guessing that the answer is no.

The organization says it plans to "reach out to Fran," but it is unclear whether or not she will be allowed to volunteer for the MS Society again

Reach out? what, and hope she'll come crawling back full of repentance and begging to be allowed to volunteer for a place that treats her like shit?

SamW98 · 16/02/2024 09:45

This is in the US btw

And rather than admit they’ve been fucking ridiculous the MS society spokesperson doubled down on the decision being correct ffs

Wow, what the heck were they thinking?

I guess they were thinking how kind and inclusive they are.

TheSlantedOwl · 16/02/2024 09:43

Fucking hell. The stupidity and unkindness, to do that to a 90 year old woman who was simply asking a question. They should be ashamed - but they won’t be.

ImARubbishNickKnowles · 16/02/2024 09:42

She was just asking what pronouns were and how they worked ... not even given the opportunity to refuse to use them.

And MS is another one of those pesky transphobic diseases that treats male and female bodies differently whichever gender the person identifies as. Perhaps they should have a word with MS itself?

chuffnstuffs · 16/02/2024 09:41

I saw that! That poor woman. It's unbelievable.
