Right wingers, meant as an insult, are to blame for ruining Park Run, not men in frocks.

Complain here:

Voices must be heard, even if this is an opinion piece. This mad ideology only continues whilst we allow it and not speaking up is a CHOICE to allow it to keep happening.

When non-competitive, mass-participation jogging is annexed by the culture warriors, it’s clear there are other agendas at play

What did you say for us not on twitter losers/luddites?

Ooh. 3 months on Twatter and I've had my first retweet!

Because its clearly meant as a slur.

Being a little bit rude about men cheating women out of their rightful places? It's the usual, isn't it? You don't mind what men actually do to women, but women must be polite and flatter men's self image about it.

Well I have a consistency problem with that.
You see many gender ideologues use the acronym TERF as a slur. A recent tribunual found that as a matter of ( legal ) fact. And yet gender believers say it's not a slur because it's simply a description Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists. And being a true description it can't be a slur.
By that same logic man in a frock can't be a slur, because it's just a true description.
So either TERF is a slur, or if it isn't then neither is man in a frock.

Came over here to see if the sisters had seen it . I'm so angry that these idiots get paid to produce untrue nonsense such as this . What a hideous wee privileged man. Is he trying to be the new Talcum? I never read the Guardian but was checking it to see about that One Day thing for ma daughter .

InvisibleDuck · 14/02/2024 15:10

So much utter nonsense in that article but I'm just going to pick on one line.

"And so once you erase trans women from physical sport, you move to sports such as chess and darts"

  1. Competing in the correct sex category is not being 'erased', that's total rubbish.
  2. Do you think there are good reasons for separate women's competitions in chess and darts? If no, it should all be mixed. If yes, males should not compete in the women's category.

Could you explain how 'Men in frocks' is transphobic in your opinion please.

Because its clearly meant as a slur.

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/02/2024 15:09

A bit of clarity helps sometimes though. They are men, not a type of woman.

NewOrder · 14/02/2024 15:05

Maybe its because when you refer to trans people as 'Men in frocks' you sort of undo your argument that its about protecting women's rights and spaces rather than being transphobic.

Anya Palmer has a useful thread with examples of challenges re: women's sports from 2019:

Women have been pointing out your callous disinterest in their right to fairness in sport for 5 years now. Some examples to follow. I'm sure it suits you to believe some right wing think tank is putting us up to it, but no. You deserve to be called out on this. We will not stop.

How deluded do you have to be, to think that if transgender athletes swept the board in women's sports, the reaction of the world would be "how inspiring! You go, girls"?

Yes, misogyny is rife. But people who like sport tend to have quite strong ideas about cheating don't they?

Wait! What would Joey Barton say?

Edited

Agreed. The comments under sports articles in the Telegraph for example are some of the terfiest you'll read. Countless men who completely get the unfairness with some excellent writing about women's sport including their Chief Sports Writer Oliver Brown who covers this issue thoroughly:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/golf/2024/01/23/time-golf-crushed-trans-ideology-hailey-davidson-nxxt-women/roughly:

It is time golf crushed noisy trans ideology with some common sense

Hailey Davidson admits to an inherent physical advantage and then absurdly insists the sport should just turn a blind eye

This is a good point.

maltravers · 14/02/2024 13:50

sometimes it can be difficult to see the wood fur the trees. Here we have one of the Guardian sports writers saying across a number of pieces that women’s sport doesn’t matter. I expect rank misogyny from the pub boor, but the Guardian? It has badly lost its way.

I've written in if anyone wants any ideas for a letter.

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the above article 'Why have rightwingers made even parkrun a battleground for trans people?' by Jonathan Liew, published 14/2/24.

Like the right-wing think tank Jonathan Liew decries, he too could be accused of commandeering women’s rights activism in a reactionary response to the political Right. In the UK (we are not in the USA and imported culture war rhetoric has no place here) women protesting the right to fair sport are across the political spectrum. If the “problem”, as Liew writes, is that “malign actors” capitalise on women’s concerns that “trans rights are an extension of the patriarchy they have long been fighting”, it suggests that women's fears in themselves are legitimate. Perhaps the Left could address these concerns? Many women remain unconvinced by the Labour leader who, whether through ignorance or cowardice, is unable to state basic biology. Maybe the Left should get their own house in order before blaming the Right of rank opportunism.

I believe that Liew ascribes such little value personally to women’s right to fair sport (https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/athletics/caster-semenya-news-gender-martina-navratilova-trans-cas-jonathan-liew-column-a8792861.html), that he is unable to understand this as the sole cause of women’s protest. Instead he concludes supporters are, in fact, motivated by malign intent to “legislate trans people out of existence”. Perceiving a cruel political agenda is a useful deployment against listening to women.

He’s got one thing right. This isn’t just about Parkrun, or sport, but about women’s fundamental rights to equality. It’s apparent where the Left stands.

Yours faithfully.

The prejudice of those who argue against trans, intersex & DSD athletes

This week, DSD athlete Caster Semenya has fought the decision to set a limit on allowable testosterone levels for athletes. And, for some, this is the final stroke of the Doomsday Clock, the opening of the floodgates

Liew is a poor sports writer and a weak man, but at least he has openly admitted he believes what so many TRAs secretly think: women don’t matter.

So often we have to argue against rubbish like ‘but TWAW’; ‘there’s no evidence’; ‘it’ll only be a few, so why worry’; ‘why would it be dangerous?’

Liew has openly stated: “let’s say …they [transwomen] dominate everything they touch … why would that be bad?”

There it is, right out in the open - it does not matter if men dominate women’s sport. Now we know what the real argument is.

Yes, there's something to be said for the ones who'll say the quiet part out loud.

lonelywater · 14/02/2024 13:35

he even manages to shoehorn in the "legislative erasure" of trans people. I cannot put a fag paper between him and Talcum. These people are fucking nutters who should be in homes. I also could not imagine the graun could sink any lower. Wrong again.
