Right wingers, meant as an insult, are to blame for ruining Park Run, not men in frocks.

Voices must be heard, even if this is an opinion piece. This mad ideology only continues whilst we allow it and not speaking up is a CHOICE to allow it to keep happening.

Why have rightwingers made even parkrun a battleground for trans people? | Jonathan Liew

When non-competitive, mass-participation jogging is annexed by the culture warriors, it’s clear there are other agendas at play

Bugger. I didn't put the page number in the complaint. Does it matter? They say it does, but...

Bargainoussushi · 14/02/2024 18:48

I've complained. A long-standing Guardian reader, but this is the first time I've complained, though it has often made me cross.

JanesLittleGirl · 14/02/2024 18:48

Since every single transwoman is, by definition, a biological man, they are a man in a frock. Unless they are wearing leggings and a naice top.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 14/02/2024 18:36

That url! No magic solution my arse. 😡

I agree, but the point of the article is that the only solution is single sex sport.

NewOrder · 14/02/2024 15:05

Maybe its because when you refer to trans people as 'Men in frocks' you sort of undo your argument that its about protecting women's rights and spaces rather than being transphobic.

My immediate reaction is of course it’s rude to say ‘men in frocks’, and then I think of the women who have been forced to refer to their rapists as ‘she’ in court.

I think it’s Stonewall that have insisted that ‘trans’ includes men in frocks.

Who taught you to turn a computer on? I shall have strong words with them, I can promise you that!

I blame the helpful young man who wanted to spread the benefits of IT amongst MNers. Met with appropriate gratitude, of course.

Oh thank GOD you're here! Thank you SO much. I've been using these magic boxes for over 20 years without a CLUE what I'm doing. I remember when the demon known as the internet came into my house. you'd have been about 5 back then. I have been keeping the evil at bay with chicken legs and candles. Thank goodness you've arrived.

Back when my job involved working on these machines all day, I just bashed them with my tits and hoped for the best.

I'm not actually sure how I managed to get on here, tbh. I was dusting it one day and all this stuff appeared.

😂😂😂

What a lucky MNer - no wonder she was grateful!

Now she can feed her family of 5 off that chicken leg for the rest of the week, and the bruises can heal on her poor, sore tits.

Hurrah for that young man!

😂

This article made me so cross today

Generous of them to offer a 300 word right to reply when Fuck Off Johnathon is only 3 words.

With the modern magical wonder of copy and paste, it should be very quick to write that out 100 times, to get your maximum word allowance.

His twitter summary "this thing that hardly anyone cared about before" is spot on as well. Yep, people don't care about grassroots women's sport. Welcome to the party.

I think he means 'this thing that hardly any men cared about before'.Hmm
But he probably doesn't realise there's actually a difference.

Just sent this to the Grauniad:

Ha ha ha! That was wonderfully succinct.

Merrymouse · 14/02/2024 18:25

Maybe Jonathan Liew could do the smallest amount of research possible and walk across the office and ask Sean Ingle (Guardian chief sports reporter) why single sex sport is necessary to enable fair and inclusive access? Perhaps he could just Google Sean Ingle’s articles?

Why has the Guardian published this? It does nothing to ‘detoxify’ debate.

Somebody certainly seems to be exploiting the issue for right wing purposes, and to find that person I suggest Liew looks in the mirror.

Because its clearly meant as a slur.

Can't be having factual descriptions being used can we.

solidarityname · 14/02/2024 17:51

I love the way that TW competing in their sex category is terribly dangerous and could lead to them losing their lives, but women losing sex segregated prisons, refuge accommodation, live in addiction services, homeless accommodation, changing rooms and so on, presents no danger to women at all and it’s just hysteria to say it will. (Despite the fact it actually has).

It’s all about the men for this chap, isn’t it!

Same as when men dressed as women complain about being afraid to share a toilet/changing room with men is valid, while women afraid to share a toilet/ training room with men is bigoted transphobic scaremongering.

WickedSerious · 14/02/2024 18:06

EsmaCannonball · 14/02/2024 15:35

  • I used to be called Bernard but now I want to compete in women's sports.
  • Sorry, mate. 'Sport isn't fair.'

Why is that never the way the unfairness flows?

Won't somebody please think of the men in frocks?

@IsthisthereallifeIsthisjustfantasy dont be sad! Be mad! Your run and your achievements are just as valid. Also awesome on your time!

IsthisthereallifeIsthisjustfantasy · 14/02/2024 17:46

I feel so sad about this. I clocked up some first time finishers for my local race a while back, nothing like a course record or anything like that. But it just feels so sad and hopeless that I wouldn't have done that against a trans runner of equivalent club athlete standard. Male/female difference for similar ability is about 2 minutes at 5k.

murasaki · 14/02/2024 17:38

@MidLangCleg you're probably right
Whither journalistic integrity, if it ever existed.

MidLangCleg · 14/02/2024 17:37

murasaki · 14/02/2024 17:34

I'm sure back in the day he used to be a thoughtful sports writer. What on earth happened?

It can't have been threats re losing his job, as Sean Ingle is still there, thank god. Maybe he's about to go full Nicky Bandini, it's the only explanation I can see given his nonsensical rants as opposed to his articles from a few years ago.

When this happens you dig beneath the surface and it's often that a family member or a close friend is newly identifying as trans. Complete acceptance is demanded <or else>

MidLangCleg · 14/02/2024 17:34

All that love Liew is receiving from women on Valentines Day. Must be warming the wee cockles of his heart.
