So the PM isn't allowed to appear on GB News?

Given that the Reform Party (WHO ARE NOT THE CONSERVATIVES) polled third in one of the recent by elections I don't see what the problem is.

The Conservatives are in direct competition with the Reform Party. There's no guarentee that the Conservatives will get 'the right wing vote' right now.

I do think GB News is more right wing (and sometimes DOES have a questionable level of journalism) but I don't think its the Conservative Party mouth piece. Indeed, they often have people who are more to the right of the Cons on the channel.

I don't really see how its really much different to Channel 4 which has a reputation for being very Left Wing.

If Sunak ONLY appeared on GB News or GB News ONLY had right wing people or representation on it, THAT would be more problematic. But neither is true.

Many people won't appear on GB News because they look down on it, but thats remains their choice and that doesn't help expand political representation of ideas on the channel either.

Look I don't particularly like GB News, and I think there have been a number of problems with the channel.

BUT

This particular section isn't one that I think has the level of problems that people are trying to make out.

Why weren't the BBC investigated over the association of the words 'JKRowling' and 'anti-trans'?

Last year the BBC was forced to apologise twice in a month (Feb) for not challenging guests on the radio for doing this.

This show had a trans campaigner on with the prime minister who was able to ask anything they liked in practice. The PM didn't say anything anti-trans. He stated the importance of gay rights in balance to the question about what was he going to do for the LGBT community, when pushed further he talked about children and women. Its almost as if they didn't like the answer that was given.

It would arguably currently be UNBALANCED in this political climate to FAIL to mention gay rights, women's rights and potential harms to children. Yet the premises of the complaint seems to be all about trans rights and not being able to mention other issues. How is that more politically unbiased????

Go figure.

Oh come on. This is about the fact GB News is basically a Conservative mouthpiece, against UK rules, not the fact they challenged RMW.

I think its completely ridiculous that our elected ministers have taken to going on GBeebies, piers Morgan YouTube etc to try to get round impartiality rules. Shows either they are running scared of having their ideas challenged, or they know they are lying and mainstream channels wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

It's not purity spiralling to alert people to particular agendas. In fact you've just tried to do exactly the same by writing this: " Daily Mail link, KJK, GB News or anyone who isn’t as left wing as Lenin"

As if anyone who doesn't follow the pronouncements if GB news must be "as left wing as lenin" and therefore bad

AdamRyan · 19/02/2024 11:22

Where did anyone say anything about "hateful"? I don't think the organisations are hateful, I think they are pushing particular political agendas and are deliberately non-transparent. They are donating to the government and I'm not sure the policies they push are motivated by what's best for population of the UK.

I'm concerned by how often they turn out to be the source of divisive stories, and why they would want to get involved on that. That's all.

I really don't understand the Tufton St thing.

Addresses can't be hateful. Unless there's a postcode that says "UP R1K"?

Just think of any discussion around Tufton St as the same as any thread about a Daily Mail link, KJK, GB News or anyone who isn’t as left wing as Lenin and it will make sense.

Guilt by association purity spiralling, but the real estate version.

I often link the guardian purely because there is no paywall.

Honestly why has the Tufton Street thing reignited this morning? It's so weird how much its winding people up. Very strange.

popebishop · 19/02/2024 08:01

Doesn't matter that they aren't a right-wing group - because of the office address, they are "linked to" right-wing groups, which is just as bad...

I remember the argument about Tufton St on here and, despite having been on MN for ages, was still amazed at the weak sauce that is pulled up to supposedly prove a group is hateful and wrong.

Remember that photo of the guy in the middle of the Nazi rally who would do the Nazi salute?

Yeah well he was German and in the middle of a Nazi rally, therefore he's associated with the Nazis.

Quite clearly this made him an actual Nazi.

I don't think 'guilt by association' is admissible in a court of law. Can't think why.

EasternStandard · 19/02/2024 08:25

Better stick to The Guardian

Oh hang on..

Saying an organisation is not being transparent about its agenda is not saying "hateful and wrong". Why the hyperbole?

Up until recently, the charity Feeding Britain had an office at 55 Tufton Street, and they're not a right-wing political group. In fact they're pushing back against the Tory policies that are driving people into poverty and hunger.

In the first series he also did an episode about Michfest which was worth a listen. A very DH-esque character in that one.

Did you know about the murder that was weirdly left out of that one?
Really odd- I'd enjoyed the series till then but this really made it clear that stuff was being picked and chosen based on what made a neat little story.

No! I don't! Send me the links!
I sort of knew about michfest but it was interesting to hear about it from people who were there and my GC feminism definitely impacted how I interpretation events. It was pretty relevant alongside the current twitter spats too

Yes I usually like cultural in depth stuff on R4 and would probably stick with it but the voice was too much

Its not actually. It has no conclusions at all. Just a insight into this particular debate and how it played out in florida. I found it interesting. You do have to get used to his voice though.
