A group of Sheffield women objected to a digital billboard campaign this morning trying to normalise gender identity in children. They dropped their objection from the main roundabout in the city.

That’s what we need to do. Retort. On sheets if we have to.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/02/2024 20:13

Is that on the Sheaf Square/Sheffield Parkway junction @Jeanhatchet?

I don't live in the great Steel City any more, but I'm not far away.

Oh well done Sheffield women! xxx

What an ugly monstrosity of a billboard "Just Like Us" have created!
Interesting they've chosen to use a warning sign. What does it say now - warning LGBTQ+ children? Also interesting that they've taken the trouble to change the order and rotated the direction of the stripes so that black is at the top with baby pink and blue.

I should think that surely the Highways Agency will remove this as it is too easily confusable with actual street signage? Why hasn't that happened already?

Also do you know an amazing woman designed all our street signage -Margaret Calvert. I'm sure she said once in an interview that when she designed this sign, the children depicted in the warning triangle were her and her elder sister.

She was an information and graphic designer, at the top of a male-dominated industry, trailblazing a way for women like me - thank you Margaret x

She was expert at sending quick, clear messages and she would have been horrifed to see her work distorted like that.

Good work, women 💪

Yes, well done, ladies. I suppose the fuzz will now have diverted all resources into scouring the CCTV network.

Don’t these two signs sum it all up?

A lobby group with considerable funds (and local govts?) to create a professionally designed campaign in busy areas on expensive billboards behind them on the one side working to medicalise children.

Local grassroots mums with their homemade sign worried about children being confused and learning to hate their bodies. Such a hard battle.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 10/02/2024 17:30

Magnificent.

KCandtheSunlightBand · 10/02/2024 17:27

I’ve always loved Sheffield!

Glenthebattleostrich · 10/02/2024 17:18

Wish we'd driven further into Sheffield today, we thought about a sneaky coffee when o. a Costco run!

Well done, fantastic banner

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/02/2024 17:16

Well done those women. Spelling out what is being sold to children about their bodies being wrong and transitioning being the solution is so important. This should have no place in schools Flowers

afternoonoflife · 10/02/2024 16:17

Apart from the content, it’s a very strange idea. Take a road sign and display it incorrectly, in a place that doesn’t look like it’s outside a school. Is that normally an advertising billboard? So now it’s very confusing. I would understand if you glanced at that and thought ‘shit a school do I need to brake? I’m way over 20mph’. Which is potentially quite dangerous at a fast-moving roundabout.

And why do people need to know Sheffield schools are becoming more LGBT inclusive (whatever that means) on the road? Do we also need to know they’ve introduced vegan lunch options in schools in the area whilst we’re joining the motorway?

Joking aside, well done.

Bowednotbroken · 10/02/2024 16:16

Excellent to see!
