Anyone been following this on twitter? He's been attacked for calling Debbie Hayton she in an interview.
Some horrible homophobic stuff and he has left twitter.

The attacks on Janice Turner, Stella Creasey, Kathleen Stock and now Andrew Doyle, people who've been at the forefront of putting themselves on the line over this issue, for years, is so utterly depressing.

Sure, disagree with their decisions make your point but accept good people, really good people in these cases, may make come to a different decision to you sometimes. Particularly when it's complex, tricky, and still being worked through.

Some GC feminists are really revealing themselves to be as authoritian as the TRAs.

Something tells me the zealots have found the wind is no longer blowing one way and they are now cleansing themselves of their past sin.

Religious nuts will follow any god... and throw the first stone with pleasure.

Yes.
Zealotry has entered the movement.

I was up very late, and reading the thread in question but not with the caps attached earlier or those same comments happening live. He said he's had a lot of comments from gay men alleging homophobia from GC accounts. He said he wouldn't be GC anymore then, a few times. Interspersed with this was:

Anti-feminist commenters getting digs in alleging feminist misandry - Billboard Chris was one.
Many comments objecting to the use of she/her for Hayton. Assertive but not phobic, but coupled with the actual homphobia in other comments, a tipping point may have been reached 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel he's had his buttons pushed - hours of pushback about pronouns for Hayton, heard he was disparaged in a Spaces, was definitely commented on about being block-happy, but not rudely. I feel I read someone wondering whether GC antipathy to surrogacy was what he meant as classable as homophobia. All gone puff in the morning.

GC feminists have always had a problem with men being called "women", "she" and "her" with good reason.

Are we to stop having a problem with it when it's RW media doing it instead of the Guardian?

Nope.
And not the point anyone is making.

Read Andrew's message.

'Slain and shunned'. Wee bit hyperbolic there.

A little bit.
To make the point.

Yes, purity spirals can happen anywhere it seems.

Yes I'm sensing glee and deep satisfaction in some people on social media in the opportunity to apply this sacrosanct GC rule without mercy.
They have a role to police the failures of those not pure to the movement and they are seizing it with great enthusiasm.
If you're not 100% pure in all action you need to be made to pay.

It's the same old.
It was always going to get to this point.

It's feeling to me like there are now a group of women calling themselves GC who have followed the logic of the pronoun debate and are now excited by the absolute moral clarity they believe they've discovered and they're swinging this about righteously attacking anyone who for any reason is not pure on this issue at all times.

It doesn't matter how dedicated you've been, how much previous good will you may have accrued, you can be slain and shunned with the statements of truth which are so satisfying to declare and which allow no grace.

Thanks to @ArabellaScott for posting the link to the 4 hour long Twitter space below, for anyone curious.

The screenshots I saw of tweets directed at Andrew Doyle were vile, and of a completely different order to anything I've witnessed in other GC Twitter rows. It was the kind of abuse you hoped had died out years ago. I hope he's ok.

BigPepperPerson · 06/02/2024 21:28

thanks for articulating what I feel @Datun
I get so frustrated by the "good trans", "real trans" narratives and do worry when people don't see what is blindingly obvious
Men like "Debbie" Hayton worry me more than any unhinged TRA
And I will judge the likes of Stella O'Malley et al for entertaining these bloody men- they're putting my daughter at risk with this ridiculous fawning
I don't know what's happened re Andrew Doyle- obviously homophobic slurs are not ok

Datun · 06/02/2024 21:01

If anything, I would've thought that Andrew Doyle was targeted, precisely because he has done so much work.

I don't agree with him calling Hayton she, but that doesn't undo everything he's done!

Datun · 06/02/2024 20:59

A lot of women believe that DH has manipulated people into calling him she.

It's raging inducing when people don't see it.

That's got fuck all to do with hating men, and calling Andrew Doyle, of all people, homophobic slurs.

I can't imagine a single woman on here ever doing that. Christ, loads are homosexual themselves, loads are married to men, and loads have sons.

It's not a man hating hot bed of homophobia.

pickledandpuzzled · 06/02/2024 20:52

Abuse is wrong whoever does it.

People who abuse others whatever the pretext are sad bullies.

I don’t recognise the style of the women who discuss things round here in those tweets. The tone is different from the voices you hear on FWR. Those abusive people may be GC, that doesn’t mean they are like us, or us.

I would expect people here to defend anyone against homophobic abuse whether they agree with their views or not.

sheddinghairs · 06/02/2024 20:44

The homophobic comment came from anon American acc, waldoisgoing, who rants about all sorts of crap and is abusive to everyone. It's not a GC account.

UK anon account, mishythelesbian, posted about hating men, not gay men specifically.

Another UK anon account, ladysolucky, said men are liars. Again, nothing about homosexuals.

They are small accounts with few followers. They are immature nobodies.

The 'self-confessed homophobe', revfemstbeat, is American. Gingrich says she's a GC activist, but she doesn't seem connected to the UK scene apart from commenting on our news sometimes via Twitter. What has that got to do with us? Just block her.

The chat is something else, people who listened deny it was as AD portrays. It will be interesting to find out. Must have been recorded.

I read something here ten minutes ago. I expressed shock that feminists would do that and you came straight in with that being pathetic? Right. Heard and understood.

MalagaNights · 06/02/2024 20:35

MatchingBedding · 06/02/2024 20:32

I’m not sure why you are calling people here pathetic? Why for being shocked an actual feminist would throw homophobic slurs? For asking for proof that it is actual GC feminists or just nasty vicious trolls on social media? I haven’t spat bile at anyone on Twitter. I’m disgusted by anyone doing it.

As I said for saying it's not our problem and disbelieving woman would do this instead of outrage at the hounding of a man who has put himself on the line over and over for GC women.

Yes I think it's pathetic.

Genderwoo · 06/02/2024 20:34

These have been linked to many times today. Appalling in themselves.

In the early hours, there was a thread about his concern that an X Spaces session had been derogatory, but others say it was not. Today, I've seen it's possibly available to hear again - by a Robbie Travers? And yesterday evening, some had wondered if Doyle uses a mass blocker, and that he had been block-happy in the past.

Debbie Hayton is a man though? A cosmetically altered man but still a man.

For the record I’m not on Twitter nor do I believe in attacking g anyone.

Yes Andrew Doyle knows that but made a decision in this situation to use female pronouns.

There's a debate to be had about this but what are some GC feminists going to do? Hound everyone who ever uses a wrong pronoun until they withdraw from the public discussion?

Stupid idea.

Yes. I don't agree with calling Hayton "she" but it shouldn't lead to someone feeling compelled to delete social media accounts.
